This video hits home hard. My fight vs fowler was brutal. Wanted to quit after round 4, hung around until the ref stopped it in round 7 😅 praying my corner would throw the towel in or pull me out from the end of round 4 onwards. Got blue lighted to hospital with a suspected bleed as they thought they could see blood when they checked inside my ears. Nobody rang, nobody came to see me. I had to get a taxi back to the hotel to get my stuff and wait for my lift home 😂😂😂 the side of boxing that nobody gets to see and the guys at the top don’t want to talk about. Great video
@ serious question/statement Curtis and a good debate, as long as you take more from boxing, than boxing takes from you, it’s worth every second. But how many fighters can truly say that? Just my thought process on the matter
@ respect mate I appreciate the plaudits. Others would argue I was stupid and too brave for my own good. Either way I went out under the warriors code. I do believe if I quit/got pulled out, I would have lived to fight another day. Have a great week mate and thanks for the positive comment
Is Curtis trying to rock the Ronaldo Nazario look? What is that patch in the front? Either shave it off or make a trip to Turkey and get the Eubank tattoo! The struggle is real.
Great video !! My problem with boxing is too many brave coaches - I used to believe in you can't quit no matter what but boxing is so dangerous - sometimes it's better for coach to stop it so they live on
You never know what the fighters going thru in that moment, no body has any right to call another fighter/any fighter a quitter it’s worse coming from fellow boxers/fighters
Completely agree, whenever a fighter pulls themselves out it's "what a quitter, they should have gone out on their shield" then when an injury like Nick Blackwell occurs its "why didn't his corner pull him out? The fight should have been stopped" you can't have it both ways and if a corner won't protect a fighter then the fighter shouldn't be criticised for protecting themselves
Good man curtis and great coach too. thats the advantage of having a coach thats been through the fire. Cant wait to see him and adrian at the top of the mountain 🥊
what a brilliant channel this is curtis your a breat of fresh air mate i wish we could see more of you on the main stream media boxing stuff perhaps a sky sports gig thanks for everything champ stephen
I don’t hold it against a fighter if they quit after a serious injury like a broken orbital bone or something like that. Carrying on you risk losing your eyesight, or a lifetime disability. Why would you carry on and put your career or future life at risk? But quitting because it gets too hard or too tough is a different matter I think.
Curtis, I 100% agree no boxer should stay in too long and take a beating with no chance of turning it around. It is usually the armchair fans that jump on the "oh he quit, didn't he" bandwagon. However, I would assume for many boxers, the reason they don't stop is because they know how that will feel in the days, weeks and months after the fight. In one of the toughest sports in the world how do you come to terms with making a conscious decision to quit. That surely would haunt even the most steely minded boxers. A mad game, respect to all involved 👏👊💪
Boxing is a business and the fighter is an asset. Taking a hiding in a fight you can’t win not only risks your long term health but your ability to fight again and earn a living. At the very highest level when there is still a chance to win or the prize is so great, maybe it’s a different story. But each situation should be based on its merits. Daniel Dubois being the perfect example, in the Joyce fight he was badly hurt with an injury that was career and eye sight threatening. Taking a knee from a jab when the pressure came on against Usyk, was IMO a quit. He was one shot away from winning that fight but seemed to lose the stomach for it when he was being peppered. Now he’s a world champion, so for him it was the right decision.
When I was younger I thought any boxer who quit was weak, but nowadays, and after watching many fighters top tier careers come and go and seeing fighters slip from looking nigh on invincible to mumbling wrecks I think 'quitting' is often a good decision, like you say, when it's over, no one cares, it's on to the next big thing and you're just a fading memory, it's brutal.
End of the day, the fighter's health has gotta come first. So long as they can justify what they've done to themselves, that's all that matters. They've just gotta be prepared for the onslaught of criticism that comes with it especially if they have a high profile such as Ben Whittaker.
Technically Sunny didn’t quit, but he wanted out of there for sure- There is a whole PhD thesis on this philosophical issue, a very interesting area of the sport. - nice video Mr. Woodhouse
Fractures around the brain are no joke. I can't call a fighter a quitter, as I don't know what's going on in their heads, in terms of mental and physical damage
Yes Curt, another great breakdown ,,, however I disagree on some details ,,,, I believe a fighter should go out there ready to lay ther life down ,,, to me it's more about having a "real" team around u ,,, a good coach should know wen to pull a fighter out and is responsible for ther fighters safety,,,,,, like you said , u know your fighters so you know ,,, so really I think fighters should take alot of thought and care on who they have In there corner ,,, but ultimately the fighter needs to go into a fight with zero quit intended, that cannot be a part of ther mind set they will loose b4 they start ,,,,,,, good honest coaches is a different story tho ,,,,,,
I think all fighters go in with zero quit in them but as fights progress situations change. I feel everybody has the right to say hey that’s enough for me for one day. Remember this game doesn’t love you so you shouldn’t be expected to love it back unconditionally imo
Boxers are brave enough just getting in the ring. I guess every boxer is risking their life to a degree but there is no need for them to unduly risk serious injury/their lives. I think it's important that every fighter has a team behind him to help ensure the best decision - at the time - is made. There could well be another day for them down the line and they are not quitting if they make a decision to stop in order to come back another day when there are in a better/safer condiition. Sorry for waffling on but boxers are not super heroes.
Buster douglas vs holyfield... That was a good one. But why risk more brain damage when all you have to do in order to get paid is make it past the first bell. A journeyman covering up like a turtle and not trying win is just as bad if you ask me
Sunny should retire and become a commentator after the Yafai fight. Theres not enough big names around his weight in the Uk. When you can't punch like that, the entregan thing on the come up is can this guy do it at the elite level? The answer is no. As good as Sunny is, all the big names will walk through him as he punches like your getting hit by a baloon. He's in the BJS and Paulie Malignaggi type of category. Although tbf all 3 of them are decent talkers.
Breath of fresh air Curtis 🥊
Thanks John
Oliver McCall was a sick man & thats how Frank Bruno won the title

