  • A shooting board is a key tool for quick and accurate component preparation. I'll show you how I made my latest for workshop scraps and fixings. Plus a micro adjuster for easy setup.

It's like William Ng's 5-cut method for tablesaw sleds. This is the 4-side method for shooting boards. I'm inspired.

Thanks. Trouble is, once you've dialled them in perfectly, any mistakes are down to the user lol

Hi, I found your channel because I needed some info on the stanley 45
I don't mean to sound disparaging but constructivly this is a video of ' here I made this one earlier '
This platform is all about education or entertainment, you did neither here unlike the reason why I subscribed
You have a different take on construction of a shooting board and failed to make and show it's benefits and your reasons
    A shame really

Hi Duncan. Sorry this one didn't work for you. I take your point about the brevity of construction, although it really is just screwing and bolting a few bits together, which isn't much entertainment or education.
The use of the board, and any benefits to the second fence, are the subject of a follow-on video after I've played with it a bit.
      Thanks for your feedback.

@@mitchwoodwork Sorry but you are really missing the point, you have a desire to put your views in to the public domain, that's wonderful, tons of people will really appreciate your endeavour. If you won't bother giving the viewer and especially beginners who need your help what they need, in reality, what is the point of another blue peter 70's style rendition

thanks Mitch! This is the first time I've seen someone do the 3 or 4 or 5 corner trick with a shooting board on UA-cam!! It is the table saw story - and makes perfect sense here.
My plan is to do the 45degree miter shooting board, and have been pondering a similar trick (with a VERY straight board, make a picture frame?? two long and VERY straight boards and check with a quality square?? the 45deg is very sensitive to the starting material)
my goal is to be able to do small mitered boxes, so I would make the "other" type of mitered shooting board

Cheers. My mitre shooting board is a dream for boxes, although I made it big enough for small cabinets 😆

What’s the second fence for? The suspense is killing me. Thanks for another interesting video. Been a woodworker for 40 years but I always seem to pick up something from your videos.

Like the science thing. Always cool to use geometry to prove skill.

Cheers. I forgot to mention that the diagonals should both measure the same, which is a good check if you don't have a reliable try-square.

I've seen many youtube videos on shooting boards. In addition to Graham Blackburn's simple version, I like this - very clever!

Thank you. I've not seen Graham's but I'll take a look, maybe learn something. I've now watched it, what a great guy and an interesting take on some of the shooting techniques. We do some the same, but some differently, although they all work. Thanks for introducing me to Graham's channel.

I really like that you show the result before the process, enabling me to contextualise the steps of the process. This is a proven and very effective way to teach. More please.
