      I think you should have figured that out before you moved there. But California sucks too, because it's so expensive and the traffic is horrible. Maybe if you had moved to Columbus, your feelings would be different. I live in NYC, will retire in a couple of years. If I was young and starting out I'd head for Columbus or Pittsburgh, both being aff6and cosmopolitan. I live I. California for 15 years, SF Bay area, really grew to dislike it by the time I left. The last 23 years in NYC have been much more enjoyable, at least until covid hit. If you ate positioned to move again, do your research. I'm sure there is a happy place out there for you. Some rust belt locations are better than others. Dayton was a strange choice.

    Just bought a house here in Dayton and didn't know what I'm getting myself into. I have a lot of positive thoughts and hopes for the city and it has a lot of potential to be great place (not that it ever wasn't). I'm a transplant from California and I moved here due to the cost of housing (not living - as the house I bought in Dayton would cost about half a million in California and that's what's amazing). I'm looking forward to what this city will have for me to enjoy and hopefully the city planners will help turn it around some more.

      Hi Stevenimich Archangel! Thanks for the view and comment! It is astounding how much less expensive other states are compared to California. I know this is coming from relators who have an interest in their own profit, but this incredibly disappointing in how it glazes over the very real issues Dayton has. School funding, public transit, exurb flight, crime (but more, the systemic issues that cause it), segregation. I believe the words "This is bad comedy" are most relevant. And if you are getting hit by quotes from a 1986 animated movie about robots, maybe you should reconsider your works.
    Also as a Chaminade Julienne graduate of '98, the people scared of downtown calling it not very nice, are actually part of Dayton's root cause problem. I knew this then and I know this now as a resident of Columbus' Short North. We all know what Being Scared Of That means. I'm saying canines can hear it, to be crystal clear.

      You have to really dig around to find what may interest you in this Dayton area. It depends what you like. If Dayton don't have it, nearby Cincinnati or Columbus in Ohio....each about 1 hour away may have it. But yes, the Oregon District is nice and the trails are great too! Hope you find something here you like. I been thru St Louis and seen their sights in the mid 1990s including the Arch. But that place has very bad crime....maybe worse than Dayton....but hope you enjoy living here in the Dayton area. There are night clubs here, but with Covid-19, I really don't know if nightclubs are even open around here now.

      I've lived there all my life and I'm about to get a bike, once you're on the freedom of two wheels there's actually a lot more places you'll be able to go and explore in Dayton, especially the old industrial sector's. But like I said before, speaking on crime...Don't come here unless you plan on staying frosty and strapped, you do that and the chances of you having a problem are very minimal.

    Dayton has very high crime rate. I have lived in Dayton years ago and will never move there again. Lots of other videos clearly show Dayton's crime rate and drug problems extremely horrendously high. Dayton schools are not the best either. Not much to do living in Dayton and yes....they are reviving parts of the downtown area near the Oregon District off of 5th Street, but more is needed and I know it's a slow process on that part too. They do have excellent bike pathways too. I really like those fountains on the Great Miami River area too.

    • @gsallison1
      @gsallison1 3 роки тому +5

      I use to work for the City of Dayton Water Dept and those fountains were a big problem until they started running non river water thru the outlets. Dayton tries very hard to keep the City going, but when you lose 50% of your population in 20 years, you also lose revenue on sales tax and tax on wages from those lost jobs.

But also focusing on the good versus the bad is a fine thing to say but as a realtor you know there’s a line between glancing over a few minor details that paint would fix to make a sale and purposefully obscuring major damage and flaws just to flip a lemon. The real problem with this video - the part that makes people think this guy’s not from here at all - is that his cons list reads like a joke random sampling of stuff he saw in pictures, his pros list are all examples of things that are actually wrong here, and he doesn’t mention a single one of the actually nice things about living here.

    What he doesn't tell you is that he doesn't cross the river to the west side, or that going to deep into the East is dangerous or that the north you can buy whatever you want and the south is a reck.. he doesn't tell you that walking downtown at night (or anywhere) is asking for trouble. And every corner has homeless asking for money. Also don't trust your neighbors and don't stick around at any gas station for too long
