- Sorry this took so long I've been kinda losing it lately but after a good rest in maine and a nice chat with my therapist im feeling pretty good also sorry for speed running things i rewrote my script like 10 times before i just said screw it and rambled on about nothing lol ill be more on point with the hazbin video (also trying something new my avatar messes with my computer so i thought id give it a break and use the many great faces of adrien lol) I hope you all enjoyed this speed draws!

Okay, first off: Civilian Kagami, pretty cute :3 makes me go “Yeah, she looks like a transfer student.” Hero Kagami HOWEVER! HOLY CRAP IT’S BEAUTIFUL! ITS FLUFFY! SHE BE LOOKING LIKE A CLOUD! I LOVE IT! The fact she looks like a samurai, along with the colors matching more towards personality and the power is beautiful :3
Please do Caprikid next. Especially the fact that Nathaniel's hairstyle doesn't change either. It still stays the same color too. Was making his hair black and white too much of a challenge?

In that episode with Zoe and her shoes that Chloe made fun of, their dad took Zoe up to the roof of the hotel where he showed her his box of discarded hopes and dreams, and in said box there was his movie script and headshots, one of Emilie (Adrien’s mom, who we know for a fact did appear in that movie) and a woman who looks extremely similar to Kagami but who looks nothing like Kagami’s “mom”, who always struck me more as a strict grandmother except Kagami canonically calls the woman currently raising her “mother”. Could Kagami’s mom actually have been an actress and been cast out of the Tsurugi family for it? Which would leave the grandma to raise her abandoned daughter as her own? There’s so many tiny hints that have gone completely overlooked

I heard a similiar teory: In the teory, Kagami's actual mother, who was Tomoe's actual daughter and wanted to be an actress, was rebel and got pregnant as a teenager, but she died in during childbirth or a little after Kagami was born. So Tomoe raised her as her daughter, gave her the same name as her late daughter but raised her in a much more strict way so that the same wouldn't happen to her granddaughter.
theory is fun ! but thomas completely ruined it cuz he confirmed on twitter that it was just a random woman, that guy needs to learn how to let his audience have fun with the ideas (and you know, not steal them, but no one talks about that.)

"Yes I did rewatch the series" oh you unfortunate soul, we thank you for your sacrifice, but also love her new design, her new look is simplistic & straightforward, much like how she was supposed to be, her hero look isnt just another cut & paste of ladybug, it makes more sense especially with her & her mom practicing kendo as well, honestly making her blue instead of red gives her a more calming feel aswell & I got sisu from rya & the last dragon vibes from her hero look too

5:47 Quick little nitpick, the swords being used in the image shown indicate that Kagami is practicing Kendo (a Japanese martial art), not fencing. You can tell because of the use of bamboo based swords instead of using a foil, épée, or sabre (the swords used in fencing).
Otherwise, fantastic video and an excellent redesign. The sword nerd in me just couldn’t help pointing this out.
I love how her design screams "Anger" while also looking quite disciplined, like she is finally letting out her emotions while not necessary lashing out, kind of like being in the eye of the storm *BADUM TSS*
Kagami's hair is very “helmet“ like and it's probably one of the reasons it looks off.
Plus - In 2D animation you can do this kind of hair because you can show the eyebrows on top of the hair, but in 3D you have to follow the “real life“ logic, so they can't make this stylistic's choices, so you have to be very mindful of the designs and how they work in 3D.
Most designs start in 2D and the character designer has to be HYPER aware if it's going to translate well to 3D.
For example- 3D Phineas from Phineas and Ferb does not work AT ALL, his design is extremely graphic and it only works in 2D(I do believe it's one of the reasons the creators kind of more “normal“ for Milo Murphy).
So here is a tip for aspiring Character Designers, from someone who has already 10 years of professional experience- Always ask if the character is going to be 2D or 3D, and always think of the possibility of the character you are designing is going to become a TOY, it makes the modeler's life way easier.
The show writers I think want to make Kagami look like Marinette. Because God forbid someone look better than ladybug or Marinette! Everyone looks better than ladybug aka Marinette! That's just a fact!

