I wanna give Shane leeway but in our experience “a little bit of leeway” usually turns into “we need to wait for year two of the offense” pretty quick. Shane has to demonstrate that he knows how to run an offense THIS YEAR.

Velus has been good on special teams (other than returner). Also i think they are building him up slowly to be the #2 RB eventually. Hes going to start getting more than a few carries.
i'm glad caleb's inaccuracy was certainly on the side of playing too safe instead of trying to throw through tight windows or throwing balls short
Talking about Velus, I wonder:
1. How does his inclusion relate to attacking a strong IDL?
2. Is the balance here related to getting him live game reps for his growth?
3. To what degree is Velus’ inclusion about hiding looks / putting tape out there to play off of and counter to?
4. To what degree is it about wear and tear reduction for Herbert, Johnson and Swift?
Also, as Fishbain commented and you all discussed, isn’t Velus on ST as a gunner, blocker etc. on punts and kicks? He was on the field for STeams for 12 snaps - 3rd most on the team behind Homer and Blasing.
If we’re going to celebrate STeams, he was definitely a part of that. That’s value. If he can run 4 times for 4 yds per carry and get on the field for all of the ST snaps - that’s needed.
None of those 4 points are true IMO. Velus is a liability now. Even if he gets more touches he'll eventually fumble at the worst possible time. It's going to happen. He's still here only because the position coaches a sucking up to Poles and Poles wants to prove he was "right" about his draft pick.

No one all week has mentioned the possibility that Keenan Allen was also too slow on that out and up? That was one of my first thoughts in real time, that Caleb expected a lot more speed to get to the ball location than Keenan was able to run. Yes it was an overthrow - but is it possible that Keenan was just slow getting there? Just a question.

You don’t put Velus at RB because he can’t catch a cold and if he’s out there it’s a dead giveaway what the play will be. There’s simply better options out there at this point. Would they be pulling so hard for a draft pick that wasn’t in the third round?
Khari is a good lead blocker in the running game. In space, he isn't the same. I'd say the same about Kmet

If Vajayjay is off the active roster this week b/c of his poor play, then Nate Davis and the C should also be. btw, that's not a defense of Fumbalina, just saying Davis and the C were worse.
Davis was the best interior lineman when he was in the game, Teven was the one who was horrible.

FYI, Cole Kmet snap % since 2022, according to pro football reference. 2022 ==> 94% 2023 ==> 77% 2024 ==> 48% [Only 1 game, obviously].
