It's a testament to Eminem's powerful lyrics and Kacey's musicality and performance skills... She stripped the original bare and remade it... It's not often that we get to hear a masterpiece for the first time, twice...
The first half is all about his feelings of doubt and fear ............ then the anger and determination kicks in in the 2nd half. A brilliant version. She worked on this when she couldn't tour through Co-vid - she perfected it with her Father who is playing the slide guitar. She really makes you feel lyrics. Oh, and before this performance I've never seen anyone shred a banjo!!
@@Rosebud4u1 it wasn't her brother Nash on guitar and backing vocals. It was Brandon Dodd. Although it was her father absolutely killing that Steele lap slide!
Crazy! They said this was the first time she performed this. They recorded the sound but had no video so she asked fans to send their phone videos in. She cobbled it together and I love the quirky video which adds to the esthetic. Genius covers genius.
It wasn't the 1st time she performed it - this was the 17th show of her Behind the Barricades tour & it was the final encore song every night. It was 1st performed in March 2022 at the Wildflower Festival in the Yarra Valley (Victoria) - the tour ran May through June.....so THIS one is the 18th live performance.
The reason it doesn't have more views is because I think too many people won't get outside their own biases. They hear that banjo at the beginning and don't sit still for her HEART pouring out on that stage.
That’s a lot of views for a local artist who isn’t pop for the 26m of us here in Aus. Whilst Kasey is a a story teller and legend of the folk festival and small theatre tours, she doesn’t get airplay on radio and she has 29K subscribers. She’s also 48 in a local industry only interested in youth. She asked people at that concert for footage from their phones to put this MV together after the audio blew up online. Her originals are as good!
I'll admit, I had to push thru my initial reaction to hearing this on a banjo but then my curiosity got the very best of me and this is probably my favorite cover of all time and made me check out the rest of her catalog.
Kasey is a superstar with 25 years of gems behind her - she leaves it all out on stage. And you're right this should be huge - keep getting the word out.
Brilliant! Kasey didn't just 'SING' this Kasey 'LIVED' it. Slowly telling the story...then showing the emotion of the song....then ANGER! Wow I had my hand on my heart and tears in my eyes... I believe Eminem would love this as his lyrics are delivered with such passion. thanks for this reaction, saying hi from Australia
Kasey has made it her own. 2"lose yourselves" now. This is Kasey's version showing Eminem's lyricism and it IS fire. Thanks mate for your reaction!!🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Great reaction! It’s an extra bonus when someone knows the original back to front and sees exactly how much she deconstructed and rearranged the track. I appreciated your thoughtful remarks and insightful comments. Well done 👏 😊
Love u kasey.. a true aussie battler.. also got to meet her once yrs ago couldn’t have met a nicer and down to earth person.. she asked so many questions about me and when I told her I’m a nurse who works with the mentally unwell she was in aww of me!! made my day that someone like her was so interested in me..when I said that to her.. I will always remember her saying “I was born with this voice but it takes a real hero to study with the goal of helping others” I love Eminem too, Would love to know his reaction to kasey singing it x
Great reaction and final Indepth analysis from you - much appreciated. I don't know why her channel hasn't got the amount of likes she and her band deserve from this either. She's so brave to do this - but the respect she showed, and understanding. Nashville meets Detroit.
Maybe Eminem will make an angry industry rant rap out of "Am I not Pretty Enough" in return? Oddly enough these two are contemporaries with Lose Yourself out in 2002 & the song by Kasey I just mentioned achieving some success on the US (country?) charts in 2001. Kasey has said in the media she's always been a fan of Eminem, too. And I'm sure she can relate to the struggles.
EM was so impressed with the cover he allowed KC to upload it to Spotify. BTW, AU, is Australia. She was 46 when this was recorded. Her dad is on the slide guitar.
Maybe when people see Eminem cover and a woman with a banjo, they don't expect a good cover. Also it is hard to imagine anybody doing it justice since nobody successfully made a cover of his song, ever before and people go over this one. But they are robbed of an amazing opportunity to re-live this impactful song like the first time for the second time in life! It is crazy how she kept the big emotion and power of lyrics trough completely different melody.
Loved it. Absolutely brilliant. Your reaction comments were spot on. Eminem loved it and gave her the rights to post it on Spotify. It made me appreciate the genius of Eminem's lyrics even more.
No he didn't - he can't as he doesn't own the copyright to it. The Bass brothers do through their Eight Mile Style publishing company - Eminem has no input whatsoever.
