the remix of the sonic eraser theme unironically sounds straight out of smash brawl, as if tee lopes fucking traveled back in time and broke into nintendo's offices to compose it
@@pikachuwithabellypatch Tee Lopes fused with Mephiles to create the true form of Solaris, then went back in time specifically to remix Sonic Eraser... for no understandable reason.
2:57 That's actually not true! The real reason it was scrapped is because Jun Senoue didn't want the song and wanted to compose a new song together being All Hail Shadow. I got this from a pinned comment on an upload of the Non-Album version of the song. Awesome Video by the way!
One of the lesser-known official Sonic albums is "Sonic Adventure Remix" by Toshiba EMI Limited, a collection of remixed vocal songs from Sonic Adventure, being reinterpreted in a rougher and more techno style. They feel like something you would hear while fighting the metal versions of each charatcer.
8:37 I remember coming across a UA-cam upload of this song. Felt pretty cool because I could tell by the comments and relatively low view count that it was pretty obscure or not very well-known
as someone who spends a ridiculous amount of their life modding srb2 (including most of today), it was wild expecting to hear something that sounds similar to the main theme but not an exact match, then getting hit with literally just the start of the title screen theme followed immediately by the character select leitmotif
I'm so glad this was brought to my attention. There's another Sonic album I found recently called Sonic Remix that has funky interpretations of Sonic CD's music, complete with engrish lyrics. But it looks like someone already made some video about that album.
I recommend listening to the "sonic boom" album. It contains remixes of tracks from sonic spinball and sonic cd US, even even if it's more accurate to call the cd songs complete renditions of the respective tracks (probably what we would've heard in the game if Spencer Nielsen had more time to cook). Anyway, the lava powerhouse remix is off the hook and everyone should be aware of its existence
i'd also like to point out team sonic racing. that game, while being only pretty okay from a gameplay standpoint, has one of the greatest and most underrated soundtracks in sonic history. it's what all sonic soundtracks should strive to be.
@ which ones are your favorites? personally, i'm stuck between bingo party and boo's house, but all the tracks are extremely awesome. hard to choose tbh
A member of Magna-Fi said that they were contacted to write a song for Shadow The Hedgehog, and they wrote Who I Am, expecting that when they met up with Jun Senoue that he would record his parts for the song. Instead Jun Senoue wanted them to write a new song together, which was All Hail Shadow. They later re-recorded it for their own album. (The source of this info is a comment by the official Magna-Fi youtube channel on the video "Who I Am by Magna-Fi | Non-Album Version")
Rainy Savannah from Sonic Drift 2 is a really nice song which stood out from everything else in the 8-bit games imo I wish they'd bring it back in a game at some point
Good stuff man, i was surprised how much of this video had information I wasn’t aware of, I was already aware of virtual sonic but never gave it the time of day it deserved, the SRB2 motif is incredibly cool to hear, keep it up dude!
We have received a vocal theme for Metal Sonic, technically two of them. The more well-known one is Metal Overlord's theme, "What I'm Made Of". But if you're looking for one for just plain ol' Metal Sonic, "Look-A-Like" from the Sonic OVA has what you're looking for.
What I’m made of I wouldn’t say is a metal sonic theme, but look-a-like def could be considered one. The metal sonic theme from virtual sonic is way more perspective oriented like other adventure themes, the lyrics being taken from the perspective of the characters. Look-a-like is more ambiguous in that regard. It’s talking about metal sonic for sure, but if anything it’s from the perspective of sonic. It is close to a metal theme tho, def could be considered one!
@ First of all, holy shoot, big cool UA-camr man noticed my comment!!! 🫨❤️ Secondly, What I'm Made Of is a Metal theme in the same way Look-A-Like is. However, it's specifically for Metal Overlord, a niche form that Metal Sonic has only done twice (thrice counting its recreation in Shadow Generations, but that's the first time done again). Because Overlord is so specific, I agree with you, not truly a Metal Sonic theme like the other two are. Just thought it was worth bringing up. Just remembered you said we hadn't received a vocal theme BEFORE, so that definitely disqualifies W.I.M.O. Third of all, although Look-A-Like can be told from Sonic's perspective, it's way more from Metal's perspective. "A short while ago, I was born" implies the recent creation of Metal Sonic. While Sonic is still young, especially in the 90s era, he's still much older than Metal. He has his own home, multiple friends, is on friendly terms with the President (and a little too friendly with President's daughter), and has even been fighting Robotnik for a while. Meanwhile, Metal Sonic was created shortly before the start of the film, and wasn't completed/activated with Sonic's data until well into the plot. Look-A-Like also qualifies as "before" Virtual Metal, as the Sonic OVA was released to retail on May 31st, 1996, while Virtual Sonic came out August 20th of the same year. Kinda crazy how close they are together, 1996 was a good year for Metal Sonic! Not like they can't coexist, and Sonic Team should really consider using both themes for different projects. After all, Sonic has 2 versions of It Doesn't Matter, and also has His World. Shadow has Throw It All Away, All Hail Shadow, and (I Am) All of Me. Come to think of it, not using a Metal Theme from *Virtual* Sonic in Sonic Forces was such a missed opportunity (of course, Forces has plenty of those, as illustrated by this video).
