Random Guy From Texas Who cares what you look like playing it? Your either living alone or with parents or a spouse, neither of which should care if you look like something from a cyberpunk novel.
+Claudio Lluberes Well, the Oculus Rift had people actually design games specifically for the machine to immerse the player or the person, which is why people like it more than..........the Virtual Boy.
I know. I fucking hate those comments. "Oh, wait people do give a shit." I just start thinking, "Hmmm... another dipshit that can't use common sense. What a fucking moron piece of shit."
Back in 2013, I didn't even know what Jack Frost was from. Now that I've played SMT on SNES through a translated rom, I must say that Jack Frost is the greatest video game mascot behind Mario.
4:13 On a real pinball machine you can't hit the button harder to hit the ball harder. The solenoid powered flipper always flips the ball with the same amount of power. The position of the ball along the length of the flipper when the button is pressed determines the amount of leverage you have which translates to the amount of power you have when hitting the ball.
I loved my genesis. so I was duped into getting a Saturn....... which quickly led to a ps1 purchase. luckily my mom loved the nes and played it with me and alone allot when I was younger. when she saw castlevania sotn available on the ps1 it was an easy purchase for her. we spent countless hours playing the original. I remember being 6 and spending months dying at the grim reaper and giving up. and my mom beat him when I was visiting my grandmother. she called there screaming when she finally beat him, and paused the game to drive and hour to pick me up and bring me home so I could finally play the levels past him.
+Mike Labonte I wish I had a mom like yours. My mom and dad never play anything. They don't like video games. I love playing, so I played alone or with friends.
Didn't think it meant THOSE Jack Brothers thought it was some random movie based game And i would have picked Jack Frost because... he is the best Jack out of those, Best Jack playable i guess, Since Black Frost and Demonee-Ho are also Jacks
Basically the story for Jack Brothers is that your character has to make it back to the demon world before midnight because on every Halloween a portal to the demon world is opened. If Jack misses the time limit, he’s stuck in the human world.
I have a Virtual Boy emulator for my Oculus Rift! So far i've only tried Wario and Tetris. The 3D gameplay of Tetris is just too confusing and not much fun. Oh, another thing is you can change the colors on the emulator so it's not red/black if you prefer.
So James, I must ask you a question... how did it feel getting the duct tape off yourself after taping the Virtual Boy to your head? My guess it pleasing.
TheJeding Not really XD You can buy it, sure, but you can do that in the west too. Also, it HAS to be censured, if I remember correctly. The same doesn't apply in the west.
TheJeding I'm certainly not going to deny that (it is demonstrably true). I just find it weird that it was released in Japan, and not in the west, even though it's an FPS game.
I just recently got a Virtual Boy and, I have to say, I actually like it. Hasn't given me any headaches or eye strain yet and the games are actually fun. But I do have to give him credit, the AC adapter CAN slide off easily. Other than that, nothing much else has been a problem.
Amaranthus616 I guess you're right. Didn't think about that. All I was saying is that it actually IS a good console and well worth the money. He just makes it seem like the most worthless piece of shit ever (which, don't get me wrong, he's very good at,) when it actually isn't.

The Virtual Boy isn't as bad as you think. The red graphics don't hurt your eyes, and the 3d is better then the 3DS 3d (but the graphics look bad in non-3d internet screenshots.), and it has some really good games. A lot of people who haven't played it hate it for no reason.
+Kavi Magikarp you are the most pathethic nintendo fanboy ever. admit it: it's fucking bullshit it's the most desperate attempt to do something unique in gaming world. nobody wants to play in fucking red and black right close to your eyes. In a time where playstation exists
+irou95 At least Nintendo takes risks and innovates. Also, I am not a Nintendo fanboy. I just like the Virtual Boy. I also have a Xbox 360, a Tiger R zone, and an RCA studio II. Also, I thought the gameboy proved that, even though the Atari Lynx had 16 bit color graphics, the monochromatic gameboy is undisputedly better.
+Kavi Magikarp Eh, I'm not sure how you can say the 3D effect is better. The 3DS, especially the New 3DS, has the best 3D effect of any electronic device I've ever used in my life, aside from the Oculus Rift. But it's also the most practical. The OR and most headsets put strain on your neck and especially your nose, the Virtual Boy is super awkward to use. The 3DS is the most practical 3D design as nothing is different except for the screen being 3D. And it's full color and plays really good looking games. I mean, if the Virtual Boy had a headstrap and got some more games on it, sure I could see an argument of it not being crap. There was definitely some potential there for it being decent, but it flopped so hard it never got close to reaching that potential.
+Amelia Hartman I am not talking about the new 3ds. I agree that the 3ds is more practical, but virtual boy 3d works in the same (non-practical) way the Oculus rift 3d is, so the 3d is indeed better.
I just recently found my Virtual Boy I had back in 96. Complete with 4 games. Red Alarm, Mario's Tennis, Telernoboxer and Jack Bros. I didn't even know that the game was that rare. I just looked it up and it's going for between $125 and $250.

