- Autonomous, robotic vacuum from Neato Robotics - Neato Botvac 85D. I was lucky to get one of the first Botvacs 85D shipped from Amazon and compared with my old Botvac 85 that died from "bumper stuck" error.
First impressions:
- new Botvac 85D is quieter than the old one, there's much less noise.
- Navigation has improved, far less bounces into objects.
- Looks much better!

Second Neato we have purchased🌼 It’s truly a time saver for the busy mom. You can go right behind it and mop. Absolutely love!
This little dude is awesome!!! He does a great job cleaning tile and laminate floors. At times, he might get stuck, but for the amount of dust and debris that he picks up, we don't mind assisting him. Great buy!!!
Very good review. Thanks much.
I have a D80 as well and it is by far the best robotic vacuum I've ever owned. Good review.
+@WellingtonWX Thanks! Any bumper stuck errors on your side?
+One Monster no errors yet. On my first run it almost fell down my stairs but it's been great otherwise. The magnet wall is a brilliant addition that I utilize.
Very helpful, thanks.
Thanks. Looks awesome I may get one.
Nice review. I have two older models. the 11 and XV21. Looking at your video, they navigate the same way. I do like the brush on the new one. But I"m currently looking at the Samsung POWERbot Wi-Fi Robot Vacuum as a replacement for the 11 unit. Been getting RPS errors 9 out of 10 times it wants to run.
Nice video, but where is the end of it? You know, the part where it auto-dock's with the charging base?
Hi, thanks for the review. what is the Duration time for full battery?
+MagicGuitara I'd say over 1 hour - enough for fairly spacious two bedroom apartment with big saloon etc.
I wonder if some can help me with a couple of questions:
Does this robotic vacuum have the ability to cross overs doorsteps (ca. 2 cm high)? What is max obstacle height it can cross over?
+farideh80 I'd need to test the 2 cm high obstacle, but it seems unlikely to me. It clears 1cm high doorstep with no problems, but 2 cm seems too high to me - it would hit the bumper most likely first before the wheels. I'll have a look though.
What is the height of this baby? I need to know if it is going to be able to go under my sofa. At what height is the laser measuring, i.e. If I have a glass cupboard on a wooden base of 2-2,5 cm is that sufficient or will I have to wrap it?
Neato Botvac D85 or iRobot Roomba 866?
Random question: is your floor wood or tile?
It looks nice!
It's the true wooden floor, no cheap tiles - thanks!
+One Monster cheap tiles? wood tiles are mostly more expensive than regular wood flooring. Enjoy your floors in 15 or less years you'll have wear and tear were you'll have to replace it. not with the so called cheap wood tile floors you speak of. You're garbage mate
+Andres Ramirez maybe in your country - here it's different. I admire your kindness.
Maintained, decent quality hardwood floors will last pretty much forever. Maybe if you're using cheap engineered hardwood, you'll run into issues in
I have the exact same glass table... Did you eventually remove the paper? How was it when you removed it? Thank you for the video, I've placed my order for a Neato...
Yes I did, I replaced the paper with a black 1/2 inch wide tape at the height of the laser - and it does seem to work.
Thanks for the response! I will have to get on that when it arrives... Cheers
I can confirm now after having the robot for several days that the tape does make a big difference on the glass table! Thanks again!
+atomikrobot300099 yes, removed it - no major problems so far, no spectacular crashes etc. they coexist :)
I am debating whether to buy this or a Roomba.
I'm still very happy with this Neato - and it is miles miles ahead of all old Roombas. However - I've seen recently some press release from iRobot, that new Roomba will have different logic and will perform much more like Neato does. For the time being - I can 100% recommend this Neato 85D - works very well indeed.
+One Monster thanks a lot. I hope it really works for pets' hair.
+One Monster also, the bot vac connected is the new one>? or the one you had?
+Togenicha Yavok Botvac Connected will be on the market early next year, most recent one is the one I have.
+Togenicha Yavok yes, it deals with pet hair very well.
*I run the m6 daily, and my floors look awesome🌼 **allabout.wiki/Neato** I wet mop 2 days and dry sweep the rest of the days. When I first got it, I used the included disposable pads. I didn't like them--the dry pad has no depth so if it picks up a chunk of something, like dry cat food, then it pushes it around or drags it around the floor. The wet pad wasn't very absorbent so left streaks and wheel marks.*
Can I remove the beater bar so that it doesn't void my carpet's warranty?
+Elizabeth Hankel never tried that myself - but how would the beater void your warranty? It works like every vacuum cleaner.
One Monster I love my Neato, but there are so many carpets out there that specifically say that if you use the beater bar, your warranty will be voided, as it breaks down your carpet quicker. They want only a high suction vacuum.
Fair enough - you can try to remove the bar, but I'd suspect that would render the Neato pretty useless.
nic po polsku nie ma? Szukałam jego recenzji po Pl - Powiem wam, że fajny ale moja roomba jednak lepsza!. polecam przynajmniej przed kupnem poznac roombe bo działa precyzyjniej
Are you comparing this to the D80?
+mlr1313 No, I compared it to previous model, Neato Botvac 85.
+One Monster Did you use Neato Botvac 85 with blade brush, or with pet brush?
And which brush do you use with Neato Botvac D85 on the video?
+DragonStorm Newname I used standard blade brush, the one that came with the bot.
Stair detection does not work.
He tumbled down the stairs and now the bumper is ded. And impossible to find spare parts!
did you get my message?
No, when was it sent?
The cleaning machines are algorithms this is the exact Sami as the XV-11's, no difference. This is Basically quieter, better looking and: has a side brush. Thats it!
This guy is talking a load of rot !
Algorithms can change.
Auto spelling correction made a mess of my previous comment. Apologies for that.
Anyway, in response to your comment, of course algorithms can change, but in this case they don't. The same algorithm is just implemented using a different machine code on a new board architecture for the newer machines, but the algorithm remains the same. So you are making a general, irrelevant comment.
They used to have firmware updates on their website. I am but a simple man, but it seems to me that something is changing.
2.0 (May 2011): Several enhancements over the 1.x firmware, including a new "spot cleaning" feature (cleans a 4'x6' area), better fringe rug disentanglement, better navigation and docking, bug fixes, and multiple language support.
2.1 (August 2011): Improved docking and navigation.
2.4 (November 2011): Improved on the speed with which the robot would dock, and would now attempt to re-dock if it was knocked away from the charger.
2.6 (December 2011): "Improved docking", essentially ensuring the charging contacts are fully depressed by the robot when it docks.
And so on...
I guess these changes were also available to the XV-11 via user upgradable firmware, but the point is that their algorithms are not as stagnant as you're arguing.
Of course, I could be wrong; I would never admit it. You could be wrong too, but I doubt you would ever admit it. There's ultimately no point to us even talking, neither of us will ever concede, and this conversation will last forever. I'm just going to mute this comment thread so I don't waste the next day-and-a-half of my life.
" side brush. That's it!" How else are you suppose to clean real close to stuff. The side brush is a good adaption
I tend to agree. I have both the XV11 and 21. They go about doing it's business the same manner and they both have been updated to the latest firmware for that machine. The brush is a nice addition and being quiet is fine but I've had some issues the last time I changed out the batteries to my XV11. Keep getting RPS errors all the time. The 21 model has been a tank. But about to step up to the Samsung POWERbot Wi-Fi Robot Vacuum and retire the XV11.
Samsung Powerbot > Neato
+ConceptVBS you used both?