I love watching these types of videos as I'm doing a project of compiling all sonic songs in the franchise in the highest quality i can get so yeah, heard em all in here, heh Great video!
I'm going to bring up the Sonic the Hedgehog Boom album from 1994 here, which has some remixes from Sonic Spinball (some of which were actually played here) as well as modified versions of tracks from the US version of Sonic CD. Sonic Boom - Opening Theme in particular has an additional section that plays after the point the song would normally end, it's pretty good.
I literally based my own Toxic Caves arrangement off the one from Virtual Sonic, that version goes so hard and resonates with me on like, a spiritual level. ...I should upload it some time.
This is probably gonna be the most obscure one yet. In the Saturn version of Sonic 3D Blast, Knuckles' Special Stage was suppose to have a different theme instead of it being the usual Special Stage theme. This track would later be remixed as "Twinkle Park" from Sonic Adventure.
I don't really understand still what happened with SoaDM but I think it would've been worth mentioning after that fell apart some of the members reformed into A2 and they made Chosen One, which was used in Shadow in place of Broken. Also Virtual Sonic was released in a collection of five Sega remix albums, the others being Comix Zone, X-men 2, Toejam and Earl, and Vectorman. Comix Zone is also by Drossin, and the Toejam album is really funky and jazzy, easily my favorite one.

Also Virtual Sonic Album is goated it's one of my favourite underated Sonic Albums out there. Thank you for bringing up this album it's so good, Chaos Jam is such a banger!!
Chaos Jam: to me sounds alot like weridly, the intro to Mater's Tall Tales on the Wii, I guess because country rock. KnucklesMania: Trible sounding theme, I can just picture the Echidna Tribe playing this (also it was trible style horn not a fallout siren) Metal Sonic: Sonic Ova vibes from this, etiher in Sonic's boom-box or flying in the tornado. Sonic Spinball: was played in the Macy's parade so it sound like somthing you play at a celebartion or something. City in the Sky: Meet me in bed LOL
I'm going to throw in my own hat into the ring when it comes to obscure _Sonic_ music! 1) _Up On The Green Hill_ Arguably the least obscure of any of these songs I'm mentioning, and that says a lot. This song is essentially an official lyrical version of the Green Hill theme, produced by Masato Nakamura, and sung by both him and Miwa Yoshida. And even then, this is technically the second time the Green Hill theme gets lyrics, the first being the Dreams Come True song _Marry Me?_ from the album _SING OR DIE._ The song has two different instrumentation styles, those being the slower-paced "DCT" version, and the fast-paced, game-accurate "MASADO and MIWASCO" version. Additionally, the song has lyrics in both Japanese and English, with the "MASADO and MIWASCO" version applying autotune to the vocals, and there are instrumental versions of both the "DCT" and "MASADO and MIWASCO" version, making for six versions of the song. This song was actually announced all the way back in the _Sonic 30th Anniversary Symphony,_ where during the intermission segment of the concert, Masato Nakamura announced this then-upcoming lyrical remix, and even lampshaded how not a lot of people even recognize him as the music composer for both _Sonic 1_ & _2._ Not only that, but _Up On The Green Hill_ was supposedly used as the credits theme for the Japanese release of the film _Sonic the Hedgehog 2,_ known in Japan as _Sonic the Movie 2/Sonic vs. Knuckles._ Want to get even more obscure? Dreams Come True also published an album titled _DREAMS COME TRUE MUSIC BOX Vol.6.5 - Green Hill -, which was an album containing Christmas music box-style remixes of their 2022 discography, with Up On The Green Hill being one of the remixed songs. 