Good video. This will be my next lens purchase. I just received the 15mm today. Immediate love. In fact, every 43rds lens I have bought (12-45mm f4 and 45mm 1.8 and the 15) are all highly influenced by your reviews). I did get the OM5 after your (understandable) complaints about it it, but I got into the 43rds/OM system largely based on yours and Emily's videos. It's been three weeks in the MFT universe. And I am loving it. My dear Nikon Zf and FF lens feel like bricks now (thanks to you ha ha). Btw, I am subscribed and receive notification of all you videos. And, I just pressed Join and will start sending you money. Well, maybe you should send me money (with your (expensive) influence on all these purchases). Just kidding, of course. I appreciate you very much. Thanks for all of your great work and your awesome/beautiful/enthusiastic personality.
Since I have the G9II, I never use the 15mm f1.7. My 20mm f1.7II is smaller, slightly sharper and has better rendering to my eyes (more volume in the images). With the G9II, the 20mm has finally a quick and accurate AF even in video.

my old camera combo back in 2016 was Olympus EM5 Mark II Silver and this tiny lens, best combo ever! now i use GH6 and 17 PRO
I use the 15 1.7 on my Gx9 which is my preferred combo I just pic when nothing special is planned. One of my favourite shot is from a white dove prancing on the street that came close enough so I had both the bird and the street scenery. While shooting I was upset not to have a longer lens but in post I saw that the quality of this lens really let the small subject stand out.
I really like the Pana 14 2.5 on an OM10 II: compact, light, discreet, a good image quality, you slip it into your pocket and the speed of focusing is no longer a problem at hyperfocal.
I have had no focusing issues, including speed of focus with the 14mm. You are correct, very good image quality, smaller build, and way less expensive. If a person is not in need of an aperture ring, there is little need to spend more. The 15mm at f1.7 is not going to be tack sharp; thus one closes down a bit, and well ya know, now it is more an f2.5 anyway. I read a really good article in this regard and decided to stick with just my 14mm f2.5. It is cool on the Oly PEN PL-8
The Pana Leica 15mm f1.7 is very sharp wide open. While the 14mm f2.5 is a good lens the Pana Leica is better in every respect except size and cost. I own both.
I have tested both Pana 14 2.5 and Pana 15 1.7 and I can say the 15 1.7 is a beast. Even on the EM10 II it is light, performs superbly and doesn't look too big, nor ridiculous. Being pocketable and easy to carry with on the EM10 II is a joy.
Hi Robin! The Leica 15mm is my favorite lens for street photography as well. It's near perfect. I only wish the aperture ring would work with Olympus cameras. Love the video!
How is it that I have never tried this lens on my GM-1? Great Idea Robin! I have used the Panasonic and the Olympus 14-42 power zooms..I have even used the 12-35 2.8 Panasonic on a shoot,,(lens is heavier that the camera by far,,but gives you a good grip..LOL),,,but never the 15mm. It must be a mental thing with me--I bought the lens before I even owned a MFT camera,,then I bought the GX-8 and they have lived in the same kit ever since. I have seen other reviewers be critical of this lens because the 30mm equivalent doesn't correspond to a "standard" focal length,,it never bothered me and I think that you've proven many times that the image quality of this lens far surpasses it's so called odd focal length. One side note,,if used with the newer Panasonic bodies,,, the cameras' firmware eliminates almost 100% of the fringing you see on shots taken with Olympus cameras,, (same for the 25mm 1.4 Panny-Leica too) Keep shooting man,, We'll be watching!!
The great thing about the Panasonic 15mm is that it is a compact lens that you can shoot wide open and it was designed for 4/3, the Sigma is a f1.4 and I believe that it was designed for APSC and adapted for 4/3 and it makes it much longer,. I have both as I bought the three Sigma lens for the 4/3.for shooting street or when you want a small camera and lens that 15mm Panasonic is hard to beat.
