Zelousmarineinspace i don't believe the FC is. I would like to see him as well as Sergeant Thaddeus. However, there are hints from dialogue between the remaining Space Marines that the two had departed on a crusade of penance matching a "Slightly Corrupted" ending in Chaos Rising.
I played retribution first so this went completely over my head. Dawn of war has a much more complex and in depth plot than I thought would come from a warhammer title.
5 Years old but the Karuva campaign is a reference to Dawn of War: Dark Crusade which is canonically a Blood Ravens victory. And then Dawn of War 2 and it's expansion, Chaos Rising where if done "Correctly" i guess? Avitus is the traitor which is the "Canon" ending. In my first play through it was actually the tech marine, which is apparently the "Everyone is super devoted but we still have this scripted betrayal so one of two NPCs" ending. But Canonically as you see here it was Avitus. There is no Avitus in Dawn of War 1.

@ReconTeam111 In Chaos Rising, the neutral ending of the campaign (where you get quite corrupted) has the Commander being exiled to the Eye of Terror. Seeing as Avitus was corrupted, the canon Commander certainly wasn't pure, so odds are that ending is canon.
While content published by the Black Library is supposed to be canon, in the 40k universe, canon doesn't always mean "true". So, the books and the games could both be considered "canon", but which version of events is true is completely up for interpretation. @WyczesanyBober In the Blood Ravens Campaign the weapon you get as a reward for the 2nd to last mission is the Thunder Hammer of the unnamed Force Commander. There is no other mention of him in game.
@Strawngbad Well it cant be Davian, cos as a Dreadnaught he cant get corrupted, Jonah is shown in every campaign in Retribution fighting alongside Gabriel Angelos, Tarkus, Cyrus and Martellus are right here, your Force Commander cant become the traitor, and from what Tarkus has said here, our traitor fought on Kronus with him aswell as during the Tyranid invasion. During conversations within DoW2, it is said that Avitus and Tarkus fought together on Kronus. It has to be Avitus.
@darkpyro75 The FC became the new Chaos Lord or got corrupted by Kyras and now serves the Honor Guard, I'm not sure. Avitus is the betrayer, he's the one Tarkus mentions. Thaddeus' fate is unknown, he's most likely also a betrayer and joined the Chaos Army as a new Chaos Champion. Cyrus and Tarkus serve Diomedes. Thule still serves in the Chapter, though he is killed by Eliphas in the Chaos Campaign. That indicates he's still alive
@coreqek or to serve under the honor gurad. Which reminds me Cyrus can serve the 10th comany and train initiates to become hardcore like him. Martellus can become the head of the tech priest in blood raven Diomedes can be the force commander of strike team Aramus can become the 4th captain of Blood Ravens defending the recruiting world And Thaddeus can become a sergeant serving under Aramus to help recruit the Blood Raven space marines

@agronland It was Avitus. Tarkus said that the man he slew fought with him even on Kronous. So they fought under the command of cpt. Thule. Avitus mentioned it in Dow 2. I suppose that the Force Commander from Chaos Rising, Thaddeus and others were sent on a Crusade of Absolution.
Martellus: There's a teleportarium here. Diomedes: What the fuck techmarine, couldn't out blurt that shit out before? Let's get the fuck out of this ship.
@stickks9875 i think it was multiple endings combined together minus a few dramatic ones that cant tie together. I think the Blood ravens, Ork, IG, and MAYBE eldar endings all happened but the blood ravens were the ones to overcome kyras.
also as I stated...the games storyline actually changed depending on how you play them, so one straight storyline from the book is non canon while 10 different storylines that flow parallel to each other and contradict one another are canon?
It fits so well as Kyras ended up a full blown Khorne follower. Avitus reflected those teachings though his doubt found him wanting. Let the galaxy burn indeed.
@UNSCJohn117 yep, in a thunder hammer's (which i dont know how's called) background the story of the FC is explained "once a great commander that fought in 2 Aurelian crusades ( both dawn of war 2 games ) but he let a brother fell into chaos and is sent to the eye of terror to battle for 100 years (the "medium" ending in chaos rising)" and for Avitus, well he and Tarkus were the only marines present on Kronus (besides of Davian Thule of course) leaving Avitus being the traitor.
Can you imagine, people? After a speech like that, after all other speeches and badass quips and remarks - they made DIOMEDES into chaplain, NOT TARKUS!?!?! Tarkus is the only marine from whole DoW II storyline that has NEVER let his faith waver or wander (maybe also Cyrus - but he is already a forever scout sergeant), he is literally the guy who turned Diomedes from despairing, and writers made guy who was saved into chapter's chaplain!? He's not a talker or leader - he is a warrior, a tool, a commander who wins fights, not an inspiring champion who spreads the word of the Emperor. Like, such a stupendously incorrect decition it makes my badass blood boil.
