Cool lesson on how to winch a Pinz through trails on which it should not need to be winched, for the entire video, showing people what NOT to do. Fun!👍🏼
I owned a 1966 ex Swiss Army one in Colorado. It came with stainless steel military tire chains! You need to replace the cabin heater/windscreen defroster in it and windscreen wipers on it with aftermarket heater and windscreen wipers. It will climb out of anything with locked differentials in lowest 1st gear. The new ones in U.S., made by Stewart & Stevenson, cost $300k USD.
I was in the Austrian army in 1987 and the Pinzgauer could drive passages that a soldier could not walk. the small Steyr Puch Haflinger is even more off-road. Unfortunately, the supply of spare parts has become quite difficult and expensive.
@@LibertyOrD___h Unimogs are awesome and I like the old Defenders too. But my absolute favorite vehicle is a MAN Kat 8x8 with the old multi-fuel engine. Diesel, petrol, kerosene, aviation fuel, the engine can take it all. The perfect vehicle for the apocalypse.😆
@@jaegermeister1968 correct, but the spare parts for Kat 8x8 are almost impossible to get. Not that many have been made overall and no spare parts where made afterwards, so army cannibalised some of the trucks for parts already - and that started before they get to the civilian market. So not that great for the apocalypse, I guess... But yeah, I love this truck as well, but gosh, the prices...
Well you know it, when full throttle is applied, it’s time to make place for the idiots who doesn’t prepare well. Gladly the steyr driver did a wonderful job and shows how it’s been done properly
A quite entertaining - an d interesting film indeed. I had the impression that - as actually indicated in one short comment in the film - that some former off-roaders among the inhabitants of a loony bin had been allowed to run loose for one day in their old vehicles…and proved that their permanent stay in an insane asylum was well founded…Hope you all enjoyed it !
I have mixes feeling It is a car that we have used in the Swiss Army I was a Squad leader and have lost a man due to an accident with such a car it’s relation between width and height makes it very delicate that’s one main reason Swiss army has changed to Mowag
Until some decades we always (as drivers) had off road days, to get used in go`s and no go`s. It is interesting, that for example the Saurer 2DM had the better tipping moment sideways than the Pinz.
Oh my gosh. Just like a hot chick, looks the part but can’t perform. you can do more by yourself. I’ll keep my 97 Gen 2 Dodge that way I can go home on the same day because I e done it all. Thanks for showing me what this thing can’t do.
In the army we went off with a Pinz, to the alps in the evenings to find its limits. Twice we dug it out of snow and gravel, jumped several meters through the air..... I haven`t experienced a sturdier and more maneuverable vehicle of this size. Once it really meets its limits, there is the horse the only solution. The only thing you had to be aware is the tipping moment sideways. Therefore it is wise to wear the seatbelts always, not to get thrown out and rolled over.
So the Swiss army had both the pinzgauer and the unimog 404s . They seem like they would have a similar size and performance. Was one used for any particular reason over the other?
The Pinz was used as a personell carrier mainly (or the specific modell for ambulance), sometimes pulling a little trailer for mail, ammo, or other small stuff. The Unimog was used as a personell carrier and pulling the air defense cannon. Also were some used as the grease horse, carrying all the lubricans, used for vehicle service in the field. The Unimog has a much higher ground clearance, was also more sensitive for tipping sidewise.@@ericgenewold
dalle sciocche risate iniziali e dalla ottusa condotta direi che siamo negli usa dove il raffinato Pinzgauer è sprecato. Anzi Polonia, ma il giudizio non cambia
We did these for ten years and had an ace time. Then the U.K. Motor Sport Association ruined them :o( Had hydraulic winches front and back so you could walk it along side banks. So much fun :D
Does Europe have mud? I'm Australian. In a sorta wet part of Australia (as it goes). This is not the same issue. Have you tried a 79 workmate with diff lockers?
I have never been to Down Under, but I have reasons to believe that Australia knows nothing about mud when compared to Europe. Pretty much most of this continent is dirt, mixed with water or snow during spring, autumn and winter, so yeah, I've seen snow there more than once.
The Merc it's a Gypsy car, flash and useless. It looks like a lot of idiots trying to get stuck to me. The Pinz is like a 101 forward control Land Rover, which was much more capable but still don't expect so much...
If you insist on driving in that slop for fun, you're gonna have to put a 6 inch lift on that buggy and a set of BIG ASS swampers. I don't know what kind of power that plant makes but I'm sure it ain't much. However it looks to have the gearing to turn some larger meat than your running. Either that or dump some real bucks on a set of tracks that will bolt onto your existing hubs. Personally I don't see the fun in fighting that gumbo. I'm a Arizona desert Jeeper who loves my little mountain goat/sand boat 1998 1/2 TJ The Last True American Jeep. Outstanding little truck you have! I have a mad love for low gearing!
No drama? It was drama every single time it tried to do something. Have we even watch the same video or you were commentating another Pinzie behind you or something.
@@clooperman3745 Probably the worst ever. No spare parts available almost anywhere,, nobody knows how to fix this truck, if you break down anywhere but your home area - you’re in deep shit for months.

If you get stuck in a Pinzgauer, the Pinzgauer isn't the problem.
for that you have a shovel and a pick axe with it always!
We have these in the Swiss army. I once did the training off-road track in one of these. It’s just a mountain goat and goes where I wouldn’t walk ☺️

You need other tires, for mud
