The dress is actually blue and black. But because of the lightning in this picture and because every human eye is focusing another reference point on the picture, every human sees the dress in different colours.
Floris R It in fact was not. Go zoom in on those pixels again. The black was obviously overexposed and I would have guessed it to be grey. Gold looks different anyway. However the blue part was still blue albeit lighter.
This is why standardization is good. If the industry could just agree on the IEEE H.1 or ISO Hv 90 standard we wouldn't have all these variances in rods and cones. But no, everyone has to compile their DNA in their own custom environment so the market is literally flooded with near infinite variation.
The funny thing about the cone cell animation is that if the 'blue' cone absorbs blue light, it would be colored the opposite of blue and so on for the others.
Okay, I need to say this. Why is the color composition always different on Techquickie vs LTT. Linus and Lukes skin color always looks off in Techquickie, almost blotchy and yellowish. I notice it every time I watch this channel, its kind of offputing tbh. I think I remember you saying y'all use a different camera for TQ, is that the culprit? I assume thats also the reason Techquickie is in 1080(boo).
I don't give a fuck. They're male, so their looks are unimportant. Well, mostly unimportant. I hope the tall thin one never goes smooth-shaven again. I almost lost SAN because of that.
Almost everybody I have asked and know can not tell the color of my shoes, they all think they are brown but they are clearly a orange and black mesh. I have disputed different color shades on many things but they just can't see the difference in shades, I find it crazy that so many people are not able to pick up on the smallest changes in tint/shade and that I can see it. It's nice to be able to spot tiny changes in shades and patterns but surprising that other people are not able to notice it even when trying.
these videos keep getting better, especially when they build off previous videos. keep up the good work linus (and team) VIDEO IDEA: test ergonomics of mouse/sizes/keyboards/tkl. include some test subjects and measurements of hand size/other variables.
Hey Linus, I know this video is already old by UA-cam standards, but how would one find the "best" color-scheme for a monitor. Is it just trial and error with contrast, sharpness, etc. or is there a way to find...mmm...let's call them popular set-ups.
Une patate sur UA-cam No, that's a completely different issue. That's how your right eye only sees one red picture and your left eye only sees one cyan picture, so that a 3-color monitor can send a different colorless picture to each eye and simulate 3D.
about a year ago one of my teachers shut me down in front of whole class saiyng that rgb core cells was wrong and that ryb was right core cell collor preception.
crap, now i gotta get a bunch of digital to analog converters for my quadruple crt monitor setup. jimmy, how's that shelf going? make sure it's sturdy enough to hold up a crt monitor. i don't want my crt monitors come crashing down on each other.
Know whats funny? Last episode on the topic they gave a contrast measuring tool, with the 4 circles varying in darkness. Between my older, 1080p monitor and my newer G-Sync monitor, there really is a contrast difference, though both have TN panels. Again - the two pinks, another contrast tool. The difference in subtle on my older monitor - and fairly well visible on the Gsync monitor... Cool :) BenQ GL2450 vs Asus ROG PG278Q, if anyone wants to know.
Was it on purpose that you looked a bit green in this video? Even put the window on my newest screen to make sure LOL. Usually use my screen from 2010 for videos but had to put it on my new from 2016 screen to see if the colors were right XD
I feel like every Techquickie video has a different colour correction. You film indoors with controlled lighting, what's wrong? :D And I also like that Vsauce's video "Is Your Red The Same as My Red?" shows up next to this one. When I first watched that it surprised me that I never thought of the possibility that people see colour differently.