Awwww. I was hoping it would be Boreal. 'THERE IS MUCH LEFT TO SEH, AND I WILL BREHK MY SILENCE TO SEH IT. OUT PAST GLOREH MEH BE LIES, BUT KYRAS HAS NOT TAKEN OUR ONE TRUE DUTEH FROM US, NO ONE BUT THE EMPRAH CAN TEHK THAT FROM US.'
@brokenhalo2001 Actually if you get the Hammer of the Nameless, it says that it belonged to the "youngest Force Commander in Blood Ravens history" (your FC), and he went berserk and disappeared after Kyras declared him renegade.
@GB90001 Because Tarkus is a seargent his vow made him not a commander but a follower. Its a pennance for one to go under a vow of silence. He can not command for he can not speak. But he can follow orders. Its a Spacemarine thing If they are under any sort of pennance they lose their rank untill that pennance is completed or untill their death and honor is restored. Thats why he can't be the main hero because he will not have the ability to be a commander being under his pennance.
@redeye117 which now begs more question as with if the Force Commander is the traitor then who Gabriel is addressing to at the various ending.. So my best guess is that Avitius is the traitor.. and the Force Commander got promoted to the Captain of the 4th company so he left his old crew to take on the new task.. So Cyrus, Tarkus, and Martellus follow Diomedes, Jonah follow Gabriel. It can be presume that Thaddeus follow the Force Commander.
@TirthBhattachArya actually because any of your characters in chaos rising could turn out to be heretics tarkus doesnt mention a name, however he mentions fighting on Kronus which i believe narrows it down to Avitus or Thaddeus because they all fought on Kronus
@agronland I think it was either Avitus, because Avitus served with Tarkus on Kronus, and he became friends with him during the Tyranid invasion, he was also the only traitor that directly served Kyras in Chaos Rising, so yeah I say it's pretty safe to assume that Avitus was the traitor.
@WyczesanyBober But the only direct mention of him is that hammer, and it seems to state that noone is sure what happened to him. There is the ending in Chaos Rising that you simply leave with Angelos' 3rd Company and are branded as renegades by Kyras, and that happens if you attack Diomedes without killing Galan on Calderis.
Same. I say Avitus, along with Cyrus, are the two sergeants with the most raw power in the 4th company. I mean constant heavy bolter fire with off map artillery as an energy ability? Like holy hell.
@delta3030 well, as far as I know the FC (now the Nameless) was sent to fight in the eye of terror for 100 years to redeem himself for his failures ( letting Avitus betray the chapter), Thule appears in Retribution but only in the chaos campaign and Thaddeus, well he is never mentioned but he probably is with the FC.
@KopritheStormtrooper Probably an exasperated Apothecary/Psychologist sitting in an office in Borealum trying to deal with the many hammy characters like Boreale with his "Steel Rehn" or Carron with "TEH METAL BAWKSES!!" or Gorgutz with one hell of a sore throat or that Eldar warlock with a yorkshire accent or the Necron Lord with Asthma, Emphysema and lung cancer simaeltaneously. He's really got his work cut out for him
when I played chaus rising I got the ending where the force comander is cent on a panince crusade with thadeus for a hundred years and that avitus was the tratior so I already knew that tarkus was the ancent
@TirthBhattachArya I liked Tarkus too. He was the most wise and gave good advice. I liked Jonah Orion too , then I saw that he was killed by Kyras. Did I rage. Took a few minutes to kill him.
the traitor in chaos rising differs with the diffrent campagins i think avitus is the blood ravens traitor but it could be anyone in the imperial guard run through
C Dyar Aramus (the canon name) never served on Kronus - only Tarkus, Avitus and Thule did. Cyrus was on Kauruva, Thaddeus was in training, and Jonah was on the Litany of Fury with Captain Angelos.
Tarkus was indeed referring to Avitus but Avitus was not the only one from the campaign with him on Kronus. Obviously Thule was on Kronus but so was Cyrus, Martellus, and possibly Jonah although I'm not 100% on that last one. Pretty much all of Force Commander Hail gel's squad except Thaddeus and himself were on Kronus.
@brokenwords333 Could have been, but mine was Avitus. As you see Martellus, Cyrus and Tarkus are there in Retribution, so it leaves the other two as probable heretics. Thus goes well with my Chaos Rising campaign..
@MrBuda200 Avitus betrayed. The force commander Aramus apparently is his real name although you name him. Went with Thaddeus back to Merridian to help defend it or something. It's literally that vague. Avitus was the only person to know Tarkus on Kronus though. And to be honest he always showed signs of chaos throughout Dawn of war 2 and his lack of faith in others mainly guardsmen.
@147258502 Your're a lucky one. I like Chaos, Imperial Guards and Orks. Chaos for Chaotic and Daemonic power, Imperial Guards for Tanks/Artillery and Orks for Sheer Orkiness. In Retribution I liked playing Chaos the most. Blastmasters, Plague Marines, Juggenauts, Great Unclean One...wow.. !!!