Yea, that 15mm is fantastic lens and I think it lives up to its badge. It is making me question the need to run a Fuji camera alongside my m4/3, as the results are at least a match in all but the grottiest light. I also tried the Olympus 17mm 1.8 and understand what you are talking about. Ostensibly it is a decent lens, but somehow the images just lack the wow factor (I sold mine and bought back the 17mm f2.8 pancake, as I think it renders images that just look better to my eye, and its tiny). Maybe it could be low hanging fruit for OM System to update that 1.8 lens with a revised optical formula and some weather sealing;-)
Hi Robin, I like Pana 14mm f2.5 and Pana 20mm f1.7 MkII on my E-PL7 for street photography. I knew the auto focusing is comparatively slow for 20mm f1.7, but doesn't matter much for my shooting. With those two Pana MFT lenses, I had been persuaded myself that I've already have a combo for poor man's RICOH GR and Fujifilm X100.
Yes! This lens is easily one of the best ever for the m43 mount or any mount. The color, sharpness, and character just pop. It works better for me on Olympus cameras than Panasonic too which is interesting.
@@robinwong I just prefer the olympus colors and they match really well with the leica pop. Plus more olympus cameras have IBIS so it comes in handy for my shaky hands.
A favorite of many. I got one used unit almost one year ago and it has been at my camera almost full time since there. I wish we saw a mark ii with weather sealing on it.
Thank you for the video. I keep wondering about this PL 15 vs the PL 12mm for a variety of applications. I really like the micro contrast, textures and backgrounds of the 12mm, and the rectilinear nature of the 15.
I just picked up a secondhand DJI rebadged version of this lens very cheaply for my LUMIX GX9. I think this lens is going to stay on the camera for a long time to come, as I’m very impressed with the quality of the shots.
Most of my street has been with my Olympus 25mm f/1.8 or my Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8 pro. I have been considering a wider prime lens I think this one will be on my short list to consider. Thank you for another informative video. i also love seeing the beautiful images you share.
Thanks for the video. I have owned the 15mm shortly after it came out and love it. It is small, fast, and takes gorgeous pictures (most, if not all, of the Leica branded lenses have exceptionally good image quality).
Happy happy Monday from New York. Have a great week Robin and Yo thanks for showing my comment but here in NY the where you hiding is in jest and just means I miss You! Plus it means I'm bored and I can't find anything else to watch. No harm no foul! Love the Videos and the dedication.
I feel like theses lenses like this are the heart and soul of M43. I wish Panasonic and OM System would rerelease their small primes with weather sealing since dependability in all kinds of conditions has also been one of their strenghts.
You have only just started showing up for me again. But to be fair I've not looked at camera videos for 4 or 5 months and not really noticed notifications for any of the photography channels I sub to But since I checked out a few G9ii videos you started popping up again😃
I use the Panasonic 14mm F 2.5 and I'm very happy with it. I'm often out in nature and take a lot of nature shots where I prefer a wider angle. And there the 14mm come just right and the pictures are great.
I've got both. The 14mm is closer to an actual 28mm, but the 15mm handles chromatic aberration and purple fringing much better. I can't tell the difference between the two though in B&W, but the 14mm fitted on my E-PM2 is the exact same size as my Ricoh GR with its lens extruded. I just wish OM-System would make an E-PM3 and with a silent shutter, as this would be my go-to pair.
I picked up an OM-5 and a few lenses this year (Oly 17mm f1.8, Panasonic 14mm f2.5, Oly 20mm f1.4). After a few street photography ventures, I think the Oly 20mm is my favorite, as it allows a bit more distance from subjects. If it's a really busy or crowded area the 14mm is fun. I need to work on my zone focusing, though. It seemed to me that the 14mm was much sharper at f4 than f5.6, but I need to try it again. The 17mm also seems oddly soft at times, too, but I need to shoot it a bit more.