Hey Linus great video! i am becoming a fan of your channel and subscribed recently because i really appreciate the quality of your videos and information! i am currently shopping for a monitor and i am finding it a nightmare to dig through all the possible differences monitors can have on picture quality. when you get a chance to reply i was wondering what monitor would you recommend for me that meet my needs? i am a casual gamer with a GTX 1070 my needs from most important to least important. 1. IPS 100% sRGB (for realistic picture color/graphics quality) 2. Good Contrast 3. 4k 4. Vesa mountable 5. no lag (decent ms response and input lag?) 6. 120Hz 7. utility (extra ports) 8. Budget low $400 High $1000 Thanks!!!!! :DDDD
I just had to google "spray cheese" to understand what you're actually talking about. The results were... disturbing. Muricans: What the CAPITAL F is wrong with you?!
Can you please use the same setup for Techquickie as LTT? LTT videos always look on point, yet for some reason you guys look like Murdoc from the Gorillaz on Techquickie.
I would like to see linus or luke do a video on Teraflops as they relate to GPUs and specifically why exactly the AMD R9 480 which is stated as having 5.5 Teraflops but is still significantly slower then the Gtx1060 with only 4.4 Teraflops.
I think the part about CS players saying the colors are dull is because CS actually has one of the dullest color palettes and they just turn up the colors in hopes of seeing enemies better. (pro-tip, it just makes things worse)
Random question to anyone. What happens to your old iPhone data, settings etc when you bought a new iPhone and transferred to your new phone via iTunes or iCloud?
The data will stay on the old iPhone as well, you can keep them synced together if you wish by going into iCloud settings when you get the new phone set up.
+Paul Sotenko no it will only will sync added stuff you can wipe the old phone clean. If you just want to use it as an extra device or side device I would suggest that you use iTunes to restore it and then sign in to your iTunes account so you have a fresh version of IOS and a lot more space on your old phone.
You perceive colour differently on a monitor, but that would also be the case in real life. So if to someone colours look "off" on a calibrated IPS monitor, he's just used to the wrong thing.
Since 1931 I'm almost sure the way people see colors changed. Most of the screens we see several hours a day are more on the colder side. Doesn't that impact our color comprehension in the long run?
But doesn't this kind of get eliminated by the fact that we are taught what colors are what? I mean aside from color blindness I can't see how this really matters. I mean if you teach a kid that green is really yellow then he will think that that color is yellow even though we know it as green.
***** What does their preference have to do with anything? You prefer what you prefer, some prefer more dark and grainy, some prefer more bright and colorful, seeing slightly different colors wouldn't affect that.
Psychologically it does. Much like language directly affects certain types of brain functions. Romantic languages really do swoon women more than, japanese for instance. We consciously think in language, which means language/words directly limit or allow for certain types of thoughts. Hypothetically if I were to remove just a few words that people commonly use from existence you'd be incapable of complex thought pertaining to Tyranny, Freedom, or other complex Ideas. That's how dangerous language manipulation can actually be! You'd be left with raw emotion. The same emotion that makes you feel certain ways about certain colors regardless of having been educated about them or not.
***** You clearly didn't read my comment properly, what I said is that the colors we see are such because we are taught that they are. I don't feel like arguing over this topic as I really couldn't give a fuck so goodbye and have a nice day.
We're talking more about subtle differences in color. Like, if you watch a hockey game, maybe to somebody the ice and players look too blue while to others they look too yellow. You're talking about vastly different colors, and human descriptions of perception.

