I have this theory. That old man was definitely Gweon woo from the future. The girl said that she believed in Time traveling and those UFO's are people from the future and someday she'll meet one. Maybe from the future they didn't end up together, maybe one reason is that the tree being struck by lightning and the girl didn't know where to meet Gweon woo since it is the only place they could meet after 2 years. So Gweon woo(from future timeline) figured out what went wrong and find a way to fix/replant that tree and the only way to that is by time traveling and he knows the girl believes in it. Earlier in the movie Gweon woo mentioned that he is major in engineering (makes sense cause engineers have the capable of making things such a "Time machine". So the future Gweon woo already created time machine and went back to the past so he could fix the problem(like replanting that tree) and also wait for the girl to comeback to that tree because he really wanted to meet the girl in that place, not to mention that he talks so much the story of that tree(cause he's the future Gweon woo) and when he makes sure that he accomplished the plan he went back to to his own timeline(as we see that UFO flew away). - "Building a bridge of chance for someone you love"
Watch carefully from 4:23-4:28 for the UFO in the background. It comes from the right and looks like a bird, but the sound effects and sudden "takeoff" at 4:28 indicate something else.. Is the old man Kyun-woo from the future?? Something to think about ;-)