No Tarkus is referring to Avitus. Avitus and Tarkus are the ones that fought together on Kronus as well as during the Tyranid invasion. Avitus is the canon traitor; just thought I'd clear that up :)

At least in the Space Marines campaign they give an excuse for one of the characters not speaking.
The Ancient is Sergeant Tarkus?
fail at 0:32, you can see the Ancients helmet on the floor even though he has it on
other than that, its a decent cutscene and a clever plot twist
@brokenhalo2001 Actually if you get the Hammer of the Nameless, it says that it belonged to the "youngest Force Commander in Blood Ravens history" (your FC), and he went berserk and disappeared after Kyras declared him renegade.
The other man the Tarkus mentioned is Avitus, He was the REAL beterayer in chaos rising.
Thats why he can't be the main hero because he will not have the ability to be a commander being under his pennance.
who saw the helmat beside the anciant one at 0:32?
Wow for a space marine to lose hope and faith give in to despair thank the emperor Tarkus was there
@redeye117 which now begs more question as with if the Force Commander is the traitor then who Gabriel is addressing to at the various ending..
Who noticed that the helmet was actually on the floor while Tarkus had the helmet on (Look at the bottom right at about 0:30)?
Warning. If you play this campaign with the elite mod, Tarkus will be wearing another helmet under the white one he takes off.
I can't believe Avitus was a traitor, he saved me more than once and was one of my favorite characters
Same. I say Avitus, along with Cyrus, are the two sergeants with the most raw power in the 4th company.
I mean constant heavy bolter fire with off map artillery as an energy ability? Like holy hell.
@BloodDX2
Avitus's reasons for the betrayal is also the one that most resembles Diomede's despair.
Woah, I just realized that the talking head version of the Ancient is the same as for Diomedes in Chaos Rising.
I was seriously hoping that it was Indrick Boreale returning from the grave.
@bonzwah1 He went insane and disappeared after being declared a renegade by Kyras. Thaddeus probably joined him since hair-etics stay together.
@Hunkyfish20 He does, but they're quite shriveled in from his killing a Necron.
This is odd, because in my chaos rising game tarkus was the traitor.
He's really got his work cut out for him
@beastclaw33 no the i'm saying that while he has the helmet on, if you pause and look at the ground, you can see his helmet on the ground
I always thought that the Ancient was Baldeale. Emperor knows if anyone was deserving of a Vow of Silence then it was him.
when I played chaus rising I got the ending where the force comander is cent on a panince crusade with thadeus for a hundred years and that avitus was the tratior so I already knew that tarkus was the ancent
@TirthBhattachArya I liked Tarkus too. He was the most wise and gave good advice. I liked Jonah Orion too , then I saw that he was killed by Kyras. Did I rage. Took a few minutes to kill him.
I was always hoping that depending on how you level him up, he turns out to be Avitus, Thaddeus or Tarkus.
@samwimbush what?its his helmet.the camera goes up and now tarkus has no helmet because its on the floor.whats wrong with that
@TheUberTaco1 Maybe, but the specter of Indrick Boreale shall haunt the Chapter for centuries to come . . .
Tarkus... epic beyond words...
the traitor in chaos rising differs with the diffrent campagins i think avitus is the blood ravens traitor but it could be anyone in the imperial guard run through
The Ancient: No . . . ther is much to say and I will break my silence to say it
Me: Tarkus?!? I killed you in the last game how did you come back?
You're right, I was wrong about the canon status of the novels.
Was Tarkus talking about Avitus or the Commander?
Avitus.
Oh okay
C Dyar Aramus (the canon name) never served on Kronus - only Tarkus, Avitus and Thule did. Cyrus was on Kauruva, Thaddeus was in training, and Jonah was on the Litany of Fury with Captain Angelos.
***** Thule Commanded his forces from Litany of Fury during Kronus Campaign. And so did Indrick Boreale during Kaurava's Crusade.
I wonder what happend with the "Nameless Force Commander". Is he now the Captain of the Fourth Company?
@TirthBhattachArya That wouldnt of gone with my Chaos Rising campaign. Tarkus was the traitor in mine.
The day Tarkus saved the day and prevented just a few seconds before it happen Diomedes to become an heretic and join Kyras.
@MrPaul0y Pretty sure it was Vanilla ice and the Psyker.
@ANGRYMAPLE Thanks for the information where did u got it from?
No Tarkus is referring to Avitus. Avitus and Tarkus are the ones that fought together on Kronus as well as during the Tyranid invasion. Avitus is the canon traitor; just thought I'd clear that up :)
Who else here is more than a little disappointed that the Ancient didn't turn out to be Boreale?
Tarkus is a bad ass.
And wait that means Avitus was the traitor right? Not the Captain?
