The requiem for a dream parts made tear up....still the most devastating movie i have seen
Danny C me too
Watch Come and See
Yeah....... me too !!!
Best drug psa movie ever schools should screen this
@@miguelvidal2335 I love that movie
Many actors have given Aronofsky their best work.
I never thought I'd cry watching Marlon Wayans, but Requiem made me get slightly emotional at the mere sight of him. Fucking masterpiece of a film.
Or maybe he gave them their best role
@@atutor1 Or maybe he is intelligent to the point that gives him the ability of digging out these precious acts from his actors!
"psychological distress, self-doubt, isolation"... Sums up my life pretty well.
You know its a Darren Aronofsky film when the camera spends 5 minutes following someones back.
To me his career height was requiem for a dream...the fountain is an overlooked masterpiece, which I can totally recommend
I liked everything except Noah but to say I didn't like Noah is a huge understatement, I really didn't like it lol. I will give mother! a chance for sure though.
I can't believe the same director that took 10 years to produce "Noah" made "Mother!" in one year. Such an polished movie.
The Fountain is by far my favourite.
Darren Aronofsky is my favorite Director of all time.
Thought you guys would never make a video on him but so glad you did.
Reuben Taylor I’m at the same point as you on the political compass
Mother getting so much backlash angered me deeply. I hope that his next film is better received.
Who gives a f*** about backlash and what critics say. Mother! is a psychological masterpiece and is Aronofsky's best film.
@@Shah-of-the-Shinebox I love Mother but nah, The Wrestler is superior
@@Shah-of-the-Shinebox was about to like but it’s 2nd
The unfathomable profundity of Aronofsky's work never fails to leave you spellbound. He's one of the finest directors and Requiem for a Dream is one of my most beloved films.
Love what he said about expressionism and style. He's one of my favourite directors of all time, and I've always admired his works, and it makes me happy to know he shares the same view on what movies to make, as I do. I'm also trying to become a filmmaker, and this is very inspiring. Also big up everyone in the comments, love seeing so many fans!
Mother leaves me breathless all the time, it’s definitely one of my favorite films but at the same time it’s really hard for me to watch it again bc I always ended up feeling really depressed
Also, the work of Satoshi Kon and his film PERFECT BLUE! Darren Aronofsky seems to really LOVE this director's films.
Olivia Worthen
He bought the rights to perfect blue
You also forgot to mention him ending his movies with an audience applauding in a bleak situation ;)
Good catch! Hadn't realized that
Aka Black Swan
woah !
mother! and noah don't end with applause though?
koomz Pi and The Fountain don't end like that either, it's not much of a motif in his filmography
Aronofsky is my favorite director working today. His films are unlike what anyone is doing at the moment. I cannot wait to see mother!. It promises to be a mind trip of pure chaos.
His movies have literally been done before. Watch more movies and you'll see his are nothing new.
Adam Taucher I much prefer Edgar Wright. Amazing creativity and hilarousness
@Gary Allen Perfect Blue
@@julietteceline all movies have been done before and so you can take your pretentious comment and shove it where the sun don't shine
What did you think of it?
I think I may have PTSD from Requiem for a Dream
You know you're watching a Darren Aronofsky film if there's Satoshi Kon anime references that are even more glaring than the ones in Nolan's Inception.
Burn!
what animes he pulled from?
wade schiavone Perfect Blue is more than "just" inspiration for Black Swan, for one.
Novice here...please help...who's Satoshi kon?
@@adityabharatee6655 he's a japanese director of animated films that often portray really complex concepts (Paprika) or characters (Perfect Blue). And I also think he directed Tokyo Godfathers.
May he rest in peace
Should have directed Deathnote.
oh my fucking god yes
Deathnote should have been a show instead of a movie
Yes please
Oh yes!! That would have been so beautiful
I LOVE HOW YOU DESCRIBE THESE MOVIES> It just makes so much sense. Thank you!
