Hey, @@GateWorldDotNet , here's another "upside-down tattoo" for your Gate Goof series: the mark of Apophis on the temple wall at 5:13 . Compare it with the tattoos on Bra'tac and Teal'c just a few seconds later.
@@NemoNoone-p3p yes, they’re to simplistic for my taste as well) Even though I enjoyed Star Wars when I was a little kid, can’t watch a single movie or series of the franchise now. And Star Trek… I don’t know, never given the series a try. Should I? I’m afraid it didn’t age well.
@@NemoNoone-p3p I love Star Trek. But Stargate is better. I don't care for Star Wars with the exception of some of the TV shows. EDIT: OH and Doctor Who is great too!
I have always loved the slow yet steady build over the series. Sure, some episodes are throwaways with groups we never see again. But even here in Season 1 we're laying the foundations for the Asgard. Learning fundamentals of gate physics that save the entire planet (and galaxy) later when used the jump gates intentionally. Confirm the multiple realities theory that comes into play in so many later episodes. And beginning to solidify the characters we would cherish so much for so many years to come. Yes, a few of the lore beats in S1 get retconned away later on. Espeically the infamous zat third shot. But we got some absolute gold out of the show right from the beginning when it came to the mythology the writers were setting up. Not quite 24k yet, but it was certainly shiny and appealing. Once we get deep into the space-faring seasons of the show, you can look at the ships and see the path that the SGC took through the cosmos to bring us each of the parts of those craft. It was very rare for something to just Deus Ex Machina appear out of nowhere without some foundation coming before hand. And often we had previous accidents, like Solitudes, provide intentional solutions to later potential disasters. I will never get tired of rewatching Stargate. A true timeless classic.
Thank you, Margery! I want to give old-timers (like myself) an easy way back in to Stargate, and also provide a resource for newcomers who might want to jump on board a new show without necessarily feeling like they must watch all 354 episodes from the previous shows.
Man when we first see the Asgard and there tech I remember being so hyped. Definitely my favorite episodes have to do with the Asgard. Also as someone who hasn’t rewatched stargate in probably a decade this was a nice recap. Brought back a lot of memories
I like the way the early seasons of SG1 continued the premise of the movie (Ancient Egyptians taken to another world) with a multitude of planets based on historic Earth cultures (Shavadai are Mongols, Land of Light is Minoan, Argosians are Greek, Cimmerians are Norse). Later seasons largely drop this concept as we instead get lots of medieval style villages and the occasional industrial society that don't have direct links to a real world culture which makes the later seasons feel different in style to the early episodes. I also enjoy how 90s these early episodes are as CG was clearly still expensive so we get very few spaceships and alien species, and the budget is seemingly lower so we get lots of British Columbia forest planets 😅. (I do love later SG1 too but I particularly like the style and charm of these early episodes when the show was finding its feet)
This is good; getting a recap without having to rewatch all of the episodes again. Thanks for doing this! 😃 I look forward to subsequent season recaps.
Stopping in here as a reminder as I prep to see Teal’c’s VA at a con this weekend. This was the show my dad and I watched as I was growing up, and I’m going to get Teal’c’s autograph for his birthday.
Stargate is by far the best sci-fi show ever created. All of the characters are so well written especially the growth of Sam Carter's character. As well as the rest of female characters in the show like Dr Weir and Dr Frasier.
Yeah, that sounds about right. I love the early season Teal'c jokes relating to his knowledge of earth, and his expressions of 'wtf are you asking me' haha. 'What happens when you dial your own phone number... wrong person to ask...' Teal'c: O_______o;
I've watched sg1 from start to finish about five or six times over and in my opinion the series really didn't take off properly until they started travelling in space.
As a teen I didn't originally think Stargate would be good. Boy was I wrong!! This is my favourite show or all time! Admittedly there are a lot of sg1 episodes that weren't good so there could have been more better episodes with the asgard or goauld I think.
I'm hoping this might convince a friend to give Stargate another try. We tried watching it together, and he couldn't make it to the season 1 midpoint together. lol
Yep, they speak English for 'Reasons' XD I know the SGA books try to give a reason being the gate translates the common spoken language, which is why most planets tend to share the same tongue over the centuries of interaction. Stop a bit weak since the Gou'ald and Jaffa still have their own language.
They should make a spinoff of early ancients exploring the universe for the first time sorta like sg1 but significantly more advanced and can explore meeting the ancient races and being new old and forgotten races into the picture or exploring their cannon.
4:02 Actually they were tying to enter coordinates of Abydos (from the cartouche), and the first two symbols at least are the correct one (Taurus - Serpens Caput), but at least one of the symbols must have been incorrect. The main theory is that they made a confusion between Orion and Canis Minor.
I sometimes forget how much happens in season 1 that fuels story lines in subsequent seasons. Thanks so much for this fun recap.
I'm always impressed how many seemingly one off episodes have elements woven back in later on, even in season one.
Thank you for watching! This was a fun exercise and I'm excited to do Season 2 (which is when I personally really fell in love with the show).

I simply say Star Gate and walk away. :)
