Welcome to the club. I heard this about a year after it came out & have listened to it 5-6 times a week since. It never loses its impact. I used to think John Farnham's cover of Help (yes, The Beatles' one) with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra was the best cover; with Disturbed's Sound Of Silence a close 2nd. But they've moved down one rung, to make way for this goddess.
@@robby1816 I would add Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt (Nine Inch Nails) to that list. Recorded a year before he died, it brings a tear to my eyes every time I watch the video of it
Kasey is awesome! ❤ We is Australia love her. She has had to struggle to get recognition over the years. Kasey started off in her family band, The Dead Ringer Band, then went solo.
Kasey smashing on a banjo.. Brought up living in a bus, playing in her family band. Her bro is playing guitar and her Dad is playing slide guitar in this.. Grew up in some of the most Arid parts of South Australia, playing country gigs, and catching rabbits for dinner.. A 48 year old Mum with a 3 decade music career, that has lived every word..
Have watched this hundreds of times and it never gets old! Kasey is a genius - the emotion and reverence she puts into Em’s lyrics is phenomenal. Can you tell Kasey is a big Eminem fan? Kasey’s Dad Bill is on slide and just adds to the performance. The arrangement is beyond! Who would have ever thought that an Aussie country/folk icon would cover a massive Eminem hit and make it hers in such a spectacular way? Not to mention the illegal things she does with that banjo! 😂❤ Kasey always gives 110% in her live shows….really wish I had been in Newcastle that night!
Oh great reaction. Kasey has 20 years of hits. A couple to check out would be Ain't No Little Girl or Am I Not Pretty Enough. She is an Aussie hall of famer and much loved and respected.
This nonsense rumour just won’t go away. Eminem doesn’t own the rights to this song and can’t give anyone permission to do anything with it. Further, specific permission is not required to cover a song, compulsory licenses are automatically granted on receipt of a notice of intent. Your comment feels good, but has no basis in reality.
@@caylem00 Eight Mile Style, aka Mark and Jeff Bass. But these are UA-cam comments and you shouldn’t trust me any more than anyone else. I’d encourage you to simply look it up. There have been numerous lawsuits around the song, so the information is readily available.

In the same year Eminem's original Lose Yourself came out, Kasey had her break through hit "Not Pretty Enough" a biographical song about her struggles to break through in the music scene. It's well worth a listen.
8 times, I would have to say I have watched this at least 80 times, I might be biased, but what a performance, greatest cover of all time. ❤❤❤❤❤ love it 😊
Banjo Thrash is a new genre of alt-country 😂 - next reaction to Kasey should be ‘Ain’t No Little Girl’ I like the Paste Studio version, but there are other great ones out there including the ‘official’ video.
The secret of this is she understands what he's saying and her changes in tempo are in service of that. It starts in fragility and fear, then struggle and sorrow and then finally kicks up into searing anger and determination. It was always there in the lyrics but rap doesn't lend itself to more subtle displays of emotion due to the need for a certain tempo and cadence. Every choice she's making here is carefully considered to bring the emotion in the lyrics out, it looks like she's just letting go and to extent she is but it's the letting go of someone who understands exactly when and how to bring emotions out in a song. I am so glad she did this and if I was Eminem I would be proud that someone understood what he was actually saying in that song and was able to bring those emotions to the fore. Try "Not Pretty enough" or "The Captain" from her"
Fun fact: There was no "official" video recording of this performance. After the concert, Kasey asked audience members to send in any footage they had recorded on their phones, and this video was put together from those! Whoever did the editing did a fantastic job!
Rap and Hip Hop aren't as big here as the US, we are more Pop, Rock and Country. So Em performed this for his audience. Kasey is performing this for her audience. Taylor Swift also does a very nice cover for her audience. But while Eminem made this song iconic, it took Kasey Chambers to make it epic. This is the version I have drawn inspiration from. G'day from Australia.
With more than 25 years in the business she has a deep catalogue of gold to check out. She leaves it all out there on stage every time so your next song should be - 'Ain't No Little Girl' - live at the Bluegrass Underground. Enjoy While your looking at some Aussie Live music gold standard - you need to checkout early Midnight Oil - Their live concert from 1985 'Oils on Water' is amazing - any song is good but maybe start with 'Power and the Passion' or 'Stand in Line' - trust me you won't be disappointed.

Awesome reaction my friend. I always felt that Eminem version was like a 'punch in the face' so much rage. Whereas Kasey retells his song and we hear the heartbreaking story of his early life...then she let's herself express the same feelings of her struggle with being ignored by record companies etc and finally she 'looses herself' but she did Eminem's song justice. And what about her band...wow! The guy with the cowboy hat on is her dad and he was playing a 'slide guitar' Would love to hear more Kasey Chambers please. Hi from Australia

Kasey's musical / life / career journey in 3 simple, chronological steps:
1) The Captain;