Yes of all the Micro Four Thirds lenses, the Olympus 17mm is my least favourite. I normally shoot with 50mm equivalent, so any of the 25mm primes work better for me. I am exploring wide angle recently, hence using the 15mm more!
It's a great lens. I had one in the past, but sold it (I have a bad habit of selling camera gear and then regretting it later). The one thing I wish it that the aperture ring worked on Olympus bodies, but that's not a fault of the lens.
Another great video Robin! I've started my lens journey with the Panasonic 14mm 2.8 and I really like it. I have the 24mm 1.8, Olympus and then the kit lenses. I really like the 14mm the best. It is sharp, compact, and inexpensive.
I also use the Panasonic Leica 15mm with my Olympus EM5 mkiii and EM1 mkii and i agree it is a great compact option. When paired to the Olympus cameras you just loose the ability to use the manual aperture ring
Hey Robin, thanks for the nice review/discussion of the PL 15 f1.7. I used to have a O17 f1.8 and I replaced it with a used PL15. I was gratified that your thoughts are similar to what I was thinking some years ago. I was surprised that you call it your favorite street photo lens when you seemed to be so happy with the 50/25 mm normal focal length for your street photography given your past postings and the video you posted only two months ago about the 50 mm. Just thought it was pretty interesting to see you change your mind. I prefer a wider than normal lens myself for general photography. Thanks..
I did not change my mind. 50mm is still my go to lens for street shooting. But recently I am exploring wide angle shooting more, so I have been using 15mm more recently and find that to be the best option for wide angle street shots.
I went the same path. Started with the Oly 17mm 1.8. I LOOOOOOOVE the manual clutch, it's a shame this lens doesn't perform as great as the Pana 15 1.7 because I would have stuck to it. But I had a bad copy of the 17mm 1.8 which was a second hand lens by the way. But knowing it would have been like rolling a dice, had I decided to go with another copy, my mind was like "NO, I don't have a tone of money, so le's go with what is praised for being that great !". So I tried and chose to stick with the Pana. No regrets.
Well, you re one of the few genuine photographers out there and i sincerely admire you. I have the sense that you prefer, as myself does as well, the 50mm focal length. Can you tell me , please, what is yout favorable focal length? I try myself to use onw camera and ONE lens for everything. I try to declare myself as an , for example a 50mm or a n 85mm shooter. This is how i see the world, and i d like my favorable photographer tell me his thoughts. I appreciate.
50mm is still my favourite focal length that I use very frequently. However, these days I am also exploring other focal lengths, going wider, so I played with the 15mm more nowadays. Nevertheless, every focal length, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, or anything else, has a place in street photography, we choose what works for our own preferences.
Hi Robin, great work you do there almost every day. Since I'm subscribed to the channel, I see something new every time. And that for more than 2 years.....thanks for that :) I'm just a hobby photographer from Berlin, Germany and can't afford all the lenses you present. Not even used For street photography I prefer to use the Panasonic 25mm f1.7 or the Sigma 19mm f2.8 DN-Art. I don't like it so extremely wide-angled. From time to time I also use the Sigma 60mm f2.8 DN-Art in the streets of Berlin, not only for portraits, but for everything that comes in front of my lens. Please excuse me for using a translator, but at nearly 60 years of age I don't need to learn English when I've been learning to master my OMD E-M 1 and OMD E-M 5 Mk.3 for 2 years. Best regards
I am a 50mm shooter, I use that tighter framing for most of my street shooting. However, I just want to explore wide angle a bit more, and it is indeed refreshing to compose things a bit differently!
