I watched these guys all season. They are a force to be reckoned with!!!! The horn line is sheer perfection. From fmr trumpeter...missin' the good olé days!!!!
I AM back EVERYDAY to watch this video...in fact, probably over a dozen times or more!! Every time I see and hear it, it literally brings chills down my spine. So beautiful and full of emotion. Those kids and staff are some of the luckiest people on the planet. I just hope they realize it....at least sometime in life...THANK YOU CROWN!!
Actually have had their percussion score above BD once and in one of the weeks in revue had the high percussion score for the week, along with the high brass score and guard score and overall score for the week. Thursday in MO should be a great show.
Only a few will get this reference. So is Harloff the Mike Portnoy of DCI where he wears a different jersey depending on what city he is at or he's just a Broncos' fan. BTW. Love what he is doing with Crown's hornline. Such a treat to see them live in person out here in the west coast.
Sorry if someone already answered your question, but Matt is just a Peyton Manning fan. When I marched in '09, he would wear Colts stuff since Manning was still playing for Indy.
No "probably" about it... I have been involved in the activity since the mid eighties and this is without a shadow of doubt, hands down the best hornline in the history of the activity. Carolina Crown 2013 is the Gold Standard.
I think this is a winning hornline with winning music. If Carolina Crown keeps it up, they should be a in the driver's seat to take it. But they'll just have to keep Blue Devils and Cadets as a spec in their rear view mirror first.
As a Highschool Freshmen Baritone player any advice for me? We've learned about half of our show already and my arms are getting tired around the end of it.
What are you reading? I would never say (and in fact never said) Crown has beaten everyone, because clearly, they have yet to all compete. Tonight has come and gone, and Crown emerged victorious. Cadets and BD are neck and neck with Crown in the drivers seat (for now). There is still a ton of season left, so lets not argue just to argue, yeah?
You just just have to get used to it and build the muscles used to hold the horn. You're always gonna get tired but as the season goes on you'll get less tired by the end of the show
Mostly percussion, but they also suffered in visual, possibly due to the several running sets messing with individual marching, and a little bit in color guard as well.
First of all, grats to CC, well earned and about damn time. Now, my beef...trendy "moves": 6 of the top 18 corps used that some worn out leg maneuver where the legs go to parade rest, they turn one knee out, turn the other knee in, turn both knees outward. Annoyingly trendy and its been going on for a few seasons now. Surpassed only be the de rigeur snare move where they put one leg forward, hit the last 4 notes real hard, and drop their arms to their sides oh so dramatically.
my point wasn't to argue or predict - just to your point that Crown has beaten "everyone" (your word, not mine) this year in all the captions except percussion. Wanted to point out that they have yet to face Cadets (who I saw live Sun night) and the road might change a bit Thursday. Cadets have a great corps this year. Folks on here saying Cadets will be a "spec in their rear view mirror" (Crown's) is a bit much. Cadets are the only undefeated DCI corps this year - and have 10 vs. 0. Just a fyi.
@prairiesound2004 What do you mean about BD's bad show concept? Crown's show this year is very similar to BD the past 3-4 years. People are only hating on BD because they win. I'm not a fan of BD, but I respect their ability and prowess. You should too.
Doing push ups and curls are good but you mainly want to focus on building endurance not strength. Hold your baritone in front of you for as long as you can. Time it. See if you can hold it out longer and longer everyday. Make sure you are holding it in the correct position or else you will just build improper muscle memory.
Wouldn't it stand to reason that if corps were scored fairly and objectively, some corps could win certain subcaptions but not even be in the top 12 overall? Instead, we end up with caption rankings that are rarely ever more than 2 or 3 places removed from overall rankings. The competition aspect of the activity uses imprecise rubrics to compare apples with oranges. It's all subjective and bogus anyway. For those of us on the outside looking in, it's about new experiences and being entertained.
This is the Denver show, That is the Colfax bridge in the background and the bar that everyone goes to after the show, Brooklyns, is behind the building they are warming up at.
And the award for best overall sound goes to...THE BLUE DEVILS.......... Wait a second....correction!!! The award for best overall sound actually goes to... CAROLINA CROWN
As much as I think the purple/red pants are a little much, does anyone else see the change to darker pants as the reason they've instantly became more competitive visually?
They completely earned that perfect brass.
Such a round, open, beautiful sound. More like a choir or organ than brass. Amazing.
Ughhhh I just love everything about this corps!!!!!
TILT
Vinnie Guardino that’s the bluecoats. This is Carolina crown
@@greatalbumslog figured they meant the profile picture but still nah that’s kinetic noise
Every time i listen to bd i allways stop and come back to crown, why is that
Joseph Marsh in my opinion crown has always had the better brass.
Joseph Marsh crown has a better blend and sound and isnt constantly masked by screamer solis
Because their brass is just better. BD can entertain you, but they can’t play like this, and crowns drill puts BD to shame while playing this stuff
1:35-2:05.
This is why you study for part writing in music theory. So that you can create the most simple yet beautiful things.
I watched these guys all season. They are a force to be reckoned with!!!! The horn line is sheer perfection.
From fmr trumpeter...missin' the good olé days!!!!
Oh my GOD what I would do to get to go back and hear this hornline in person is a list that is ENDLESS
I really hope Crown wins this year. They SO deserve it.
well well well
1:34 gave me chills, such a beautiful sounding horn line.
How in the world did I end up here again?
SAME
This comment is me in 2024.
Suddenly UA-cam is recommending a lot of older videos I have been watching in the past.
1:14
BAM!!
Glorious playing begins
I AM back EVERYDAY to watch this video...in fact, probably over a dozen times or more!! Every time I see and hear it, it literally brings chills down my spine. So beautiful and full of emotion. Those kids and staff are some of the luckiest people on the planet. I just hope they realize it....at least sometime in life...THANK YOU CROWN!!
This is seriously the best brass sound imaginable for a drum
Dang those Bari-euphs sound amazing!
Love that frigin ballad
and it's only july..... TAKE IT CROWN! So happy to be an alumni of this fine organization
This video was when I knew they'd win champs, or at least high brass
WOW! What an open brass sound!!
Part of the show. One of the parts when I tear up and get chills. Watch their show on youtube...you won't be disappointed.
I really hope they can keep up the momentum and finally get a long overdue championship!
This is why Crown is my favorite.
Shit looks cool. And the visuals are really fun when you're on field.
It's part of the show, and yes it is fantastic.
Great intonation and sound!
Actually have had their percussion score above BD once and in one of the weeks in revue had the high percussion score for the week, along with the high brass score and guard score and overall score for the week.
Thursday in MO should be a great show.
Possibly. Except I doubt Harloff would leave saying he needs a break, then want to come back only to find he's been replaced.
Crown........ so beautiful...
People are saying, "can they clean this beast of a show?" This video proves that they can and WILL clean it!
They not only got first in Brass yesterday, but in Visual, GE, and just overall by over a point.
Only a few will get this reference. So is Harloff the Mike Portnoy of DCI where he wears a different jersey depending on what city he is at or he's just a Broncos' fan. BTW. Love what he is doing with Crown's hornline. Such a treat to see them live in person out here in the west coast.
I wish I was able to ask you 9 years ago
Love it!
CANNOT WAIT!!!!!!!
Well played, DCI. Well played.
Sorry if someone already answered your question, but Matt is just a Peyton Manning fan. When I marched in '09, he would wear Colts stuff since Manning was still playing for Indy.

