- This raccoon may be cute, but that’s not enough to convince Austin to share. Austin realizes both pizza and human contact aren’t the best choice for a raccoon, so he gently encourages his visitor to go back into the woods.

Like my buddy said, it starts with a crust of pizza, but you’ll be supporting him within a week. Raccoon aren’t going to stop being aggressive if you feed them.

He didn't look too scrawny. It was a juvenile male and some of them get *very* brave around that age. And no, the crust wouldn't have hurt the raccoon. They can eat almost anything.

You DO NOT want these clever animals to start associating your home with food....A few years ago I fed one hungry racoon some chips I had, then the next day 3 racoons were outside my porch...and as time went by more and more were waiting in my porch waiting to be fed until I had to be stern and keep chasing them all away I dont know how but they have a way of communicating to each other where a place for food is...

I wouldn't be surprised if this raccoon was rehabilitated and released. He or she has absolutely no fear, and if that's the case, then maybe perhaps it should have been kept or put in a sanctuary. That said, no way could i have said no. I would have been laughing too hard at the fact that he very politely sat at the table and just helped himself 😅

This is so not so. Raccoons have no choice but to infringe on peoples food due to the lack of their own food. Scavenging is what they do, and this little one will not cozy up to a person because it got food. A person is the last thing it's wants to do

Maybe it was a female also. Trying to get something back to her babies or to keep for herself so she would have the strength needed to take care of her babies... @@kathrynnpetersen8876 I worked for coors/ miller beer warehouse, it was by a canyon, lots of raccoons around, they can get pretty aggressive.
I feed a couple also at work. We keep distance lol but they know if they dont growl at me i will toss them a granola bar or trail mix lol. Now i get chirps and hands out stretched 😅. They seem to know me from others. I have asked my co-workers and they dont go near the others or even show up on my days off which is fine with me lol.

You can't just give the animal food, no matter how cute it is. This would encourage it to beg from people, and would probably end badly for the poor racoon. Same reason you never feed a stray cat. Before long you'll have 20 raccoons on your deck waiting to be fed.

Remember as a kid living in the great state of Michigan I began giving a wild racoon scraps of food on a nightly basis. Soon afterward he started bringing his buddies and eventually there would be a dozen or more of the masked freeloaders looking for a handout most nights. For the most part they were very polite and would wait patiently for their slice of Wonder bread, but a couple of them were very big and very aggressive.
Everything came to a head when one of the rather portly forest puppies who I called Mohawk after the Gremlins character suddenly attacked me, latching onto my coat sleeve with his little sharp fangs and not letting go. I was able to boot him off the porch and escape back into the house. The commotion alerted my mother who came charging down the stairs. To say she was livid was an understatement. She was beyond upset with me and my reckless behavior. "Don't you know that racoons carry rabies?!!? ", she cried. Sheepishly, I nodded my head in agreement.
To make a long story short, the nocturnal feedings ended and eventually the little critters stopped coming by for treats. My advice is to leave the little guys alone to fend for themselves as nature intended.