I really like how you made Ryuko blue instead of red. While red dragons do exist in East Asian mythology, they are mostly associated with the sun, like Zhulong, or are associated with good luck and prosperity, whereas the Dragon Miraculous has weather-based powers, and Asian dragons that are associated with weather like Shenlong are traditionally depicted as blue, green, or azure. Most Japanese dragon are water deities associate with rainfall and bodies of water, so having Kagami's hero outfit be blue instead of red would make way more sense. Plus we already have 3 Asian female superheroes with red hero suits already, and 2 of them are dragon-themed. It's so overused and lame at this point. That just goes to show that the creators of this show should've done more research on East Asian mythology

I love Kagami's civillian outfit it shows so much of the shy/cold and hardworking personality that her mom pushes on her while showing how she is sort of laid back.
That hero costume is perfect. Now that you mentioned it the best part if her old costume was the dragon tail running down her leg, which does the same with Mari's when she used it. Unrelated yo this but they took my boy's fluff away, rip Angel's chest floof.
If only Thomas Astruct were able to see this, considering he is way to prideful in his “original designs”.
I love the dragon/lion main you've given her in her hero outfit. I also like that you're being cohesive with coloring the whites of the eyes for each hero outfit. It just gives each character that much more umpf! I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Alastor and Angel, and I can't wait for the next vid!
Also honestly, for something that is 3d, they could do pretty detailed hero suits, while still making it easy for kids to draw.
Exactly most of the male suits are extremely well put together and easy to draw so i dont get why they choose to make the female suits so simple
Yo! B A R E F O O T G A N G! If I could waltz around barefoot, I would, but I can’t, so I wear combat boots. Cuz they go with everything. Lovin’ the Kagami redesign here, especially the fluffy hair for Ryuko. Good lord, this fits more than the original hero costume. This just v i b e s.

Kagami is one of my few favorites in this show so I love the glow up you gave her. As for the uniform, I always just took it as she goes to a fancy private school and that's the uniform for it, with the laziness of the crew sprinkled in
The redesigns of both civilian and hero Kagami look so good! Her civilian outfit looks more stylish and her hair looks great. The hero outfit looks more inspired by Japanese dragons and the details are amazing. It’d definitely take more effort and time to animate her hero outfit due to the amount of detail, especially if it was 2D animation, but I really like it a lot! Nice job!

If I remember right the Tsurugis own a tech company, which partnered with Agreste fashion i dunno why though but pretty sure its a tech company.
Also Kagami does go to marinette's school, she is just in a different class, like Aurel Borial(Stormy Weather)
I personally think civilian kagamis colors have better contrast in og kagami and I do miss her little bull cut but HOLY SHIT UR RYUKO REDRAW IS A MASTERPIECE EVERYTHING ABOUT IS JUST 😗👌

Also, about the dragon miraculous being the only mythological miraculous
The reason it’s there is bc that miracle box is the Chinese mother box
In other words, it’s the one with the Chinese zodiac miraculous (except for the bee, butterfly, peacock, ladybug, black cat, fox and turtle)
The turtle does play a part somewhat, but only bc the Chinese believe they bring health and long life
The other miraculous r irrelevant in terms of the zodiacs, but I’m pretty sure they were added cuz the team thought they would be cool

I love Kagami! And I also love the use of Adrien and Chat for the intro images.
Also an explanation and irritation based on Ryuko.
Ryuko is wearing red because in China red is good, and Longg is inspired by Chinese dragon mythology with the wind, rain, and storm.
What bugs me is that they're treating longg if he/she was of japanese culture. Longg used Japanese suffixes and speaks to kagami in a more familiar tone. BUT THEIR CHINESE, it also was made appoint that in Kung food they wanted to differentiate Chinese vs Japanese culture and food. But Kung food's design has Japanese inspired food in it. It's just messy representation. I'm not picky about it but if they are going to make it points about characters at least put more effort.
One last tangent, instead of hiring Chinese voice actors to play the Chinese characters, they got them Chinese trainers to help the actors sound more natural. Which is kinda odd.
Imagine writing a show about France, one of the most high fashion countries in the world, and making fashion a vocal point of your story but being too lazy to be actually fashionable with any of your “high fashion” characters
They didn't even bother hiring actual fashion designers or at least held contests lol

