Hi I wanted to thank you for posting so much about PRI and how we can find ourselves in anxiety patterns, and seek medication for treatment instead or along with finding ways to release tension that has become chronic. I had a serious 2 month episode of hyper flight or fight symptoms and my physical therapist who is PRI trained, was the only doctor who has answers and solutions to bring my body out of it. I had never heard of this until 2 years ago but I believe many people could come off meds and learn to rewire their brains and bodies and finally find freedom. It's definitely going to be a huge service to have people trained in this line of work with the world we live in, the world needs more people like you! Blessings to you and please keep sharing your gifts of knowledge and life experience, cause without validation from people who have gone through this, it's a lonely place to be. ♥

Thanks, Victoria. It is a very lonely place to be, indeed. It pains me to see so many people resorting to opioids to ease their suffering, but the origin of pain is not well understood. That's why this channel exists.

This was actually mind-blowing on several levels. I've been doing somatic work and focusing on the nervous system for the last four years, but I had never joined the dots and realised what you've explained so well here. I've heard the line so many times that feelings are just sensations, but never heard it expanded that the ego takes these feelings and uses them to define 'us'.
You also blew my mind when you made the brief comment that "the mind didn't come before the body". From an evolutionary perspective this is so true, and I had never considered it before. It explains why the mind, which is always working to take cues from its senses and render them into a story, interprets physical sensations in the body as not only threats, but also as who we are.
    WOW.

Just found you today! very cool. I am an LMT, too and a self explorer who fell from the second story in college, drunk. After all these years, having survived a coma, compound fracture of the femur and jaw...in the last few years, I've had hip, knee replacements. As I am now 69 yrs young, I am learning by presenting a message of exciting recovery as a volunteer in a rehab. I connect with you. Look forward to hearing more from you.

An example of what you explain so well is how horrible past memories of how some past acquaintances of mind did not respect me, unable to empathise with me as a person . They come back in exaggerated nightmares today when recently I have been very lonely and under great stress with other unhelpful friends , with horrifying dreams of them indulging in hateful acts to the point of experiencing them tying to murder me !

Omg. I have the book, The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind. It is not an easy read, it's a long book, and it's fabulous. I think I've had it for 25 years and I read it again periodically and learn something new every single time. The author Julian Jaynes,

I have ptsd . Everything you said is true. On the interstate today a car was speeding in and out of traffic, he got so close to me, and my whole body went from calm to irritated...Ruminating started.. Before ptsd I could just let it go, it can feel very horrible. I tell myself it’s just a thought, and I need to move on. The mind wants to loop things out of control, like a story line... everything you said is true.

I understand perfectly what you said I know that my earlier traumas are affecting me more so late in life because I was aware of that and worked very hard to change myself and not be like I knew that it wasn’t helping myself and I mind my mind I was able to move out of my family ( I loved them very much but I needed my space) and went to live in another country and that was a blessing it was like started from scratch and I was able to be myself and see how I can interact with different situations and new people. My life changed when I got physical sick for long time and had to return home because I wasn’t able to live by myself at that moment it was painful because I really love where I live and it took forever to accept the new reality I had been in therapy for long time because I think is the best way to helped you and also finding yourself and learning who you are now that I am old and has more knowledge something happened that change me and creating a situation so bad that had altered completely my whole self and I am fighting but also scared not good combination now I am suffering from anxiety, stress and insomnia besides being with a lot physical health issues and is being hard to start fighting again for my mental and physical health when I know if I don’t learn and start lowering the stres and anxiety I am losing not them is hard

This resonated with me to some degree. However, for those who have gone into Freeze, where the subconscious memories that one is unaware of, playing in the background, have hi-jacked the mind, the person may feel stuck, or feel antsy, or feel like they have an itch they cannot scratch as they try to figure themselves out. Such as why I am the way I am or why I do the things I do. This is a great video. Dissociation is an adaptive response to threat and is a form of “freezing.” It is important to know that dissociation is a normal response in the face of trauma. For those who want to go deeper, with deep traumatic issues, I would suggest Irene Lyon - she has a YT channel and a website with so much information. I do believe that when we have unresolved trauma, the body (muscles, ligaments, tendons, fascia, organs, brain, etc) will go into patterns of compensation. Neal's channel shows ways to heal/deal with the bodily compensations. Irene's channel deals with the brain.

    • @NealHallinan
      @NealHallinan  2 роки тому +3

Thank you for the comment and I agree with everything you said except that my channel is about bodily compensations. Postural Restoration is all "neuro". The muscles are fine. It's the brain that we are working on and I mention in numerous videos that emotional well being and trauma plays a large role in how our body operates.

Great video. I am dealing with some neurological issues that I think that have structural causes. Watching your videos, Dr. Ron Hauser cervicovagopathy theory and the recovery blog of Jennifer Brea, the documentarist of the film Unrest, which suffered of Chronic fatigue syndrome, guess that everything got connected. I Always had forward head posture and a strange unbalance sensation. I've been thinking that maybe my posture issues are causing damage to the vagus nerve that in the end is affecting my rest/digest state. I do believe that I am finding the pathway to understand what is going on with me.

One thing I've noticed is if I slightly undereat when I have fight or flight, my body often doesn't maintain it for long because of lack of energy. It knows better to not waste energy, to put it differently. The same with getting angry. I get less angry when I eat slightly less than my body tells me to.

Humans acquired a talent to "project" internal reality onto the external world part of evolution. The older philosophical teachings had have a very good grasp of what goes behind the eyes through millennia of observations (many records lost) without the advantages of modern technology. The mind itself is and was itself creator of its own problems and solutions, always coupled.

Neal Hallinan from my understanding and from what I’ve read up on, that’s pretty much what PRI is about. Everything, existence, the psyche, the body, all of it and it’s intricacies are what PRI is trying to explain. It’s very interesting.

Does this mean a person can stay patterned if they can't release emotional tension?
I'll check out all three books, thanks a lot!

It's certainly possible, but that isn't the norm (in my experience).
It's hard to talk about it because everyone's life is so different. What works perfectly for one person may not work perfectly for someone else, simply due to the circumstances of their life.

at birth I was stuck and had to be taken with a suction cup that fell off several times, I am 37 years old now but have always been in fight or flight mode I think that if the birth has been traumatic then you have already turned on the fight or flight system in an infant

I also believe birth has to do with it. I was born premature and my naturopath told me that preemies are born into this world stressed, so that becomes your natural state. I've been anxious since I can remember. I remember being 6 and afraid of everything. I'm 45 and still struggling. All the best to you.
