I was a trans kid in the 80s and this song had some additional meaning to me in terms of self-discovery, but also finding people who could love me in this world. Whenever I hear it I remember feeling how for some reason, when I had no idea what was going on with me, why my life was so difficult, I remember feeling ok and even joyous, even at a time that I hadn't experienced all of these wonderful emotions of being in love and being loved and loving myself. I felt hope. Thank you for this eulogy.