Your reaction is FIRE. I LOVE THIS. I thought I naw this song until I heard this. She took it apart_ turned it inside out_ filled it with an visceral hunger/ ache. Frisson head to toe.
Kasey is a great Aussie country singer - her first break out song was ironically written about her not being taken seriously when trying to get a break in the industry - Great song 'Am I Not Pretty enough' - the official version in this one is probably the best.
Actually, it wasn't about the industry not taking her seriously - it was about main stream radio not giving her music airtime. By the time she released Not Pretty Enough (January 2002) the industry was taking her seriously - ARIA AWARDS - 1999 The Captain won Best Country Album. Fantastic reaction and greetings from Australia. Kasey is an Australian musical icon and she totally owned it. I really hope Eminem gets to listen to her interpretation of his song one day. 🇦🇺 🇦🇺 🇦🇺

Eminem himself SHOULD see this! Kasey rips it up makes it her own and makes me not be able to stop listening to it! Never heard of her before yet from what i have learned she had hard time making it because radio stations wouldnt play her stuff because she wasnt pretty enough for the industry. But from what we all see here she is amazing. Talent is out the roof with this. I admit country music isnt for me and maybe thats half the reason i not heard of her but this is phenomenal. She loves Eminem and wanted to make her own version of it while in covid. And from what i have learned this song says everything about what she went through trying to make it, the words of this rap song speak to her and thats why she shows so much emotion singing it. Well done Kasey!!!
Well you go and win brother. Grow this Chanel, and you Aussies out there get behind this man wanting to win at life. Chase your dreams mate and don't believe in never. If you want some more inspiration, watch Mason Cox Don't believe in never, he's an American playing in the Australian football league. It'd be great if you react to it as well. All the best mate. I think this doesn’t have more views because people are stupid like myself 😂 I have been seeing this on reactor’s thumbnails for at least 2 months and I didn’t check it out until today. I am a huge Em fan and thought it would suck. This blew me away. 🔥🔥🔥
When Eminem heard Kasey Chambers’ poignant take on “Lose Yourself,” his positive reaction mirrored more than simple approval. By granting Chambers the nod to feature her cover on Spotify, Eminem displayed a genuine respect for her craftsmanship-a sentiment many of Eminem fans of Kasey Chambers undoubtedly share.
She loved this song and always wanted to do it but, never had time to work on it. During lock down she did. Her first performance after lockdown she did this. Brought to mind all the suffering we all saw and experienced during that time. She felt this to her soul. So did we. I have so much respect for somebody who goes outside of their own usual type of music and reaches out to listen from EVERY type of music. Just think if she was close minded and just stuck to the same music all the time? Then we would have missed THIS. Eminem has heard this and given her permission to put it on Spotify.
This was not her 1st performance after lockdown. The song had it's debut in March 2022 at the Wildflower Festival Yarra Valley (Victoria) - then she had the 17 show Behind the Barricades tour running May through June -THIS performance was the 17th & final show of the tour. There is no conformable evidence on the internet that Eminem has seen/heard this & even if he had - he doesn't own the copyright to Lose Yourself (or most of his early music) so CAN'T give his permission for it to be monetized on Spotify
Mate, that was one of my favourite reactions. Do yourself a favour and dive deep into Australian music, I would love to see so many more of your intelligent, well spoken reactions to amazing Aussie music.
The cadence is pretty much the same, albeit slowed down. Kasey has kept, and upped, Em’s emotional lyricism. ❤ Kasey blew this out of the water. It’s HER song now! ❤
It does show Eminem’s talent as a writer. Her beginning half- reminds me of something you could hear with some isolated people of Irish decent living off grid in Appalachia
What I personally as both an Eminem and Kasey fan am disappointed about... is there has been NO RESPONSE from Eminem about this frankly, fucking amazing version of his song..... I mean John Lennon came out in admiration of John Farnhams (another Aussie artist) version of The Beatles song 'Help', literally months before he he was murdered.... what Eminem is 'too precious' 'too jealous'? Fuck that.....
I’ve thought about this and all I can think is that Eminem hasn’t seen it - cause my goodness…..if I created something amazing and someone honoured it like this, I’d be impressed.
The John Lennon thing is extremely apocryphal. What he has said is on record as saying is that he intended it as a slower ballad type song, but the producers wanted something upbeat and peppy.
It's a testament to Eminem's powerful lyrics and Kacey's musicality and performance skills... She stripped the original bare and remade it... It's not often that we get to hear a masterpiece for the first time, twice...
