My wife has a 310GS. She’s 5’2”. I lowered hers with a Wilbers suspension unit and a progressive front fork spring. I didn’t go down the lowering link for the same reason that you found. She had the same problem as you with the stand. I took the stand off, cut it down by 60mm and welded a 60mm extension to the kickstand peg, powder coated it and now she can flick it up.
I went with the HyperPro Front and Rear Performance Suspension Lowering Kit. It lowered the bike about 55mm (2”) and really made the difference for me since it allows me to practically flat-foot the bike. I had my local BMW shop do the installation. I’m 5’4” and really struggled with the bike as I live in the mountains. Before the lowering kit, I would get exhausted trying to maneuver my body so I wouldn’t drop the bike at intersections or unplanned stops. It was pricey, but now I feel like the bike is built for me.
Thanks for watching, yes we can spend a lot of money on these quite quickly but it's a good enough all round bike to make it worthwhile. Ride safe mate.
Yeh we did about 13-15mm so similar, MIGHT go another two or three mill yet but seeing how we go. Getting some more off road tyres first to see where we're at.
I tried one of those rear suspension adaptors on Kawasaki ER6F which it did but the original unit scraped on the bodywork. Wilbers made a replacement unit in 'standard' length plus two others 5mm and 10mm shorter, I opted for the 5mm one and it worked great. I raised the forks slightly through the yokes. Happy rider.
Nice little demo of adjusting a bike to suit the rider, people shouldn't be afraid to alter settings to make it easier for themselves. I've just adjusted the gear link on the Gixxer by 5mm height and changes are smooth, not clunky anymore. One small point- the threadlock should have been put on the shiny end bit, as that is the part of the thread that is screwed in (and where the original threadlock was taken off by being unscrewed).
Ha, never thought to alter the gear lever when I had some new boots I just kept riding until the new boot fit under the lever better! As for seat heights, turned down a mates 1050 Triumph as I could only reach the floor on tippy toes, it had only done 8000 miles, on reflection I should have bought some high heels then bought it. Interesting and informative video Neil and Chantal. Ride safe as always.
@@TheRiderGuider Last I heard he stuck it in his shed and it's still there. Unfortunately he got the sack with a group of others for taking bribes and stealing so haven't seen him for a few years. I keep an eye out on Ebay as it will be much cheaper now!
I'm gonna try get it sorted later this week, there's an engineering firm not far away from where I live, thinking 20mm off it!!! I struggle with it so Chantal has no chance.
Yes, for short riders (as me, 1.65 mts) the side stand is a problem. I believe is a design problem of the side stand. I installed in the side stand a longer piece on the side. However is not a well solution.
Brilliant! I will add that in North America BMW can lower the G310GS to the same height of their G310R, which is 30.9 inches. However, I am not sure if this is done at the factory and/or at the dealership once they already have it.
Thank you for the informative video. How did you adjust the height of kickstand? I recently had this link installed but my kickstand stand is putting the bike upright now when parked.
Hi guys! I am 1.65 mts, in other words a short person. I had also problems with the high of my G310 GS. What I did? I just bought the lower seat and bought higher shoes to drive the motorcycle. Before that, I asked in BMW about how to decrease the high of the motorcycle and they were very strong saying in Not modify the high of the forks as in the video is explained due if you do it, you are modifying the structure of the design, that can affected the driving in turns and also in high speed. Is a modification in gravity center. Is something not simple. So. In my opinion, take care, in this kind of modifications. Regards. Leonardo.

Super helpful. Any issues with the shifting once you had adjusted the lever? I did mine and found it didn't want to change gear when adjusted upwards so I had to put it back down. Lots of false neutrals or refusal to shift at all. I thought maybe I had shortened or affected the throw at the front ball joint too much. I'll give it another go when my bike is back from the dealer. I have a 2021 MY with cold start issues - can be annoying when it's 2 degrees down in Tassie and she refuses to take me to work!
Also - for your next upgrades I'm running bark busters (stock guards lasted one drop), the OEM crashbars and aluminium skid plate have already paid for themselves, but something like SRC or SW Motech ($$$) may be a better bet for upper fairing protection. I also have Motoz Tractionator Adventure tyres (very grippy but a little loud on ashphalt), and an R&G radiator guard or similar is a must have. It throws lots of mud and dirt up at the radiator. She's a very capable bike!
No issues so far mate, we'll keep an eye on the front ball joint. Been cold here too but the bike is garaged. We might end up on a boat to Tasmania one day, some great riding over there I've seen 🙂

Hello !! thanks for the video, is it very helpful for newbies like me? I would like to ask you, at the agency the seller recommends that I not lower my motorcycle so as not to alter the geometry, I reached the ground on tiptoes and it would be much easier for me to reach the ground with flat feet, my question is, did you have any performance problem with the bike by altering the geometry? Is the height of the motorcycle insufficient to take it to the field? or with any obstacle? Thanks in advance
Hi Erick, no problems whatsoever. There's not a massive difference in my opinion if you also drop the forks a little. There is still plenty of clearance. I recommend it. Thanks for watching and keep in touch we have more coming up on the GS soon.
Hello, its me again , I did lower my bike, the change was great, I feel confidence now! I have a question for you, did you cut the leg of the bike?? How many centimeters? I will cut this weekend my, it will be very helpful for me know this data. Thanks!
@ArielMoments yes I would say so, Chantal is 5’4” but has now got enough confidence to be considering going back to the standard height so at 5’2” a rider should be fine. Obviously there are other things to take in to account such as actual leg measurements but as a general guide you should need okay 👌🏼 🙂
