I really shouldn't but: Protons cannot easily penetrate matter easily as the electromagnetic repulsion between atomic nuclei is massive at small distances. This is why nuclear fusion reactions are so difficult to start. Neutrons on the other hand don't have this issue which is why they are used in modern fission reactors to trigger nuclear reactions. While the charge might make it easier to pass through the ray shields it most certainly won't help in the damage department... unless the torpedo itself is made through the clumping of protons which would generate a very unstable cluster of matter that would detonate as soon as whatever containment field is holding it together is released

01:00 The torpedoes seem to be physical objects in of themselves that contain the protons before release.
But everything I've looked at regarding particle beam weapons disagrees; particle beams using things like protons can contain fissionable energy levels and deal tremendous damage to physical matter, if not burst with destructive radiation on impact... but they can be relatively easy to stop with something like a ray shield.

1) Lock on nimble fighter such as X or A-wing. X-wing is better, because R-droid can operate transponder. Then just lock on transponder instead of fighter itself.
2) Then targeted fighter starts to dance, literally. Dont shoot, just fly fast as close as possible to target.
3) Disable transponder while torpedoes fly in straight line toward target.
4) Korran Horn still gets jack shit for that Lancer.

Strategy: target the engines and shield generators first with slashing attacks, so the ship cannot escape or absorb turbo laser damage. Targeting the hangars to destroy its fighter escorts is also a smart move. Once it's castrated and immobilized, attack from angles of your choosing.

I don't know why, but the difference between photon torpedoes and proton torpedoes sound like comparing High Explosive (HE) rounds with High Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT) rounds.

A photon torpedo is designed to explode INSIDE the enemy ship, transforming an harmless (by Star Trek standards) 64 megatons explosion in something with one-shot potential.

Proton torpedos are meant for giant capital ships and giant space stations like star destroyers, large separatists cruisers and Death Stars.

Any tips on texturing starship hulls? I've been trying to model a couple of my own concepts, but haven't been able to find any solid sources or guides for hull texturing.
I find that texturing a ship is where most of my time goes. I use about five different material maps in each material, and use many many layers when working on the material in 2d. It takes time; I don't take many shortcuts or use existing photos (only if I need somethign quick). Star wars ships can get away with a lot of smudges and grit, star trek ships need a lot of specular 'aztecing' to look right. Eventually I would love to try live streaming this but I would rather upgrade some hardware first.

Resurrected Starships Gundam is easy to get into but Macross would need some fan help to get footage. Info on mechs for Macross is easy though Macross Mecha Manual has translated tech info on all of the variable fighters and ships.

The rebels had a much better navy. If it were of equal scale to the imperial navy, the empire would not stand a chance. The rebels had ships with better shields, a proper point defense, and hyperspace capable shielded fighters/bombers. The empire failed to give the Imperial II class any kind of point defense outside its complement of non shielded, non hyperspace capable, line of sight only TIE fighters. This allows the rebels to launch fighters out of a system, keeping their fleet as a whole safe, and those fighters can attack the relatively unguarded Imperial II star destroyers with ease. If the rebels would have to fight an Imperial I or the Imperial II has a proper escort (which many of them did not have) then the Mon Calamari cruisers, Liberators, or Assault Frigates could hyperspace in and destroy the escorts/act as a distraction for the Imperial I class.
Tactically, the empire had a faulty system that could only ever lead to defeat. The only case of the rebels being completely outmatched was in ground combat, and even that wasn't much of an issue since the rebellion had very few permanent bases.

A missile from a fighter jet probably has similar damage output compared to a proton torpedo, but it travels dozens of times faster, (mach 6+)!
2 Proton Torpedoes were enough to tear a 325 meter long cruiser in half, that's the equivalent of two missiles splitting a Gerald. R Ford Supercarrier in two.

Not really, the F-35, like every craft in real life, they have to worry about bleeding off energy and their fuel consumption is much higher than the X-Wings. Also if the X-Wing is using it's shields it will be able to travel much faster, in between mach 90 - mach 100.
lancer737 where does it say that I know it can travel faster but it didn't really say that on wookiepedia but still the x wing isn't aerodynamic so one missile exploding near it will knock it out of the sky proton torps also only have a range of 600 meters so the f-35 can fire off it's missiles before the x wing could get near it

Rory O'Brien The missiles can't even damage it. They show in rebels unshielded ships can almost travel through an entire nebula full of proto stars, putting out immense radiation, gravity, magnetic fields, and heat.
The Laser cannon ranges on the x-wing are 50 miles, and unlike what a f-35 it can rapidly fire them for 2-3 days nonstop. Lastly they use there anti-grav drives to travel through atmospheric, along with the engines.

In the late 40s early 50s when Russian detonated its 50 Megaton nuke it blew away 300 square miles of Real Estate so how is that weak compared to Photon Torpedoes or whatever torpedoes because to me if your ships only or 500 yards long and you got a blast radius of 300 wouldn't your shielding get knocked out remember the Enterprise on the original episode The romulans that were running around in a hopped-up bird of prey dropped a canister out about took out the Enterprise so don't understand
Well, in a vacuum most of the damage from a nuke, as well as a photon torpedo, isn't going to be from an explosive blast (like on earth) but from the radiation or heat. You need a lot of radiation resistant shielding and armor, which is very doable but still requires some good engineering on the ship. Just 1.5 kg of antimatter in a photon torpedo can yield 64 megatons with a good matter/antimatter mix. Proton torpedoes from star wars may use a nuclear charge but modern science knows how to control protons easier than say, a radiation blast from a photon torpedo, or a typical nuke. So yeah, purely speaking of what we know from science, nukes are still a pretty good weapon albeit crude.

I think you're reading way too much into the name proton torpedo, it's just a cool sounding sci-fi name for an explosive projectile weapon.
I though they were 'photon torpedoes '. Also your reasoning sucks, if they are an anti-mater weapon, fine, but if they are not it's some serious magic. I'm fine with the magic just don't pretend that physics can cover it.