Aronofsky is an aquarius, of course he will analyse the relationship between genius vs insanity
Great video as usual!!! Aronofsky is a ver unappreciatted filmmaker, one of my favorites, I wish he had made his Batman Year One project. 'The Fountain' deserves a video of its own, not many people get thas beautiful poem to death!!! Keep up the great content, you're one of my favorite channels! (and I'm so in love with Susannah's voice... please don't ever smoke). Thanx!
I still wonder what the Batman: YEAR ONE would look like if Aronofsky directed it
James Gleyo i think bruce wayne would of just straight up died in the end if Aronofsky's plans for the character came to fruition
I don't care if Bruce Wayne dies or not I just wonder what his vision of the Batman would look like if he was to direct and write it. If Joel Schumacher was able to direct the Batman why not Aronofsky's dark and gritty tone of the character.
funnily enough Joel Shumacher would have been perfect to direct a gritty urban Batman story. instead they convinced him to make toy commercials.
I want to see it as a graphic novel. Maybe if DC would be willing to find the script and have it published.
I think all your analysis is great but my favourites are the ones when you look at a directors work as a whole,
I've never studied film or really approached much work like that and your explanations are very clear and cohesive, so thank you!
The Fountain is sadly a very underrated movie
Definitely. I've never had a movie have an effect on me like this one. I was on my way out one day, I had somewhere I needed to be. I went to turn off the television but ended up standing there hypnotized for over an hour.
BRLLIANT! AMAZING ESSAY!
Mother! Has already been called the most controversial film since A Clockwork Orange, if that doesn't get you hyped, nothing will
excuse me but Antichrist for example was much more controversial
The emoji movie is more controversial
Woww seriously?
If you didn't understand the point/message of A Clockwork Orange I really need to ask "Where you even watching the film?", it's questioning whether changing a man by force can happen, and if so, should it happen.
The priest Alex befriends points this clearly by insisting that because of him being forced to be repulsed of violence he doesn't have the moral choice of rejecting it.
Emi Grant Thank you for explaining that!
Up there with the best of modern directors. And, if it hadn't been for Blade Runner, Mother! would have been my favourite film of the year. Ambitious, brave, in-your-face filmmaking, the likes of which we rarely see hit the mainstream.
My only qualm is knowing that the Marvel-chugging mainstream audience's misunderstanding of Mother! may have killed Aranofsky's chances of continuing to make arthouse films released to a wider audience.
I didn't see mother (yet) but on the plus side Requiem For A Dream didn't do so hot at the box office in 2000 either, but is still remembered now.
Dang, I was hoping for a bit more analysis of The Fountain. Probably one of my favorite films. Otherwise, great video as always.
great analysis! i can't wait to watch mother in cinemas soon
hands down the most superb analysis of the Take. luv your channel
Darren Aronofsky is one of the best filmmakers of his generation.
you forgot the most important one: you're always watching a biblical metaphor.
@Gary Allen This response is poetry.
Thanks for the donated food from the cafes you co-own in Northern California, Darren! We victems of the Carr fire appreciate your generocity! 😁
Amazing analysis, as always! Aronofsky has really proved himself to be one of the greatest directors of all time. I love everything he does
Great video! Aronofsky is one of my fave directors, and now I have a better understanding of why.
I feel like Noah is his weakest movie because it failed to translate the message of human disaster, it felt more like a blockbuster than a complex character/moral study and also the actors did an awful job, but in Mother! he did it very well, giving a deeper sense with a more minimalistic approach. I think it's his best movie yet.
Requium for a dream is such an indie cult classic that changed my life once I saw it...ive seen the movie about 4 or 5 times and it is such a crazy experience that everytime (especially the first viewing) that it left with a serious loss for words...i legit couldn't utter a single word for almost half an hour....damn I love that movie
The Fountain❤️
Most beautiful movie ever made in my opinion and such a haunting but beautiful film score.
Favorite Director. Ever.
thank you so much for this, its amazing
This video is spot on. SUBSCRIBED!
Thank you!
He is my favorite director, his cinematic style of showing life is not perfect is his what makes him standout!
