McIntosh Chair Repairs 3 - Rebuilding the legs of chair 2
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- On chair 2, the puppy had completely chewed away the legs where the rails were mortised into them. I turn to a power router to let in new teak, reform the mortises, and assemble the chair.

Cheers, Mitch
A great solution to a very difficult repair Mitch.
Thank you Martin. It was this or make new legs. The owner was pleased, which is always a good result.
The tight fit of the oval chair rails at the end is really impressive. Also the dovetail key is a strong and very clever patch. Well done you!

That turned out great! Thanks for sharing an ingenious idea!
Cheers Richard.
Nicely done.
Thanks. I contemplated doing it all by hand, but I think this way ended up faster and easily as good.
Amazing work
Thank you
Splendid!

Nice. How would you have approached the repair if you did not have an electric router?
Almost certainly the same way. Clamping paring guides either side of the cut outs to ensure a flat base. A router plane setup could also be used, but I think in this situation it would be overly complex. The ends could be sawn at the compound angle with a fine cross cut saw.