One way I could've seen this being a good console is: 1) Making it attachable to your celling (through double-sided tape), which will turn your whole room into a virtual reality simulation, and make you the player. That would be a HUGE improvement over it being a pair of goggles on a stand, especially with the goggles causing eye discomfort, since the game is right in your face. 2) Making the controls voice activated (through a headset), and having sensors in the console that follow your every move (through pads you could wear on your arms and legs), rather than having a standard controller. In a true virtual reality simulation, you would most-likely feel more obligated to move your body around, rather than simply tapping buttons. 3) Making games that are in full color (like James mentioned). 4) Having more games in its North American library (like James mentioned). 5) Having more virtual-based games (like James mentioned). The Occulus Rift improves the last 3 things I mentioned, but it won't help with the eye strain. Although moving your head around makes you feel like your in the game, (in my opinion) tapping buttons on a controller isn't much different than if you were to play games on a regular TV screen. ***** Hey i found a way to know who is an alien in in a costum of a human! You just need to ask if they like nutella or not. IF NOT THEN THEY'RE ALIENS!!!

There were only two games I liked for it even a little bit. Wario Land and Teleroboxer. I played the hell out of both of those. Actually managed to fight through to headaches to beat them. Wish they'd put those games on another console so I could play them again.

The 3D would be a lot more in depth, it has the d-pad, the circle pad, and of course the A,B,X, and Y buttons so it has enough buttons for good controls, and of course it would have better graphics (not to mention being in FULL COLOR) so it would be less confusing than the Virtual Boy game.
In terms of virtual reality ideas, there's the Oculus Rift where you control the game by moving your head with the game so it feels like you are looking around in the game
i think the virtual buy does play a roll in gaming history. i think nintendo learnt from it, you know, how to actually fucking 3d. so i think that helped them make the N64
RedHairdo You can check the GT video on it, but in a nutshell: Both overhyped, overpriced consoles that, in the end, weren't nearly as good as they were promoted as.
Demon Slayerelf The Wii U wasn't really overpriced, since it was much cheaper than the Xbox One and PS4. However I don't know how hyped it was or how good it is. I don't think it is nearly as bad as Virtual Boy though
LesserWhovian The Wii U is a good system but it is overpriced; It's been on the market for three years, it's vastly inferior (technology wise) to the PS4 and Xbox One, has no Blue Ray functions and there hasn't been one official price drop from nintendo since launch. A brand new premium pack is still £250 (the GameCube on *launch day* cost £130). You also need to appreciate that 3rd party support for the system is very weak. The tablet is keeping the cost of the system up, it's been a failed experiment so I think nintendo should offer the system with the Pro Controller for a more competitive price. I think this will help sell more systems for them
We're all glad we have your approval of an idea another UA-camr had. I mean, you could have just given it a thumbs up, but you went above and beyond to make sure everyone knew that you, caliatom, agreed. Thank you so much.
Watching this makes me want James and Mike to play some Gear VR games for James and Mike Mondays...Gear VR is everything I wanted Virtual Boy to be as a kid.
Jack Frost is Atlus' mascot, of course they reference him often XD Pyro Jack has never had the spotlight his brother gets, but he's still included Jack Ripper is a loser. Nobody cares about him. He's been in four games, fuck 'im.
I had an opportunity to play some of these games on an emulator using the Oculus Rift and although I partially agree with most of the things in this review, I still think it wasn't as bad of a system as people let on. The system was definitely over-ambitious for its time, but I still had fun playing games on it. Jack Bros and Red Alarm were probably my favorite ones that I played. Red Alarm wasn't nearly as disorienting as James let on in this video and I really didn't have trouble figuring out what was a wall and what could be passed through. Watching all the little people run across the floor of a base while I was shooting at their aircraft in the hangar blew my god-damned mind. I'll agree that Jack Bros would definitely be better suited for another system but that still doesn't change that I had fun playing it, and it had some of the best music I'd ever heard in an older game. Keep in mind though that I was playing these games on entirely different hardware than he was so that could be affecting things.
Fun Fact: Jack Bros’s character roster is from Shin Megami Tensei by Atlus. The 4th character’s name is Pixie. She’s unlockable as well.