@@lorenschwiderski Hello.....I have no problem focusing with the Panasonic 25mm f1.7. Neither manual nor with the autofocus. Images are sharp enough. I bought the lens used for around €90. Olympus is well above that, almost 3x as expensive new and used for over 200€. I am happy with the lens
Between Panasonic and OMD Solutions they sure have a hodge podge of lens features. OMD offers some pro lenses with focus clutch and some with out. Some pro lenses have the LF switch while others don't. Some of their premium lenses come with a focus clutch and others do not. Some premium lenses are weather sealed and others are not I.E. 60mm macro is. Now Panasonic is offering an on/off manual focus switch along with a manual aperture ring on some of their lenses. No distance/depth of field scale though. I have that on my Laowa 17mm lens. To be consistent with my shooting process I will probably go with the m.Zukio 17mm when I go auto with my wide angle lens.
Nikon D850 or Z6ii with FTZ adapter and 14 - 24 mm f 2.8 G lens. Dinkum! That's my street photography wide angle set up. A little bigger than your set up Robin but I've never worried about the size thing. I am thinking of getting the Nikkor Z 26mm pancake lens and putting that on the Z6ii though. If I want something smaller I use my Nikon V1 and 10-- 30 mm lens, just depends on how much detail I'm looking for. And if its raining real hard the Olympus Tough TG3
hi Robin, i am new to olympus system and just got my EPL8, considering street and portrait daily use, which lens do you recommend panasonic leica 15mm f1.7 or olympus 17mm f1.8 ?
I don't shoot much wide angle photos. Most my lenses are 100mm equivalent or longer. For me 17mm (~35mm) feels often wide enough and I like it. Perhaps I should use more often my Samyang 12mm f2.0 (24mm). Some images I have taken with it have been very pleasing.
I know what you mean about the 17mm. I've owned it for years but never really got on with it. I love small fast primes though, like the Olympus 1.8s, and I also own the Panasonic 9mm 1.7. I think I might sell the 17mm though, because I never carry it any more. Really though, for the price, both the 17mm and the 15mm should be weather sealed, and neither is.
Thanks for the update on this lens Robin. I’ve read that some Lumix lenses may not always play nicely with certain Olympus cameras. What do you think about combining this lens with the E-P7?
The photos from this lens looks great, but it's $500 new and not weather sealed. Also, the aperture ring doesn't work on Olympus cameras. I'll stick with Olympus lenses, but this was a great video.
You don't have to buy it new, it is quite affordable in used market, and pairing it with smaller cameras makes really compact combo, and none of the smaller cameras (E-PM1, E-PL9, GF-10, GM1) are weather-sealed, so I am fine with that.
Every format has advantages and disadvantages. Nothing bad about using the best tool for a particular job. If people get upset with what others choose to use for a task it is because of their own insecurities. They need constant reassurance that they are using the best. I would love to have a large format camera, but my budget says use the five different formats that you already have. A different sensor size will not make me take better pictures. If you displayed street photos that you have taken over the years, nobody could say what camera that you used to take each one. It is about the subject, and not the tool that was used to capture it.
I think it was not so much of people getting upset that I use other cameras (that is one problem), but what I find weird was people thinking I switched systems, which I did not! Not sure what gave them that idea, or how the assumption came about. Even in my "I Quit" video, I said very clearly I am staying with Micro Four Thirds!