Miraculous costumes are influenced by the wielder's taste, desire and time period which means that there are so many opportunities that could be explored regarding the costume designs. They should've incorporated the characters' personalities, self identities, taste in fashion and cultures into their hero designs but apparently every hero costumes in the show has to be skin tight spandex with patterns slapped on it
You got the world kabuki correct and yes you are right this does look like a kabuki player would wear.

Red is my favorite color, so I might of been a bit biased, but I did like both Ryuko and Dragon Bug's designs. I guess it would of been less of a riff if they put some more Asian influence into Ladybug's costume. They didn't seem to factor that side of her family into her character. I did see a Ladybug redesign that I really liked. I guess Ladybug was a bit handicapped by being one of the first characters.
You do raise a good point. Given that it's a storm dragon they should of made it's colors white or blue. It would of been more fitting given the power set.

She looks like a samurai with that armour and those pants! And the weathery elements are actually connected to the dragon type so it makes her powers more believable!
Like her main looks almost like a stormy cloud or the foam on a stormy sea and gold is reminding me of lighting.
The blue looks so good on her and it really contrasts her civilian self which I always love in your mlb designs.
I also did not enjoy the weird circular shape of Kagami a hair especially in civilian form, something about ryuko lessens the blow but it’s still pretty bad.

About school uniforms in Paris (and France in general).
Some private schools do have them (mainly schools that teach in a different language, that are generally more expensive so for wealthier kids), but most don’t (public schools certainly don’t).
I did go to school in Italy for a few years and kept the uniform. I sometimes wear it to my French high school and everyone says I look like a British/Japanese school girl. So yeah, school uniforms aren’t common in France.
I like her hero outfit and that the amor part are from a samuar amor and it is perfect bucasuse she is Japanise

I feel like Kagami is that type of character, who is on her own not really that special and there's not a lot about her, but she trives a lot in the relationships with other character. Like her interactions with others are so entertaining to me and I feel like we are being robbed when creators decided for Adrien and Kagami to part ways. Idc if Mari and Adrien are endgame, they are boring as hell and Adrigami is better. Here I said it.

When I was little my bangs fell in my face all the time. So I just brushed them into the back of my hair. And it hasn't been a problem since for me.^^
7:07 uniform in french school are EXTREMILY rare there is low chance you would see a student (high school or junior high school) wearing one in france !
Ok cool i was so worried about mentioning the uniform being out of place since I wasn't sure cause here school uniforms are usually a elementary thing its super rare though and I don't even think our Catholic schools have uniforms anymore
pfpfpf its okay thought ! school uniform in france arent a thing since around 1970s if i remember correctly? plus knowing that most of the mlb teens are in a public school there would be little to no chance they end up in one. however since they are in junior high school (high school here only start at grade 10) there would be a lot of restrictions on what the students can wear and not wear and like you could be sent back home just for their appearance/way they present themselves (like i remember when i was in 6 to 9 grade there would be A WHOLE PAGE for outfits in school guidelines lmao) it often include suggestive stuff (obviously) but also religious symbols, sometimes died hair ripped jeans, outrageous look are also not recommended. then the school will decide which other thing should be restricted there; so it can be different from one school to another .these guidelines kinda vanish in high school and student are more free with their clothing style :0! hope this can help !really liked your redesigned so far :D

I love Kagami
I think that Kagami should have had all of the elements instead of just three (Water, Fire, Ice, Wind, Lightning, Earth, etc) and a Dragon form that counts as using all of the elements at once. So, if she just uses one element, like in the show she won’t change back until they are all used but she will change back after being in Dragon form for five minutes.