@@badmanharperJust wanted to say that you were brilliant in that fight Adam, true warrior. All the best.

@badmanharper fair play to admit what people that wouldn't even get in the ring wouldn't. All the best going forward champ ❤

I’m hanging on!
Love the honesty of this channel

Thank you mate, that’s much appreciated. Maybe one day
Bruno against Lewis in Cardiff beats the AJ vs Klit.
Trainer has duty of care to his fighter, sometimes fighters need protecting from themselves.
i remember when i first ever heard the phrase, brave trainer, good stuff again Curtis
I have huge respect for anyone who can admit when they were wrong.

Dubois did the right thing against Joyce, look know where he is.

Perfect summery 👌🏾
Death taxes & Sunny edwards on points 😂

great video. totally agree
Always remember Don king looking disgusted when Gerald Mcclellan took the 10 count.
Good man.
Cordina went shit after Benn popped dirty in fact all of the Sims fighters went shit after Benn popped.
Very true
Curtis you're a top Geezer
Thank you sir

Any chance of you doing a podcast with Joey Barton? Would be ppv worthy lmao.
Used to bloody love Bruno & Nigel Benn.
Top man curt my kids still using the gosl i brought them from the pogket days ❤
Fractures around the brain are no joke. I can't call a fighter a quitter, as I don't know what's going on in their heads, in terms of mental and physical damage
Froch too easy to hit. Benn would smash him
AJ wouldn't stand up to a Bruno right cross
Curtis, I told you not to do the Froch Benn video. Do I have to make an appearance son?
Everyone can get knocked out and everyone can quit. Every athlete has quit at some point when they could've gone on for longer or not felt 100%
Bruno gets the W.
All the very best to Liam Cameron in the rematch with Ben Quittiker in the new year!
A good coach should know when his fighter's has had enough
100%
Sometimes you just can't continue.

I wish nick Blackwell quit early against chris eubank jnr sometimes pride can also be a bad thing.
Buster douglas vs holyfield... That was a good one. But why risk more brain damage when all you have to do in order to get paid is make it past the first bell.

Do you still play football Curtis ?
Vets!
@theglovesareoffwithcurtisw8442 I bet the lads you play with don't dare tackle you 😂
Tell the truth
Off course a fighter should be able to honourably quit. Start stigmatising someone who's had enough and you need to Ban Boxing. Good channel 😮😮
