in psych we had to do a project on this. we had to find or take pictures or very short videos. show it once for a few seconds. then have a conversation with the class (adding on key strong words) and then ask them to describe what they just saw. i cant remember anything specific about my project. but the classic example is show a group a picture of a pretty minor car wreck then in the conversation say words like smashing or pieces. then when you ask the group to describe what they saw. they'll say things like there was broken windows/glass everywhere, broken doors, air bags deployed, and everyone agrees with each other. then you show them the same picture and nope no broken windows, no air bags, etc. and the group will be like no! no way it was like that! ....memory conformity. so i guess if something happened over 20 years and people were like no way it wasnt like that!! its long term memory conformity?

I do believe in the Mandela effect simply because of the Pikachu one. When I was younger, long before I had access to the internet or mass influence from others' memories, I remember always drawing Pikachu with black at the end of his tail, and eventually got confused when one day I noticed he didn't have it and thought that perhaps I had just misremembered the character. However, years later when I found out about the Mandela effect, I noticed that others also thought that Pikachu had black at the end of his tail.

in psych we had to do a project on this. we had to find or take pictures or very short videos. show it once for a few seconds. then have a conversation with the class (adding on key strong words) and then ask them to describe what they just saw. i cant remember anything specific about my project. but the classic example is show a group a picture of a pretty minor car wreck then in the conversation say words like smashing or pieces. then when you ask the group to describe what they saw. they'll say things like there was broken windows/glass everywhere, broken doors, air bags deployed, and everyone agrees with each other. then you show them the same picture and nope no broken windows, no air bags, etc. and the group will be like no! no way it was like that! ....memory conformity. so i guess if something happened over 20 years and people were like no way it wasnt like that!! its long term memory conformity?
In high-school a friend did a study on eyewitness reliability. He came into the classroom without warning, the teacher casually handed him something and he walked out. Five minutes later, we got a pop quiz about the details of what happened -- what did she hand him, what clothes was he wearing, etc.

I do believe in the Mandela effect simply because of the Pikachu one. When I was younger, long before I had access to the internet or mass influence from others' memories, I remember always drawing Pikachu with black at the end of his tail, and eventually got confused when one day I noticed he didn't have it and thought that perhaps I had just misremembered the character. However, years later when I found out about the Mandela effect, I noticed that others also thought that Pikachu had black at the end of his tail.
Unironically, I also thought that, but after all I think the confusion was because of Pichu, whose tail was indeed black.