2) The entirety of _Sonic the Hedgehog Tribute_ This album was produced by Dreams Come True and published by Universal Music Group in promotion of Sonic the Movie 2's release in Japan, featuring remixes of various songs from _Sonic 1_ & _2_ performed by different artists. Sadly, despite being available worldwide thanks to music streaming services, this album fell into obscurity due to only being promoted in Japan. The songs included were: 1. A rerelease of _Up On The Green Hill_ 2. _Sonic Special Stage (PKCZ REMIX)_ This remix of the _Sonic 2_ Special Stage was composed by PKCZ, and it sounds like a song that Hideki Naganuma would compose for _Sonic Rush_ with all of those vocal samples that spells out Sonic's name! 3. _Green Hill Zone (Banvox Version)_ This is simply a remix of the Green Hill theme, composed by Banvox. Nothing too special to note here. 4. _Follow The Wind (Casino Night Zone)_ This is a slow-paced, melancholic lyrical remix of the Casino Night theme composed by WONK. It's pretty easy to forget that this even is a remix of the Casino Night theme, though. That said, the lyrics also throw in a cheeky reference to the ending of _Sonic and the Secret Rings._ 5. _Scrap Brain Zone_ This is a traditional Japanese-style remix of Scrap Brain Zone composed by Daisuke Kaminaga and Famikoto. Not too much else to note, other than the remix ending with the _Sonic 1_ title jingle. 6. _Faster Than Light (Star Light Zone)_ This is a lyrical remix of Star Light Zone by Vickeblanka, simple as that. Also, it's quite hilarious how the song also throws in the line "I am speed" in an official _Sonic_ song! 7. _Game Result (kz covered)_ This is a remix of the _Sonic the Hedgehog 2_ Results theme composed by kz. Nothing too special to note here, other than the remix being easy to mistake for Tee Lopes' work. 8. _SWEET DREAM (MASADO and MIWASCO Version)_ This is a remix of _SWEET DREAM_ by DCT, taking inspiration from the 06 AKON MIX featured in _Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)._ 3) _Fly Without Wings_ This is a song produced by the Japanese singer SKY-HI to promote the Japanese release of _Sonic the Movie 2._ This song officially samples _Up On The Green Hill_ in both the song's note structure, and vocals from the original _Up On The Green Hill_ song. 4) _Hongami Precious Moment_ This is a song composed by Tomoya Ohtani and sung by Inugami Korone of hololive production. The song was conceptualized by Korone herself during the July 2024 broadcast of _Sonic Station Live!,_ and served as the promotional song for the _SoniKoro2024 Private Korone Academy Wonderful Dream Festival._ Quite notable for basically being both a _Sonic the Hedgehog_ song and a hololive song. This even had an animated music video starring both Korone herself and Sonic the Hedgehog! (For those who don't know, Inugami Korone is a Virtual UA-camr from the talent agency hololive production, and became an official brand ambassador for the _Sonic the Hedgehog_ series in 2022.) (Man, could you imagine if the Japanese release of _Sonic the Hedgehog 3_ has _Hongami Precious Moment_ play as the credits theme? Sure beats Jelly Roll's rather infamous song, wouldn't it?)

Same thing with Magna-Fi, maybe they woulda still existed if they made this song for the purple wonder rather than the black blur. Who I am can be shared between Raymesis & Shadow, too bad shit’s copyrighted.
have you ever heard the demos for open your heart? one of them is sung by eizo sakamoto while the other is by kenichi tokoi with entirely different lyrics. theyre.... pretty rough, especially the latter, but they do give me a newfound appreciation for the final product as ive never been the biggest fan of open your heart
Other obscure songs from Sonic Music: -A Sonic 2 unused song present in the Official Album -Sonic Adventure Remix Album: Full of dark syinth sounding remixes that I'mn ot a big fan of. -The Sonic asnd Knuckles official remastered album from 1994 that sounds wierd but still like it for the most part. -The Sega Club Albums remixes -The unusued track from the Sonic The Fighters OST "Sunset Town" -The Open Your Heart K-Club remix (So good) -Some other unused beta tracks/Remixes from Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog -Wortth a Chance (Original Version) And problably more I can't think of right now.