Incredible video essay. Thank you
I really like Noah. Frank Langella as Og was an awesome character. There are so many great scenes like when Og tells the story of how the "watchers" came to be. Noah's story of creation scene was really cool too.
Obsessed with all your content guys! Keep up the fantastic work.
Love this video. Aronofsky is a fucking genius. Can't wait to see Mother!
T bone So? I couldn't care less.
dawngrrrl well good for you ,I happen to think it's disgusting.
@@tbone9603 you're disgusting.
This is great!!
Subbed
Requiem & BlackSwan are 2 of my ultimate tops!! I luv them sooo much!❤️
When Nina growls “it’s MY turn” in that ending fight.....chilling🥶
Requiem for a Dream is top 5 favorite movies all time
Love these!
Amazing video!
What a genius! Love his work! So many layers of meanings in his rich, disturbing films! Great cinema!
I love this channel so much
Screen Prism is so above the majority of film-analysis channels in terms of depth that it's not even funny.
This channel is underrated.
You know you're watching an Aronofsky film when the desolation of a character is shown in a rather crude way .
Something that makes someone think! Goddamned rare in this stupid bastardized age!
Great video, glad I didn't finish Requiem now.
please so david fincher!
He's beyond filmmaking.
is there any chance you will do the leftovers video?
FAVORITE DIRECTOR EVER
Please continue this director series.
I have loved Darrens work since Pi and Requiem. I was 22 when i first saw both. Ill never forget
2018 update: Aronofsky's The Wrestler is the midway point between when he debuted his first feature to now. Feels like just last year I saw Mickey Rourke's exceptional performance as Randy Robinson for the first time.
Thanks for this it helped me out so much for my college research assignment lol
Please do Paul Thomas Anderson!I really dig his work.
Pi still his best movie
Nop
He and Fincher are my favorite directors
This guy's a Brooklyn Cab Driver!
And He's Making Movies!!
Tbh, i dun think if he could top his debut pi. The film is a brillant masterpiece that everyone should be talking about.
I forgot about The Wrestler. Great film.
What's the song at the beginning?
Stanford Art students man. Watch out for them they have scary amounts of power. Case in point. Aronofsky.
GOD BLESS YOU
You Know it's a Paul Thomas Anderson Movie IF
you guys should do this with Martin Scorsese, David fincher or Quentin Tarentinio
Let me save you some time. You know it's a Darren Aronofsky Movie if it's depressing as fuck. The end.
Darren Aronofsky almost directed the Batman movies instead of Christopher Nolan. Imagine how different movies today would be?
Maybe Christopher Nolan would have been better making Bible flicks
It would had been something. Darren almost directed The Wolverine. That would have been very intriguing.
What's the music playing through out and at the very end, I can't recall what it's from
One of the best directors of our generation.
magnificent
CRAZY HOW I FEEL LIKE THEM
Please do Alejandro González Iñárritu
Fincher, Aronofsky, PTA, Scorcese, these filmmakers understand the value of darkness.
is that 28 days later theme throughout the video?
Whats the name of the music used in the background? Can amyone tell?😊
I had to stop watching... this is TOO relatable :(
You should do Kevin smith next
Where did you attain such knowledge of film?
it says Darren Aronofsky on the credits
Aronofsky and Aster needs to make a film together
except it's a great video ... i have nothing to say !
I'd like to see Darren tell Mary Bell's story
That guy is a genius
I'm weird... I use drama to see hardships through other people so I can prepare myself for my own future hardships...
Perfect Blue
Can you do M. Night Shamalyan
I can tell you one trade mark without doing a video about it, having stupid plot twists in every single one of his movies.
@@jakobbower4764 plot twist: there was no plot twist.
You Know It's a Darren Aronofsky Movie if you have to take xanax before watching a film
do one for Denis Villeneuve?
That's coming soon!
Its just uploaded!
you need to do gasper noe
He's like
Nolan
Burton
Scorsese
Anderson etc
Filmmakers with Trademarks
Aronofsky Already made his Trademark.
I wonder what his "Wolverine" film would have been like
He should work at DC or marvel though