If I want to film everyday life, travel, walk tour to capture the environment and product reviews where I will behind the camera most of the time to do the talking, elements record for game making and I want to experiment music making with singing and instrument too and the video will be shot with a Panasonic HC-X1500 camcorder and Sony A7RV, what minimal multi use cases no show on screen audio setups are right for me, should I get just one stereo super cardioid shotgun mic or an omnidirectional audio recorder to do it all or combination of them to cover stereo and mono needs? That camcorder has an optional handle with LED and 2 XLR inputs but the setup will be tall even before add the mics, is XLR necessary and will I able to use the XLR handle on the camcorder as music recorder? The gear I have in mind are the unique looking stereo Sennheiser MKE 440, Deity V Mic D4 Duo, Sony ECM-B1M, Sony PCM-A10 recorder, Zoom H2n, Saramonic SR-VRM1, Roland R07 and Zoom H3-VR. For photography, I shoot mainly for document life and creative shots and potentially photograph for photorealistic shots, I haven't know how to get photography gig yet, I will use the A7RV to shoot photo but do you think it's for me I should go for RX100 VII, or something in between, but I think there's no much reasons other than weight to get unpocketable compact cameras because you get less handling and EVF but still need to carry with a bang or hang on neck, I know I can get great shots with RX100 VII or Lumix LX10 but I have some photographs ideas that might only able to achieve with interchangeable camera which is full body person with background blur from a distance, ultramacro and I want to try to join competitions. I not a bokeh person but a story and creativity driven person and prefer most of my shots to be fully in focused, and sometime I wonder do I really need to put so much effort into carry these gears when I can just google the photos I want to look at that other people already took, what you guys think, A7RV, G9 ii, GX9, RX10 IV, LX100 ii/D Lux 7, LX10, RX100 VII or something else? I was plan to get the Sony 70-200mm F4 ii with 2X tele converter which can get 1:1 macro and 600mm digitally too but that camcorder can reach that hence it's less needed and just I need to figure out ways I can get more magnification of macro hopefully with a tele lens too to reach things further away.
Hi Robin, why are using Auto ISO during daylight, when there is so much light? I noticed all photos shown in this video have ISO 200. Do you not consider extending low to 100 or 80 when there are brighter conditions?
I have it, and it’s a fine lens, but the angle of view is nearly identical to an iPhone. I therefore gravitate to other focal lengths to distinguish my photos from the rest of the masses.
Hi Robin, nice review. I am using PL 12mm 1.4 and PL 15mm 1.7 sometimes Olympus Zuiko 17mm 1.8. For streets if I'm want to go really wide, then Laova 10mm 2.0 I love all those lenses and using particular lens depending on the mood that day :) Which software are you using for OM-1 to convert RAW files ?

Had the DJI version for a while, the results are amazing but for portability I rather have the 20mm 1.7
Excellent video Robin, do you think this lens which you sold me on would be suited to my EM10 mkII or my EM1 mkIII as a street/travel set-up thank you.
I own this lens as well. I was almost about to sell it though to buy the 9mm. I have the 25mm which I am using the most. What are your thoughts on this?
Hey Robin, I see very fast shutter spds in your posted image specs. Do you shoot Aperture Priority in rapidly changing street photo scenes? Is the fast shutter a result of that? Thx. BTW, I use Oly EM5 Mk iii. Will the Panasonic Leica 15mm work with autofocus, etc on my EM5 iii? Or, is manual focus only required?
@@robinwong Thx. Sometimes autfocus & image stabilization don't work when using other mfr lenses. Gd to know the Panasonic will be fully functional. In the same way as an M.Zuiko. Thx!
Thanks for good review and helpful comment replies. I have been considering a prime in this range as I find the 12 to 35 2.8 a little bulky to take with me so tend to travel with the 9 f1.7 and 25 f1.4 was just given the 45 2.8. I'm wondering what would you consider to be a better alternative prine from 12mm to 15mm with excellent bokeh amd lightweight? I'm using gx8 that was a gift and have the em5iii which i find doesn't get the same results as the gx8 even with better specs. Would an oly prime lens in that range be a better choice on the em5iii?
Thanks for that look at the PanaLeica 15/1.7! I am fine with you, bacause I like this lens too. Especially combined with a Lumix camera that offers the use of the aperture ring - sad that Olympus never did open that feature before and OMD even did not until yet. So the set of a GX9 and the 15/1.7 and the 20/1.7 is my favorite street combo beneath my GM5 with the 14/2.5. I love these small cameras and lenses. It's a nowadays likely forgotten domain of M43.

Yeah for what I do I need faster AF, and especially after I have tried the newer lenses, they were so fast!
Yes! This lens is easily one of the best ever for the m43 mount or any mount. The color, sharpness, and character just pop. It works better for me on Olympus cameras than Panasonic too which is interesting.