Hey, Rolfe! I have the English version of Jack Bros.! Complete with the box and manual too.
This dude is way too extreme for the 90s, he'd fit right in, in 2013.
*watches video in 2016 using the Vive*
In terms of virtual reality ideas, there's the Oculus Rift where you control the game by moving your head with the game so it feels like you are looking around in the game
And so, the Oculus Rift happened.
"All hail the Virtual Boy!"
...not really. Just a joke.
I love how you slam your electronics around lol!
It looks like a sentry turret from team fortress 2
No engineer cryed when nintenspy sapped that sentry
Nicholas B. Spy sappin' mah Virtual Boy!
RED Engineer senty sappin' mah spy!
i think the virtual buy does play a roll in gaming history. i think nintendo learnt from it, you know, how to actually fucking 3d. so i think that helped them make the N64
+The Eagle nope
RedHairdo You can check the GT video on it, but in a nutshell:
Both overhyped, overpriced consoles that, in the end, weren't nearly as good as they were promoted as.
I think this will help sell more systems for them
+Learn Quick The Virtual Buy is going to return next year, as the Virtual Purchase.
We're all glad we have your approval of an idea another UA-camr had. I mean, you could have just given it a thumbs up, but you went above and beyond to make sure everyone knew that you, caliatom, agreed. Thank you so much.
Crazy to see the AVGN playing a SMT game.
Virtual Reality is actually pretty big right now. With the Oculus Rift and the VIVE.
Eventually the PSVR which will be a streamlined version of both
dude, the narration is hilarious.
15:13 Now it's been five more years, and soon, we'll have oculus rift.
well virtual boy is the grand daddy of oculus rift(in my theory)
I thought the red and black looked cool as a kid..
Idea: Jack Bros RPG with Black Frost and King Frost as bosses.
The Virtual Boy is 3DS version alpha build 0.00000000001
Dang boys he played a real shin megami tensei game
Watching this makes me want James and Mike to play some Gear VR games for James and Mike Mondays...Gear VR is everything I wanted Virtual Boy to be as a kid.
If we called it "Bloodworld" because the water was red, wouldn't that make it "Oilworld" because the water is black?
I recognize Jack bros from Persona 3. They reference the characters pretty often.
Jack Frost is Atlus' mascot, of course they reference him often XD
Pyro Jack has never had the spotlight his brother gets, but he's still included
Jack Ripper is a loser.
Keep in mind though that I was playing these games on entirely different hardware than he was so that could be affecting things.
its a shame really...the games are actually pretty good..but the console blows
100x better than the Oculus Rift
i mean worse
Been looking for this episode for 2 weeks wooohooo
Hee-Ho!
Virtual boy was Nintendo's Sega CD or 32X... Useless add-ons or new consoles. They should have just released the N64 and no Virtual Boy.
GameDjeenie atleast it tought all companies a valuble lesson
Mike G it was just a simple typo i made
+Mike G Geesh, calm down. It was just a simple typo.
+Mike G Please, do keep replying. Your tumblr-ness is funny to me.
+Mike G Whatever. You're funny.
There's a few other JP-only Virtual Boy releases
Why couldn't we have the Gamecube or something, ANYTHING but the Virtual Boy in Animal Crossing New Leaf!
The Virtual Boy was an item in New Leaf?
But then oculus rift happened and it was good.
Leave it to Atlus to make the only Virtual Boy game worth owning. XD
shin megami tensei anyone?