i made a video on a similar/overlapping topic about specifically 90's sonic albums awhile ago, so it's cool to see someone else make something similar ^_^
Goddamnit i already knew these D: I'd reccomend a few albums & osts if anyone is wanting more - Sonic 1994: a collection of drastic remixes and some original tracks of Sonic CD's Japanese soundtrack - Sonic 3 & Knuckles' Album: Not as known but still it features extended versions of the S3K soundtrack with some unused parts that rock - Sonic R: do i need to explain myself?? - There is a alternate intro for Sonic Mania, idk if its used in promotional material but its refered to as introtee (Tee Lopes??) - Again on Sonic Mania there is a pinch version of Egg Reverie that goes unused - While Shadow the Hedgehog was mentioned i don't think many people who haven't played the game tried out the soundtrack outside of the lyrical tracks, and for better or worse the cutscenes have unique music scores that are unfortunately cut short... - Daytona USA Deluxe (PC) made by the same people who made Sonic 3D Blast Saturn/Sonic R & some other composers. Bringing it up coz the original and this have some great songs

KnucklesMania: Trible sounding theme, I can just picture the Echidna Tribe playing this (also it was trible style horn not a fallout siren)
Metal Sonic: Sonic Ova vibes from this, etiher in Sonic's boom-box or flying in the tornado.
Sonic Spinball: was played in the Macy's parade so it sound like somthing you play at a celebartion or something.
City in the Sky: Meet me in bed LOL
CHAOS JAM FINALLY GETTING SOME LOVE!!! ❤❤🥳🥳
I'm going to throw in my own hat into the ring when it comes to obscure _Sonic_ music!
1) _Up On The Green Hill_
Arguably the least obscure of any of these songs I'm mentioning, and that says a lot. This song is essentially an official lyrical version of the Green Hill theme, produced by Masato Nakamura, and sung by both him and Miwa Yoshida. And even then, this is technically the second time the Green Hill theme gets lyrics, the first being the Dreams Come True song _Marry Me?_ from the album _SING OR DIE._
The song has two different instrumentation styles, those being the slower-paced "DCT" version, and the fast-paced, game-accurate "MASADO and MIWASCO" version. Additionally, the song has lyrics in both Japanese and English, with the "MASADO and MIWASCO" version applying autotune to the vocals, and there are instrumental versions of both the "DCT" and "MASADO and MIWASCO" version, making for six versions of the song.
This song was actually announced all the way back in the _Sonic 30th Anniversary Symphony,_ where during the intermission segment of the concert, Masato Nakamura announced this then-upcoming lyrical remix, and even lampshaded how not a lot of people even recognize him as the music composer for both _Sonic 1_ & _2._
Not only that, but _Up On The Green Hill_ was supposedly used as the credits theme for the Japanese release of the film _Sonic the Hedgehog 2,_ known in Japan as _Sonic the Movie 2/Sonic vs. Knuckles._
Want to get even more obscure? Dreams Come True also published an album titled _DREAMS COME TRUE MUSIC BOX Vol.6.5 - Green Hill -, which was an album containing Christmas music box-style remixes of their 2022 discography, with Up On The Green Hill being one of the remixed songs.
2) The entirety of _Sonic the Hedgehog Tribute_
This album was produced by Dreams Come True and published by Universal Music Group in promotion of Sonic the Movie 2's release in Japan, featuring remixes of various songs from _Sonic 1_ & _2_ performed by different artists. Sadly, despite being available worldwide thanks to music streaming services, this album fell into obscurity due to only being promoted in Japan.
The songs included were:
1. A rerelease of _Up On The Green Hill_
2. _Sonic Special Stage (PKCZ REMIX)_
This remix of the _Sonic 2_ Special Stage was composed by PKCZ, and it sounds like a song that Hideki Naganuma would compose for _Sonic Rush_ with all of those vocal samples that spells out Sonic's name!
3. _Green Hill Zone (Banvox Version)_
This is simply a remix of the Green Hill theme, composed by Banvox. Nothing too special to note here.
4. _Follow The Wind (Casino Night Zone)_
This is a slow-paced, melancholic lyrical remix of the Casino Night theme composed by WONK. It's pretty easy to forget that this even is a remix of the Casino Night theme, though. That said, the lyrics also throw in a cheeky reference to the ending of _Sonic and the Secret Rings._
5. _Scrap Brain Zone_
This is a traditional Japanese-style remix of Scrap Brain Zone composed by Daisuke Kaminaga and Famikoto. Not too much else to note, other than the remix ending with the _Sonic 1_ title jingle.
6. _Faster Than Light (Star Light Zone)_
This is a lyrical remix of Star Light Zone by Vickeblanka, simple as that. Also, it's quite hilarious how the song also throws in the line "I am speed" in an official _Sonic_ song!
7. _Game Result (kz covered)_
This is a remix of the _Sonic the Hedgehog 2_ Results theme composed by kz. Nothing too special to note here, other than the remix being easy to mistake for Tee Lopes' work.