This is interesting, why did you say it is better on Olympus?
@@robinwong I just prefer the olympus colors and they match really well with the leica pop. Plus more olympus cameras have IBIS so it comes in handy for my shaky hands.
your photos look amazing Robin....cant't wait for my second hand copy to arrive in the mail this week and pair it with my EM5 original :)
True love indeed
A favorite of many. I got one used unit almost one year ago and it has been at my camera almost full time since there. I wish we saw a mark ii with weather sealing on it.
Oh yes, Panasonic needs to release a weather-sealed version!
Thank you for the video. I keep wondering about this PL 15 vs the PL 12mm for a variety of applications. I really like the micro contrast, textures and backgrounds of the 12mm, and the rectilinear nature of the 15.
I own&use all fixed wide to normal Panasonics: 14 2.5 II, 15 1.7, 20 1.7 II and 25mm 1.4. All very nice lenses indeed!
I would agree with your choice of street lens - I have that lens (having chosen it over the 14mm f/2.5 and 17mm f/1.8) and find it very satisfactory.
I just picked up a secondhand DJI rebadged version of this lens very cheaply for my LUMIX GX9. I think this lens is going to stay on the camera for a long time to come, as I’m very impressed with the quality of the shots.
Same here, loving what the lens can do.
I also recently got this lens and it’s my new favorite lens too!
Oh yes, very nice lens indeed.
Most of my street has been with my Olympus 25mm f/1.8 or my Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8 pro. I have been considering a wider prime lens I think this one will be on my short list to consider. Thank you for another informative video. i also love seeing the beautiful images you share.
Thanks for the kind words, and yes sometimes, wide angle for street is indeed very fun!
Put this lens on a Lumix GX 8 and you've got a camera that feels more like a Leica than an actual Leica
I‘ve been doing that a lot. 😊
That is a very dangerous claim! I don't shoot Leica enough so I shall not make any remarks haha
That’s my combo - GX8 + 15mm
@@robinwongsmart man!
How’s that in your opinion? Just curious as I shoot a Leica and ironically shoot the gx8 too with the 15mm 😊.
I feel like theses lenses like this are the heart and soul of M43. I wish Panasonic and OM System would rerelease their small primes with weather sealing since dependability in all kinds of conditions has also been one of their strenghts.
You have only just started showing up for me again.
But to be fair I've not looked at camera videos for 4 or 5 months and not really noticed notifications for any of the photography channels I sub to
But since I checked out a few G9ii videos you started popping up again😃
Lovely lens... the color is amazing!
Hi Robin, my Pen-F and this same lens and the 45mm 1.8 Olympus for street and documentary photography!!
I use those two lenses to make most of my videos on this channel!
I have had this lens for years and it is my preferred compact prime.
Thanks, it is my favourite now
I use the Panasonic 14mm F 2.5 and I'm very happy with it.
I just wish OM-System would make an E-PM3 and with a silent shutter, as this would be my go-to pair.
this lens is my all time favorite. if i had to choose one, this would be it.... Luckily i don't have to choose one ..lol
One of my favourites since I got it about a year ago.
My favourite too!
Welcome back Robin and I hope you will enjoy M4/3 system again! :D :D LOL JK !!!! :)
No worries, you can always find one at good price in the used market!
Another great video Robin! I've started my lens journey with the Panasonic 14mm 2.8 and I really like it. I have the 24mm 1.8, Olympus and then the kit lenses. I really like the 14mm the best. It is sharp, compact, and inexpensive.
I think you are referring to 14mm F2.5 and 25mm F1.8? Both good lenses!
I also use the Panasonic Leica 15mm with my Olympus EM5 mkiii and EM1 mkii and i agree it is a great compact option. When paired to the Olympus cameras you just loose the ability to use the manual aperture ring
The aperture ring is not an issue for me as I prefer to control the aperture from the camera itself!
