Saint Sister is one of greatest musical duos of all time. Both their lyrics, and their vocal blend are phenomenal

    Hello,
I heard this song The Place That I Work for the first time yesterday Saturday 25 September 2021 on Rising Time presented by Lillian Smith. When I heard Lisa Hannigan's name I began to take an interest but I'd never heard of Saint Sister before. I'm not gifted with an especially talented ear for music like Lillian smith or Dave Fanning who are, like others too, supremely gifted in that way in a way I'd love to be myself. I try to love new songs I hear by listening to them more than once on UA-cam till I begin to get to know the song and able to hum along to the song. This has happened recently for me with Orla Gartland's Left Behind. So first thing this morning I was listening on UA-cam to your song The Place That I Work when I found myself humming this lovely song while I was out for a walk earlier.
It's so sad indeed that songs like The Place That I Work do not become hits when this song is just as enjoyable for me and everyone as any hit if only people would listen more often. What happens when a song becomes a hit? Does Dave or Lillian always know from the start if a song they have just heard for the first time will become a hit? For me the test of a great song is the test of time and I'm still enjoying hits from the 60's when for example I was say 16 in 1969. I'm now 68.
Are songs played on the radio to start with such that some songs become hits and played again reaching more ears but others do not. How do the numbers stack up? What's the process? When do the DJ's stop playing any given song the listening public seems not to have an interest in? How is it now that this song The Place That I Work is for me just as enjoyable now to listen to as any other song?
All the best and many thanks,
    Peter Nolan. Ph.D.(physics). D6W.

The day you walked into the bookstore
    Waving cross the aisle
Truth is I was glad to see you
    Though I couldn't smile
I thought about the last time we spoke
    What you said had hurt
Oh and now you show up talking nicely
In the place that I work
And I know it's been a month or two
    But surely you remember
Oh why did you pick now to show up
    Last day of December
And no this isn't a good time
But yes I'd like to talk
Maybe you should stay a while
    We could take a walk
    And I wish I wasn't so nervous
But you put me on edge
Last time that I saw you
Our legs were swinging from the ledge
    Of the window
    At that party
I remember the feel of it
And how fucking real was it
    When we had it all
    And we had it all
I can't count the nights we stayed up
    Talking miles in subtleties
Now I can't bear to catch your eye
    Or stray from pleasantries
And I know that I don't have the right
    To say this anymore
    But I love you
    Won't you hang around
    I get off at four
The day you walked into the bookstore
    Waving cross the aisle
Truth is I was glad to see you
    Though I couldn't smile
I thought about the last time we spoke
    What you said had hurt
Oh and now you show up talking nicely
In the place that I work

Absolutely love this, such beautiful voices you could sing the menu from the chippy and I’d love it but this song is really powerful. We’ve all been there. seeing someone you’ve been so close to, shared everything with, for the first time since you parted and not being able to look at them now but feeling your heart beat out of your chest