I kinda dropped this show before Kagami became a significant character, but I still kept track of how the series was going and mY GOD I was disappointed- these redesigns are amazing

Hi, this is my first comment on your channel! Usually I don't do this because 1. It makes me nervous and 2. For your videos, there's so many things I love in your designs that I know I'm going to end up writing 4 hours about it despite not having the energy. But I'm a Japanese person and this video made me really really satisfied with the way you connected the design elements, especially with the blue being a contrast to Marinette's Ladybug outfit and a nod to weather-themed Asian dragons! It just made so much sense and I really appreciate the amount of time, thought and research you put into it. It makes me really happy that you learned and are spreading understanding about traditional Japanese culture, and incorporating the Kabuki aspects to Kagami's hero suit design just left me awestruck because it's genuinely so clever, it really differentiates her design from the more Chinese aspects of Eastern dragons!
Funnily enough I actually really liked Kagami's original design from the show, especially the hair because in my Canadian experience with Asians I see a lot of middle-aged Chinese women wear these and it kind of gives an old-fashioned and professional kind of air, which made me think her mother probably gets it cut like that. I really love your civilian design for her as she conveys a sort of mean girl look, but the hair from the show hid her eyebrows which I liked on the contrast because it conceals her emotions, something she doesn't show very often! Though I was nodding heavily when you were presenting your criticisms towards her and the show, I really love Kagami as I just see her as a perfectionist and logic-over-emotions kid, maybe she's learned how to woo her suitors with her talents so she can have a husband in the future but just never got the time to form genuine platonic cconnectios with people as she always saw them as an inefficient waste of time. Meanwhile Marinette doesn't know how to act on her super emotional feelings and always messes up, but she knows how important having friends is and can help teach Kagami that.
My one nitpick with the show was that even though I enjoy casual Japanese representation in Western media, I feel like she could have been Chinese instead. I don't understand why the very few Asian people (in comparison to the non-Asians, I mean) in the show need to be from different cultural backgrounds if they aren't from the same family... I feel like Marinette, who's more influenced by Western French culture, could have had interesting interactions with Kagami who comes from a strict Eastern Chinese family.
I think the reason why I can't really see her as Japanese is also because there's a pretty big difference between traditional Chinese and Japanese culture, and Kagami just feels like a really general view of what cold Asians look like (which usually derives from Western views of Chinese people). In most traditional households, Japanese girls are raised to be super polite, smart, beautiful, soft-spoken and obedient to be good wives or just pretty and convenient "trophies" to the husbands they get wed to and this is still a struggle in modern Japan as women don't get as many rights as men. It's really recent that the government actually took action to lower skirt lengths after years and years of protest because perverted adults think it's cute to see short skirted minors walk to school freezing and anxious. Gender inequality and sexual harassment is still much more severe compared in Japan to America, or at least Canada anyways. I'm not too sure on the Chinese experience to make valid comparisons though I do think it's similar, just that it's more likely that parents like Kagami's mom might be more likely to want to raise their girl to be strong and efficient. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though!
Also dragons, to my knowledge, were also passed originally passed down from the Chinese and the only thing that's really Japanese about them are the myths and stories that were derived afterwards. So I just think it makes more sense for them to make Kagami Chinese if they weren't going to add more Japanese-like stuff to her, like she practices Kendou instead of fencing or something. It just feels like she was made to be "East Asian" than Japanese...
Aaa anyways I'm very sorry about the super long rant, tl;dr Chinese and Japanese culture are different and I love your ideas for her new hero suit, it's very fitting to her personality as she is more direct and efficient so she would definitely wear something like samurai armour which is more attributed to combat! I love watching your videos and you're such a huge inspiration of creativity for me, I've been planning on releasing my Ladybug, Cat Noir, Alastor, Husk etc. redesigns someday soon maybe in video format thanks to the courage and entertainment you've given me! Your thought processes are such a delight to hear and I'm looking forward to more videos from you, regardless of being art-related or not. As someone who loves Japan so much (even to the point of learning their flaws and best potential), I just wish Japan should be able to equal their rights of woman even the balanced country. Right now I'm working on my series based on Japan's reality (although I might get hate for it), but it's worth it. Even my favorite japanese UA-camr is trying to change Japan, and if he does it, then so am I. I'm not giving up to the country I loved since childhood, I want Japan to be in balanced, even there are ups and downs