No regrets.
Thank you Robin .
Thanks Christine!
And that for more than 2 years.....thanks for that :)
I'm just a hobby photographer from Berlin, Germany and can't afford all the lenses you present. Not even used
For street photography I prefer to use the Panasonic 25mm f1.7 or the Sigma 19mm f2.8 DN-Art.
Are you getting any focusing issues with that Panny 25mm f1.7 -- I switched to Oly 25mm f1.8. Worth the switch.
This is my favourite M4/3 wide prime. Wish Panasonic made more like it.
Any experience using this lens on the GX85? Wondering how it will perform in comparison with the kit lenses (Lumix 12-35 and 45-105)
Nikon D850 or Z6ii with FTZ adapter and 14 - 24 mm f 2.8 G lens.
I'd break my wrist with the D850! Ouch!
hi Robin, i am new to olympus system and just got my EPL8, considering street and portrait daily use, which lens do you recommend panasonic leica 15mm f1.7 or olympus 17mm f1.8 ?
I don't shoot much wide angle photos. Most my lenses are 100mm equivalent or longer. For me 17mm (~35mm) feels often wide enough and I like it. Perhaps I should use more often my Samyang 12mm f2.0 (24mm). Some images I have taken with it have been very pleasing.
The 15/1.7 and an E-M10 Mkii is all I need to be happy.
A very nice combo indeed
love you robin !
Thanks for review your lens, give me inspiration😊😊
Interesting review.
However, have some photos been cropped in post-processing ?
Another question
Can the diaphragm ring be used on an Olympus body ?
I know what you mean about the 17mm. I've owned it for years but never really got on with it. I love small fast primes though, like the Olympus 1.8s, and I also own the Panasonic 9mm 1.7. I think I might sell the 17mm though, because I never carry it any more. Really though, for the price, both the 17mm and the 15mm should be weather sealed, and neither is.
Thanks for the update on this lens Robin. I’ve read that some Lumix lenses may not always play nicely with certain Olympus cameras. What do you think about combining this lens with the E-P7?
We don't have E-P7 here in Malaysia, but I think it works fine on any Olympus cameras so far
How I wish Pana Leica 17.5mm will be in production sooner or later. I chose Pana Leica 12mm over 15mm to pair it with PL42.5mm. Hopefully 17.5mm !!!
I am new to my OM 5, having it less than a month. I see all the samples are shot at iso 200. What setting are you using on the p.s.a.m. Dial?
Hi Robin, why are using Auto ISO during daylight, when there is so much light? I noticed all photos shown in this video have ISO 200. Do you not consider extending low to 100 or 80 when there are brighter conditions?
Never ever use ISO100 or 80. You lose one stop or more dynamic range. ISO200 is the native ISO and it gives you the best image quality.
Great lens - Great shots man… This lens has been on my list for a while :) I’ll have to get one soon :)
Thanks, and you won't regret getting one.
@@robinwong Thanks Robin - Keep up the great work and keep the videos coming :)
i use it with panasonic GM1 and i love it. I don't like to use with Oly body cause lose the aperture ring
It fits the GM1 very well. I am fine with not using the aperture ring, I prefer to control the aperture from the camera
I love the 15mm lens which is constantly on my GX9. Great video from you again, Robin. Are the samples SOOC?
I have it, and it’s a fine lens, but the angle of view is nearly identical to an iPhone. I therefore gravitate to other focal lengths to distinguish my photos from the rest of the masses.
Wide angle, around 28mm is quite popular for street photography!
Nice lens, good video!
Just bought one
nice. i have her two for over a year
Awesome
Hi Robin, nice review. I am using PL 12mm 1.4 and PL 15mm 1.7 sometimes Olympus Zuiko 17mm 1.8. For streets if I'm want to go really wide, then Laova 10mm 2.0
I love all those lenses and using particular lens depending on the mood that day :)
Which software are you using for OM-1 to convert RAW files ?
