I remember his pistons going up against my spurs in 05 finals, incredible team and player. He fit perfectly in his role on that team. Today he would be considered "inefficient" because of his mid range shots but if you ask me, the midrange shot opens up the 3 and makes the game easier and harder to guard
True, tbh I don’t like today’s all 3s strategy...Rip’s off ball movement was probably the best in NBA history. They are such a TEAM, each has their clear cut role. I admire this Pistons so much.
Can’t even explain how much I miss this era. Rip Hamilton was the fckn king of mid range. Shot was so nice and smooth. All I ever think about when I hear him name mentioned is his ass running around off screens and shit and just catching and releasing 😂 he was really fun to watch.
Yeah but rip did it with the mid-range and his team was more successful in terms of accolades but Reggie definitely changed the game with his off ball movement no denying that.
@@danz1504 I don't think anyone argues about Reggie he's one of the best to ever do it. Rip was special tho in his own way, I just think he should be in the Hall of Fame.
Hamilton was highly efficient, and played amazingly well with Billups. Another thing to mention, even though his numbers weren't out of this world, his team-playing abilities were. Also, his missed shots would later be rebounded by Ben Wallace or even Rasheed. Amazing Pistons era.
More like the CARDIO BEAST that his fellow NBA guard players didnt' want to talk about. How many defenders did RIP exhaust to death? Everybody is talking about his mid range jump shot prowess when it wasn't the key to his greatness. He's more mobile than a standard point guard and outmaneuvers his defenders with ease. He's wearing them down and the more they try to defend and chase. their minutes on the court gets lessen since they're running out of gas.
A lot of players from his era , the 2000’s , said that Rip was one of the hardest players to guard because of them off ball screens and having to chase him around all game.
It's annoying that when i search for top mid range shooters they don't include RIP Hamilton he was a proper king of mid range and he deserves so much respect
Rip Hamilton's mastery of off-ball movement, his ability to change speeds using screens, and his deadly mid-range catch-and-shoot game make him a huge influence on my own game. It's a shame he's so underrated, especially in today's three-point obsessed era. His smooth, efficient style is a thing of beauty, and if more players embraced it, that player will never be relegated to the bench.
I was upset, Chauncey got the MVP 2004, Hamilton with the best pistol, on our team besides the defense, Hamilton carried the team through the season and,in the playoffs, everybody contribute, but Rip killed them with that middle range,he was to fast pull Bang! all day,Best mid-range at that time. Rip Hamilton won in college & In the pros, will being the leading scorer, on both teams. Underrated.
Richard would come off a screen of Sheed or Ben and Chancey would through him the perfect pass as he’s curling off that elbow. Swish, nothing but net and back to defense.
What can you effin do against a SHOOTING GUARD that moves faster than 40% of the point guards in the league and not to mention his stamina is like rated 9/10. Any shooting guard defending against prime Hamilton was brutally tortured. He will wear you down mentally and physically because he moves around a lot and fatigue will get the best out of the opposition. That's why casual fans were underestimating this guy. They said he's like a one-trick pony. Little they did know even Jordan prime against this dude in his championship form would force the goat for a substitution in between because it's just too TIRING to chase and defend against the Mid-Range Master himself.
This dude mustve been so annoying to guard i remember watching him just run around and his poor defender would just run into a million screens and he would just catch and shoot lol
@@zhugelianges I was very young watching rip I remember him mostly with the bulls but shit looking back at the highlight I’m like wait a second I know that man…. Kinda guy to take 7 dribbles and drop 40 still

One of my all time favorite players, I loved his mid range jumper.
I loved his jumpers too
His off ball movement is amazing
Hell for defenders
Some guys movement like that off the ball just comes natural to
Book learned a lot from him
Did jordan teach rip mid range shots?
Best I’ve seen since Reggie Miller.

He definitely should've been in before Billups. Very steady and didn't take about 5 years to become relevant like Chauncey did.

Fast and as efficient as Hamilton
One of the best at coming off screens. He maneuvered through defenders like they were cones in practice
“King of the mid range game”
Nah Mj and Kobe are midrange king
Dude both them dudes punks and get beat up by weak players around the league, please find some people who have some heart ❤️

Easily imo so underrated for that pistons team
He was their most consistent offensive player for a while, dude could really shoot

This is the reason why the mid range specialist build is kinda up to par with the slashing playmaker build on 2k