She didn't get the character development that the MLB fandom expected her to, got shoehorned into the Penalteam episode with 3 other holders, didn't get a transformation or a power sequence, the way they handled her "character development" in Penalteam felt so forced and out of nowhere with zero build up, her Miraculous power is weak af (yes I know Felix stole all the Miraculouses with it but that's because Felix was lucky and smart), her costume is ATROCIOUS and they missed the opportunity to base her off a police dog or a guard dog, and she got replaced after 1 episode!

Really? I thought I was the only one who believed that Adrien mistook Kagami for Ladybug.
I was never quite sure if Marinette and Kagami looking so similar was supposed to be some kind of....red Herring for Adrien, or if it was supposed to show that the Boy simply had a Type.
It might have madefor an interesting Story though:
Adrien going out with Kagami only because he believed her zo be a masked Superhero.
Of course, their Relationship would probably be ruined when Kagami realizes that, but it might be a good Wakeup Call for Adrien:
He strung along a really nice Girl that showed genuine Interest in him because he was so obsessed with Ladybug, who doesn't care about Cat Noir.
Maybe this would have even helped him move on! Because these Kids really need to get over their Worship of each other. It's getting weird.
However, to be perfectly honest....I am almost glad that we *didn't* get this.
It's sad that we only got so little Adrigami before the Ship sank, but at least they got together because they liked each other, not because of a Misunderstanding.

But ohh man i absolutely adore the new hero costume and im SO glad im not the only one thinking of fluffy hair pieces to go w dragon masks XD it kinda kills me that pretty much everyone in the show wears basically latex full suits which feels dumb, especially nowadays so i cant thank you enough for giving her the justice she deserved so much

Fr. The designers of this show should incorporate the characters' personalities, taste in fashion, self identities and cultures into their hero designs instead of just taking Ladybug's suit, changing the colors and patterns and call it a day

This is a cool redesign and I love how the hero design reminds me of the Eastern Dragon Seiryuu of the Four Gods.
Kagami's model her hair lines with her eyes, exaggerating her eyes and eyebrows, it shows the intensity of her eyes and face in comparison to their eyes
They really did kagami dirty in the canon design when it comes to her hair, like it sort of suits her but at the same time it doesn't, which is sad because she's probably one of my favourite female characters in miraculous ladybug :/
First of all, all those goofy looking Adrien faces had me legit laughing out loud. Second, I love both of these redesigns. The only thing I would probably do different is that I'd keep the tranformed hair all wild and fluffy but put it in a high ponytail. The civilian hair is a major improvement and I really like the uneven hemline of the skirt. It's simple but gives her a bit more personality, if that makes sense.
I can't wait to see your take on Alastor and Angel. I like Alastor's official design just fine, but I have a couple of feelings about Angel's.
Hey ! About the uniform, not many schools in France have uniforms so I don't think she should be wearing one. (I've litterally never seen anyone wear a uniform in my life) Really good redisigns by the way !

Omg ikr?! Every time the creators of this show want to create another hero suit, they just take Ladybug's suit and change the color scheme and the pattern to match the animal. It's lazy and boring. Miraculous costumes are influenced by the wielder's taste and desire which means that there are so many possibilities that could've been explored regarding the hero designs. They could've incorporated the characters' personalities, self identities, taste in fashion and even cultures into their hero costumes but apparently all hero costumes have to be skin tight spandex because it's "easier to animate"