Had the DJI version for a while, the results are amazing but for portability I rather have the 20mm 1.7
I'd go for the 20mm, if the AF isn't too slow
The DJI version is a complete bargain.
I really like the 20mm 1.7 pancake, as the camera remains somewhat pocketable.
Slow focusing for street use, however.
Yeah, the AF is quite slow
Hi Robin, have you ever noticed a difference on the ability of the camera to focus when using olymps vs panasonic lenses on an OM camera?
I don't have enough Panasonic cameras to test on, but the AF works just fine on Olympus cameras.
@@robinwong tyvm
My only gripe with this lens is that the aperture ring doesn't do anything with my Olympus cameras 😫
Not an issue for me as I prefer to control the aperture from the camera's command dial, I find that more efficient!
Excellent video Robin, do you think this lens which you sold me on would be suited to my EM10 mkII or my EM1 mkIII as a street/travel set-up thank you.
Yeah it fits any Micro Four Thirds bodies nicely, go give it a try!
Hello, This lens have apeture ring and focus ring? then Can I use it like zone focus style as RF cameras?
I own this lens as well. I was almost about to sell it though to buy the 9mm. I have the 25mm which I am using the most. What are your thoughts on this?
Hey Robin, I see very fast shutter spds in your posted image specs. Do you shoot Aperture Priority in rapidly changing street photo scenes? Is the fast shutter a result of that? Thx. BTW, I use Oly EM5 Mk iii. Will the Panasonic Leica 15mm work with autofocus, etc on my EM5 iii? Or, is manual focus only required?
I shoot with aperture priority. Fast shutter speed is not an issue. Yes the lens works on E-M5 Mark III, I use it on that camera all the time.
@@robinwong Thx. Sometimes autfocus & image stabilization don't work when using other mfr lenses. Gd to know the Panasonic will be fully functional. In the same way as an M.Zuiko. Thx!
Hello robin im very new to cameras so I’m sorry if this is a silly question but will this lens work with my Panasonic lumix g4 ?
Thanks for good review and helpful comment replies. I have been considering a prime in this range as I find the 12 to 35 2.8 a little bulky to take with me so tend to travel with the 9 f1.7 and 25 f1.4 was just given the 45 2.8. I'm wondering what would you consider to be a better alternative prine from 12mm to 15mm with excellent bokeh amd lightweight? I'm using gx8 that was a gift and have the em5iii which i find doesn't get the same results as the gx8 even with better specs. Would an oly prime lens in that range be a better choice on the em5iii?
does it make sense to have this if i already have the leica 12-60
😂I got the sigma 16mm and true it's huge. I'm going to seriously consider the 15mm Panasonic which I think is over Aud800
I have this lens and really like but I tried to update the firmware with Olympus and brink it :((
I had the same thing happen with my 75mm. I’m not updating firmware anymore unless I have a specific reason to do it
Send the lens back to Panasonic? I am sure they can fix it
how does it compare to lumix g 20mm f1.7
Compare with the 25mm what's really the difference
THank you :)
This video wasn’t as crisp as your previous 4k ones. Did you record in 1080p, upres and upload as 4k?
It was recorded with OM-1
I thought you didnt like the bokeh of this lens? You said it was too busy looking?
Yeap, I don't like the bokeh. So I shoot everything in focus.
Robin, did you not previously say that you disliked the bokeh from this lens as nervous and distracting? Have you changed your mind on that?
Yes, the bokeh is bad. But I am shooting wide angle, and if you look at 99% of my shots, I don't need bokeh, I have everything in the frame in focus.
I love the Leica 15mm F1.7, 25mm F1.4 & Zuiko 45mm F1.8. The Zuiko 17mm is not a Pro grade lens; the Lumix Leicas are Pro grade...
I am ok with the aperture ring not working on Olympus bodies, as I prefer to control my aperture directly from the camera itself!
