    100% bang on Curtis.
There’s also a lot of fighters who have cherry picked opponents to pad records because they do sell tickets.
    Very hard game

Disgusting. Promoters like Hearn and Warren should set up a fund to help the guys struggling at the base of the sport. How much money do they need?

Looking at the crowds at boxing matches I reckon there should be a fund for boxers fans kids.......this sport is a nest of bagheads. That's why Saudi shows are better.

Imagine the exposure that Curtis would give to this subject in an episode of The Overlap with Gary Neville.
I think a lot of people would be shocked.
Sky would never allow that of course.
    What about Simon Jordan?
He claims to take on the establishment, but Talksport are owned by Sky and he wouldn't do it.
This is really telling the truth in Sport

good video Curtis - some thoughts which may or may not be of interest:-
    1) some sort of levy on fight revenues in the millions to support fighters on the small hall circuit
    2) try to engage terrestrial television and see if some money can be squeezed out that way
    3) the ultimate aim has to be to unify the sport a la UFC, so many doors open if that can be pulled off

Dana was criticised for not paying enough. These boxers don't get paid at all. In fact it costs them to fight. I don't know the answer. The problem is not straight forward it seems to me.

Really explained that well . I follow the sport and have enjoyed listening to Porky and some of his guests chewing the fat about the mistreatment of fighter's rights and pay. You should get on a zoom with him as he mentions tocket deals a lot but yiu just broke it down fir the layman perfectly. I hope things change. Keep talking about it these things gain traction and by discussing with other people you might help the sutuation. Better than sayin nothing.

I guess this is akin to grass roots football, there's such a disparity between the top and the bottom. I agree, the top of the tree should do more to subsidise the bottom. Good to raise awareness on this issue mate, fair play.

Same with all combat sport and sport in general, small / mid size promoters don't promote anymore so they want sure sales ie) Already popular people - " internet influencers ", not fighters per se.

Alot of pro sports are the same, especially the semi contact and full contact ones, like walking a high wire, the older you get the more chance of a serious injury that's gonna stay with you long after your done.

  • @gurney2931
    @gurney2931 3 місяці тому

Very interesting Curtis. I wouldn't have the answers either but clearly something has to be done as the sport will die without its grass roots. I appreciate that you are not responsible for the state of the game but maybe it needs more ex fighters with bigger profiles to help highlight the problems faced by 99.9% of fighters and it might not be in their interests to do so.

Riyadh season is like drug money 💰 sweet and fast but we all know the downfall them Arabs will leave the game🥊 in a complete mess and the upcoming boxers will struggle for even more years like they are now frank warren should start his own season there’s a opportunity for a niche British 🇬🇧 season loads of fights we want to see that domestically

    • @dublinsteve4642
      @dublinsteve4642 3 місяці тому

Riyadh Season is State sponsored sport washing where the Saudi government spend obscene money to promote their country to sports fans around the world. The British government can't even heat the homes of the elderly and there are record numbers of food banks in the UK, there is absolutely no way they would be able to agree to pay hundreds of millions to boxers to have fights.

This is true why I’m always skeptical of the ‘prospects’ that get pushed. Small hall promoters are basically event coordinators. I think it comes down to the top 3% to somehow subsidise the 97% but like you say the takers don’t want to give back. I know in mma the ufc pays the small promotions to put shows on their streaming site and that what kinda keeps the shows alive so the pressure to sell isn’t so big. 50+ ticket minimum boxing a journey man over 4rds is mad. I don’t think it’ll change anytime soon it’ll take someone stepping in like a uk version of turkey al shake. Who’s not assed about losing big money and just wants to see the scene thrive

Not just boxing that's extortionate to attend.
Colleague of mine goes to watch our local national league team every other Saturday. £22
    It's National League ffs!
    Others:
Cinema - gone through the roof.
    Price of a pint...unbelievable
Concert.....see the prices to watch a couple of knob end brothers perform recently.
Everything has shot up across the board.

Bring back Friday night fights on sky sports , give small halls tv exposure for free and help build names and the sport. Like others have said Warren/Hearn etc should be helping trickle money down to the lower levels. The sport will die unless things change.

You need to be lucky or have the x factor. You said fighters who lose too often cannot fight but Amir Khan seems to break this rule. I guess it's because he's a social butterfly like you said. He did well in the Olympics too and everyone likes him. He's just a likable guy I guess. And, although he lost many he was never boring in the ring. But then there's Derek Chisora. He's the complete opposite of Amir Khan. He's boring, unfriendly, offensive. He's boring in the ring too. Yet he keeps selling tickets. It makes no real sense to me and I completely get why you're struggling to find the solution. I don't know...

Mr Woodhouse - I think you need to own your own venue where you dont need to pay the rent money to hire the hall - sounds ridiculous i know but i guess you need sponsors donatins for an arena that can hold a small hall show -a place where all boxers around the country can fight And then you will have a monopoly are the up and coming boxers in the country - A Gladiatoral Arena even teaming up with MMA anything to bring in the crowd that love combat -Thats the only way -You have to own your own small hall

Noticed Hasnan Ali debut loss in a minute. He had so many fans there for a debut it was clearly a ticket deal to get his debut on channel 5.
Saudi money has wrecked the sport for fans. Your getting the elite getting massive paydays now fighting way way way beyond there peak, non of them retiring now. Belts and loses mean nothing to them there is always another payday. When all the elite have fought each other where are the next generation coming from? Saudi interest goes as there will be no name fighters left to fight.

  • @pete801

Boxing is a mugs game. Little kids are sold the dream of winning a leather belt to put on the wall. 99% of fighters leave boxing with brain damage and not a pot to pis5 in. What an absolute joke!!! My mates kid is pro and he can't sell 20 tickets. All the lads in the gym are always on the same show as well. They all have the same mates. So the onus is left down to the parents to pay up 1500 quid so their son can keep winning and one day win a leather belt. Boxing died decades ago.