Best Sound In All Of Drum Corps
I've been doing 10-18lb curls almost everynight with some pushups every other night
Drums will have to do their share to win of course. Get close in drums and you've got
a winner. That may be a tall order, but it will interesting.
I feel like I'm back everyday to watch this video.
so gorgeous
@zRiddick I really think they're going to win, but I want Crown to move up a few places in percussion as well...
brass. standards. elevated.
CC WILL win High Brass this year! They can't be touched!
The ad before this video was for Mr. Clean. I agree.
6 BD fans.
Kevin Horn 11 now😂😂
a perfect score
I bet they had a good show that night.
Definitely agreed.
1:15 to the end = best parts of the show!
1:15 - *horn snap* "BAM!" Love it!
Nice tour goggles on the brass caption head (Matt Harloff?). ;-P
Regardless of any of the categories they score 5th or 6th in, I don't think there's much question that Crown will get High Brass this year.
I think this is a winning hornline with winning music. If Carolina Crown keeps it up, they should be a in the driver's seat to take it. But they'll just have to keep Blue Devils and Cadets as a spec in their rear view mirror first.
Tight!
Best. Brass. Staff. EVER.
ahh i love 1:32 to the end. :) so beautiful. and with the pit it sounds even better.
As a Highschool Freshmen Baritone player any advice for me? We've learned about half of our show already and my arms are getting tired around the end of it.

Awesomeness
Touche! Excellent reply LOL
1:30 to the end: Beautiful.
You just just have to get used to it and build the muscles used to hold the horn. You're always gonna get tired but as the season goes on you'll get less tired by the end of the show
Go Trumpets! :D I love Crown! :)
are you really watching lot videos for the image quality? :)
As much as I love Blue Devils, I feel that Crown has a high chance of taking the title this year.
So what exactly is that "something" that they've struggled with?
Mostly percussion, but they also suffered in visual, possibly due to the several running sets messing with individual marching, and a little bit in color guard as well.
Whoa that tonguing holy crap
First of all, grats to CC, well earned and about damn time. About time they get the gold :)
that is so epic..
WOOOOO!!! GO MR.HARLOFF!
Those mello eyebrows doe ;)

gdixonyoutuification too bad that they lost
Around the end of that half
That brass is so powerful it's breaking the camera lol
I cant tell if 1:32 is a part of the show or just a warm up. Either way, it's fantastic! Looking forward to see the final Product this August!
1:15 "Bam!" definitely correct bam
What was that?
@dannyboylancer the light fantastic
Ouch DCI, that's cold......
Mid-season BTW
The one "dislike" in this must be the same person who dislike the vid of Cadets drum line in the lot. $100 says that person wears blue.
Dat rolling shutter.
Great hornline. Too bad the de-interlacing isn't turned on. =(
Man that sunglasses tan on Matt
@prairiesound2004 What do you mean about BD's bad show concept? Crown's show this year is very similar to BD the past 3-4 years. People are only hating on BD because they win. I'm not a fan of BD, but I respect their ability and prowess. You should too.

Still can't get used to those uniforms
I'm sorry, what were you saying?

Oh damn!
I marched with Hurley in phantom era.... So , yes, seriously
Well back in MY day....
Can I have your job?
that looks like the st louis arch in the background haha
This is the Denver show, That is the Colfax bridge in the background and the bar that everyone goes to after the show, Brooklyns, is behind the building they are warming up at.
The "Arch" you see at :38 is a ride at Elitch gardens west of the stadium.
What are they playing at 1:16?
Found it it’s The Light Fantastic by Paul Lovatt-Cooper if anyone wants to know
sure...
Percussion perhaps? Visual perhaps? Guard perhaps? Look at visual scores before they switched to black pants...interesting, huh?
And the award for best overall sound goes to...THE BLUE DEVILS..........
Wait a second....correction!!! The award for best overall sound actually goes to...
CAROLINA CROWN
