26:02 Thomas - I've only done one event so still fairly new. The question I would ask is probably what is a good way to find plot hooks for your character to engage in and pursue? Like I ended up working with a leagues man who was researching bite for a little while which was fun but I didn't manage to get my character properly involved with that just yet.
36:13 Sally - What would be advisable to do if you get to Anvil and at time in after your nations welcoming /Earls Council/Standing etc etc you feel lost? Especially if your egregores are too busy to help you?

I've been watching your videos for years Rick and just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you for all the entertainment and education you've given us. Up until your videos about it I had never heard of LARP but by watching these videos you've intrigued me and with the help of your new friends given me an understanding I probably wouldn't have got elsewhere. Awesome vid Rick, glad my question came up - very informative for new players!
A small correction to what was said on Eternals and Heralds - player characters do sometimes encounter actual Eternals, in special set-up meetings that we (Plot) run, but meeting an Eternal itself is far rarer than encountering one of its Heralds.
E3 was my first event was so much fun but i believe these are very helpful
What was wired for me was on my first time “in anvil” I ran into lots of you tubers by accident (in Dawn and Wintermark (the Tabletop weekly guys and You Larp) ) whilst I was trying to find Highguard (which is half way across field!).
A minor correction to the video, please be aware that you can only use the Apprentice skill if your character has spent zero of their XP. It was designed for kids (who don't spend XP until they pass their citizenship test), adults can use it, but not once they start gaining their own in-game skills :)

E3 was my first event and i can confirm that my first nigh was spent on a pub crawl. Started as a lone leaguer and by the ned of the night i was having a drunk duel in the middle of the glory square at midnight. Never gonna forget that first night

Another great informative video. I took quite a bit away from it. Especially the bit about working in the virtues. When I created House de Loup I decided they would take a lot if inspiration from wolves (it's our name after all), our house motto ended up being "We fight as one" which was to symbolize the pack. So I'm going to try and work the loyalty virtue into the house and my character, it might give Earl Bertrand a bit more drive.
I'm totally bringing earplugs with me to E4. Not due to the rammy coming from the camp, but to block out those damnable geese. Every hour there was a loud honk followed by a huge splash, very unconducive for getting a good nights sleep.
Love the idea for your house! It would not surprise me if there's a heavy Draughir ratio in there XD Loyalty is great virtue to explore and I hope you share your adventures with us somewhere so I can hear of what you all get up to.

Empire had 4 events a year, and there are other systems you can try such as the Lorien Trust and Curious Pastimes.

BigChickenChief HD There’s definitely a large amount of student aged people! There is also a student rate for the ticket if you bring valid ID.
The best nation very much depends on your taste and goals, the Nation briefs are all beautifully unique, so go and have a read of all of them before you decide :)

Who writes your characters script for your first larp and does the script get changed each larp?
Werejusdoinit there is no script as such. You can write your own backstory for your character, there is plenty of history and lore to base it on :)

Hi Rick. Nice video. Role play is not my cup of tea, but are these events recorded on video? I have no clue what the roleplayers are doing all day at these events.
daytona1212 oh no that’s taboos. That would take everything out of character and once you are in LARP you were in a world where people must stay in character. Recording devices telephones etc. I believe are totally prohibited.
daytona1212 werejusdoinit is correct, there are no cameras allowed during time-in. Everyone has their own story that plays out and progresses during the game. The key is to enjoy the immersion of being your character within this amazing setting.

I would love a diverse reaction to how race, gender, and sexuality are handled in the community - there are regular dust-ups over the topics, usually after someone has been particularly disgusting, and we seem in the US at least, to just spin our wheels and get nowhere.
Also, I love that you use the OK Check In system!
I don't feel I could speak for the treatment of race in the game (very white haha) but as a bisexual person I feel LRP is a very open and welcoming community. Empire is especially good, as in the rules there's no gender bias. They have also welcomed schemes like the pronoun badges for non-binary and trans people.
Non-binary person here, who is also polyamorous and pansexual, I read as white, but I'm not white. Empire is very civilised and enlightened in regards to people like me; but Empire **started** with equality as one of its cornerstones. If you're starting a LARP system, build equality into the game from the onset; and be very intolerant about bigots getting to run loose and ruin the game for people who aren't white, cisgender, heterosexual, and/or serial monogamous. If you are white, cisgender, heterosexual and/or serial monogamous, be an ally, and tell the offensive bigot to knock it off, and then report them to the game organisers/security. Call them out on their bigoted behaviour.