8. _SWEET DREAM (MASADO and MIWASCO Version)_
This is a remix of _SWEET DREAM_ by DCT, taking inspiration from the 06 AKON MIX featured in _Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)._
3) _Fly Without Wings_
This is a song produced by the Japanese singer SKY-HI to promote the Japanese release of _Sonic the Movie 2._ This song officially samples _Up On The Green Hill_ in both the song's note structure, and vocals from the original _Up On The Green Hill_ song.
4) _Hongami Precious Moment_
This is a song composed by Tomoya Ohtani and sung by Inugami Korone of hololive production.
(For those who don't know, Inugami Korone is a Virtual UA-camr from the talent agency hololive production, and became an official brand ambassador for the _Sonic the Hedgehog_ series in 2022.)
(Man, could you imagine if the Japanese release of _Sonic the Hedgehog 3_ has _Hongami Precious Moment_ play as the credits theme? Sure beats Jelly Roll's rather infamous song, wouldn't it?)
I was so ready to be like ehhh only fake fans wouldn't know these songs but there was at least 3 songs here I haven't heard before. Good stuff
6:28 Jakob elevator from Megaman X8? Is that you?!
Virtual sonic, the album that held a legendary intro...
THE THEME OF SONIC ROBO FUCKING BLAST 2
Edit: another unheard album is sonic arcade, wich is also referenced on the first sonic robo blast
2:19 these bands sound like they would have been better off making music for Rayman 3 instead.
Or even music for RAYMAN 4 BABY!
BOOGIE YEAH BABY RAYMAN’S BETTER! C’MON GET MADDER, MADDER, MADDER!
Same thing with Magna-Fi, maybe they woulda still existed if they made this song for the purple wonder rather than the black blur.
Okay to be fr; yeah these songs have textures I’d expect more from sonic cd or even the rayman franchise, a lot more funk & slot more acoustics than straight rock.
Other obscure songs from Sonic Music:
-A Sonic 2 unused song present in the Official Album
-Sonic Adventure Remix Album: Full of dark syinth sounding remixes that I'mn ot a big fan of.
-The Sonic asnd Knuckles official remastered album from 1994 that sounds wierd but still like it for the most part.
-The Sega Club Albums remixes
-The unusued track from the Sonic The Fighters OST "Sunset Town"
-The Open Your Heart K-Club remix (So good)
-Some other unused beta tracks/Remixes from Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog
-Wortth a Chance (Original Version)
And problably more I can't think of right now.
i made a video on a similar/overlapping topic about specifically 90's sonic albums awhile ago, so it's cool to see someone else make something similar ^_^
People should listen to sea bottom segue
i just sampled city in the clouds from virtual sonic in my last album
Egg man. revenge sounds like Tony Hawk pro skater music.
I like the shadow, the hedgehog, unused songs.
I like the sonic forces music already.
sins of a divine mother slander 😢
Does anyone knows from were the metal sonic song comes from?!
I found it! It's from Virtual sonic for everyone who wants to hear it.
Yea, I said that like, when I was talking the album?? PAY ATTENTION!!!!!!!
Drop the sauce to those songs, good sir
@@acronym.4328 I gave the name of em, u can look em up
Goddamnit i already knew these D:
I'd reccomend a few albums & osts if anyone is wanting more
- Sonic 1994: a collection of drastic remixes and some original tracks of Sonic CD's Japanese soundtrack
- Sonic 3 & Knuckles' Album: Not as known but still it features extended versions of the S3K soundtrack with some unused parts that rock
- Sonic R: do i need to explain myself??
- There is a alternate intro for Sonic Mania, idk if its used in promotional material but its refered to as introtee (Tee Lopes??)
- Again on Sonic Mania there is a pinch version of Egg Reverie that goes unused
- While Shadow the Hedgehog was mentioned i don't think many people who haven't played the game tried out the soundtrack outside of the lyrical tracks, and for better or worse the cutscenes have unique music scores that are unfortunately cut short...
- Daytona USA Deluxe (PC) made by the same people who made Sonic 3D Blast Saturn/Sonic R & some other composers. Bringing it up coz the original and this have some great songs
Not me! Im autistic about sonic and a music freak! i know these! Ive even listened to the bonus remixes that came with sa1's official CD music release! Ive got a rip of the CD's on my pc personally :3

The US tracks even from Sonic CD sound too ahead of the time curve lol. Not that it's bad
Why don't you collect any rings when you run into them in the sonic generations gameplay?