But is the dress gold and white or blue and black?
P
The dress is actually blue and black. But because of the lightning in this picture and because every human eye is focusing another reference point on the picture, every human sees the dress in different colours.
There was no gold and white so people who saw that were just wrong because their brain fucked up.
The picture of the dress was brown-ish and light-blue, based on pixel RGB values. The dress was black and blue in real life.
Floris R It in fact was not. Go zoom in on those pixels again. The black was obviously overexposed and I would have guessed it to be grey. Gold looks different anyway.
However the blue part was still blue albeit lighter.

Better than Vsauce really... It hasn't been good lately.
+Jonas h xd r/iamverysmart
The main Vsauce channel is good, just does not post videos that often :(
+MiChAeLo KGB I only watch Vsauce Michele because of his good quality videos and that's why he takes so long to upload.
that shot at 2:02 with rgb close up made my vision go out of focus. trippy
3:14 that was the slickest "check out these other videos" I've ever seen

actually is in front of a green screen
Without knowing anything about their workflow it is likely either a) the camera, as you mentioned or b) a different lighting setup for greenscreening.

Learned alot in this episode, loved it!
So what color is John Cena then, if you can't see him?
John Cena is the color pain.
Oh so you can't see him because he is faster than pain, now it makes sense.
hahahaha
infinite
He is the wavelengths past the visible spectrum, he's probably infrared cause, violet people? Wow
I'm pretty sure my eyes both see colors differently. My left eye sees things in a slightly warmer tone than my right.
Same. That's probably why some 3D glasses are red and blue I think
Une patate sur UA-cam No, that's a completely different issue. That's how your right eye only sees one red picture and your left eye only sees one cyan picture, so that a 3-color monitor can send a different colorless picture to each eye and simulate 3D.
i used to have an crt and for a loooong time it was main movie screen, but one day it broke down. and now i cry myself to sleep every night
about a year ago one of my teachers shut me down in front of whole class saiyng that rgb core cells was wrong and that ryb was right core cell collor preception.
if only you made this video last year. would have made my physics test way easier
Would this also leading to a singular person seeing slightly different shades between their own individual eyes? That's how it kind of is for me.
crap, now i gotta get a bunch of digital to analog converters for my quadruple crt monitor setup.

Spray cheese is not real cheese. Yes, i'm looking at you America
We agree. Some of us do at least. We also wonder why our cheddar is yellow.
+Braeden Hamson I like yellow sharp cheddar on sandwiches
I just had to google "spray cheese" to understand what you're actually talking about. The results were...

Muricans: What the CAPITAL F is wrong with you?!
We know. That's why we love it so much. Mmmm... Yellow dye #6... Mmmm... Potassium Sorbate to maintain freshness...
I don't like the concept of spray cheese, it smells bad and taste worse, I very much agree Americans have a lot of things wrong with them.

The only thing different I noticed with my eyes are everything is brighter when I look with my left eye than my right eye.
Can you explain Data Recovery?
oh man the picture at 2:06 relly hurts my eyes lol.

Awesome! Thank you for this!
can you guys do a psu explanation video?
each one of my eyes sees colors dfferetly and I'm colorblind as well as brightness changes a lot with my eyes brain. is weird .
Some people even have difference between their own eyes. So you will see warmer or cooler colors in one eye compared to the other.
What?! No "black and gold dress" reference?
what is gpp slot in motheroard
Thank you for the great explaining i can finally tell my buddies why my monitor looks so awful to them but perfect for me :)

I have always wondered why I see colors differently. I just accept things are a color but that's not what I see.
But, can you overclocked them?
You perceive colour differently on a monitor, but that would also be the case in real life.
So if to someone colours look "off" on a calibrated IPS monitor, he's just used to the wrong thing.
Is my red blue for you, or my green your green too?
Could it be true we see differing hues?
Fast sync vs gsync on a 60hz panel with a Gtx 1080 and 60-80fps can someone explain what will I gain moving to gsync?
no point of buying high end display then unless ur using it for professional reasons since we each have different color depths in our eyes.
If cone cells are what allow us to see color is there a way we could put them into dog eyes so that they can see color?
Dogs actually can see colour, but instead of reds, greens and blues, they see blues and yellows
Linuuuuus, who is at 0:34??? I have the same eyes :o !!!
"The color energy", huu where came that from?
From what I see mulberry magenta and passion pink do NOT look the same :D What do others think?
yeah they're different
Those team mystic spikes on the graph -.-
Was it just my eyes what felt weird at 2:00 ??
Techquickie is turning into ReviewTechUSA.
I have an Asus PA249Q and some shitty HP monitors side by side and colour difference is extremely noticeable no matter what I do lol.
@ 3:34 Did anyone else notice that he only had 2 different shades of blue? The other colors were the same? Nah... Just me?

Since 1931 I'm almost sure the way people see colors changed. Most of the screens we see several hours a day are more on the colder side. Doesn't that impact our color comprehension in the long run?
well my left eye see more of a yellowish color filter and my right see more of a white filter why is it so ?
Ask VSauce
He will never answer your question.
no you should upgrade to a 1080 at least. the current one clearly cant handle the colours
Thank you.
Did they purposely make the color look off in this video. because Linus looks greener and low saturated.

One of the many reasons I still use a CRT.
Wait a second, this isn't vsauce
Techquickie... We don't need Google anymore... Linus explains everything
I'm starting to notice that you guys need brighter lighting, you got a sickly green tone to u.
Watching this with livedisplay/twilight makes this quite umm... interesting
they do?
