Fouad taking notes during the podcast to go back and ask questions, that’s seriously good interviewing skills! Every one that gets put out is better than the last.
You gotta get uncle dex on the podcast and ask him how he’s stayed injury free for so long and been so competitive at such an age!!! He must have some injuries but Idk!!! It blows my mind!!!
I’ve watched a lot of his training videos over the years. He has good technique and doesn’t ego lift. Still trains hard. But I would love to see that podcast to get the straight dope from him.
I watched this when it went up, I've come back to watch it again because the content is superb and frankly, the lack of likes and views on this video is criminal. This is quality. Thanks for what you do, Fouad!
going full rom on overhead press and bench definitely is uncomfortable but ive been doing it for years cuz the nerds say so, gonna try his tip on doing a shorter rom.
GREAT questions Fouad. You truly want to fully understand what he means, and then you throw great FOLLOW UP questions. I learned a lot from this video, and ive been working out for over 25 years
This interview changed my feeling toward Joe, i have not followed Joe and only heard him in a short clip but the guy knows his stuff, he shoots from the hip, he stands behind what he says but he also will listen to see if you can change his mind...He is funny and very knowledgeable, and I’m going to check out his site...Great job, and you always make the person interesting.
Thanks Fouad and Joe. I'm very glad that you invited him onto the podcast because my image of Joe has altered from a knowledgeable turgid fuck to an actual vey likable guy, now that I have heard more of his complete thoughts. Biomechanics within bodybuilding is such a cool subject. I bought the book from Doug Brignole and that applied has helped me a lot but training is such a holistic thing when you go deeper. Again, thanks very much to you both!
The reason why you feel a better contraction in the lats when rowing with such narrow grip is that the latissimus dorsi muscle is also an internal rotator, so when you rotate your arm in the muscle shortens (contracts) a little bit, giving a better squeeze. The lat is obviously not the only internal rotator but it is involved in that movement.
Can you do a cutting cooking video with high volume foods to fill you up. All of your recipes can be used for cutting by decreasing portion sizes, but then you'll just be hungry. Do you change what you eat to increase the food volume to stay more satiated?
Google low calorie dense foods and try to eat foods that provide you higher volume (popcorn is a perfect snack, smart pop to be exact). Try eating foods that digest slower (ie Greek yogurt). Lastly, just deal with it man nothing’s handed out on a platter it’s just you vs you some days will just be a challenge but don’t give up!!
In my experience: 1. Eat more fiber (muuuuuch more fiber). Vegetables are your friend now. Try to find ways to make delicious salads. I really like cucumber, tomatoes and a little bit (50 grams of weight) of grapes for example. 2. Do more intense cardio sessions. Not so hard that you are not able to a second session at night or the next day but if you feel a little uncomfortable when you are done, the stress will delay the sensation of feeling hungry. 3. Drink much more water to make the fiber do its job. I've been cutting like this for 9 weeks now and have been able to progress roughly at 1% of bodyweight per week without the sensation of complete deprivation. My body is tired but I haven't felt really hungry.
What you add with close grip is your are pulling the grip apart which hits upper back and with that you get more back feeling. this is something that you do but you don't actually think about it.
I would say higher volume is safer because we are constantly pumping the muscles with blood and nutrients and keeping it warm and not going to extreme failure on every set... when we load the muscle with max weight for max reps past failure the tendons and ligament get a lot more stressed and damaged in my opinion... look at powerlifers when they are old..and to add to that, look at BFR training and how everyone claims it’s amazing for training injured... pretty much the same concept as high volume..
Truly makes my day when Fouad drops a video! Regardless what it’s about! Always has me glued and absorbing like a sponge! #MyAllTimeFavoriteBodyBuilder 🙌 💪🙌
First time i enjoy listening to a scientific sports dude, most of the sports science guys are boring and use so much irrevelent shit that doesn't translate to real world application.
Wow! What an amazing interesting podcast. Well done fouad on getting joe to go deeper into his points and explaining things in detail for everyone to understand, thats some top quality podcast hosting mate 👍👍
Top quality guest as always Fouad...Joe is awesome. Such an interesting guy to listen to. And thank you for always putting the time stamps in as well. It's a lesson other channels (are you listening Rx?) would do well to learn. You always go the extra mile man 👍🙏
Well, thanks again man. I tend to dip in and out when your podcasts first go up and then I settle down with a bowl of nachos and a beer when I have time to watch it straight through! 😁 The perfect way to relax.
FOUAD! Got the pump and intra products a couple weeks ago, wanted to give an honest review. You killed it brother, been buying supps for close to 20 years. The effectiveness, quality and taste are unreal. Keep pushing! Just reordered the intra and the standard pre. Can’t wait 🙏🏼
Anytime I’m doing anything close grip I use neutral or supinated hand position to stop shoulder impingement, and I feel like I get better lat activation the closer I get my hands because for me it takes my arms out of it more.
I've never had a good lat pump with the wide grip, my shoulders/rear delts normally get fatigued before I get a good back pump. The narrow grip however is great for me on a t-bar, I think it could be the positioning of the arm means delts are less likely to take over if they're dominant. Also could it also have something to do with nerve pathways which are crucial for muscle recruitment and development. I had a lot of muscle tightness in my neck/traps at one point that lead me to having carpal tunnel symptoms (numbness and pain in my hands/arms) which would flare up when my arms were in certain positions. The smallest alterations could make better or worse conditions for the nerve pathways to fire at 100%

I do not like that neutral close grip handle at all personally BUT I think there is merit in the hands being inside the shoulders because then you have to progressively internally rotate the humerous as you lift the weight and the lats do assist with internal rotation.
I honestly kinda agree that the V-bar doesn’t work well for bigger guys. I’m not anywhere near a bodybuilding but I am 240lbs and when using that handle my elbows are always in an awkward position and I feel it more in my traps and rear delts cause I have to almost shrug it backwards. Hi Fouad great show keep it up mate! My question Is concerning gear.. How long can a man take testosterone before the body stop producing it naturally permanently I mean a few cycle's or it needs to be taken for years before it does the damage? Thank you
This channel is heads and shoulders above most, as one of the dying breed of hardcore bb its good to have a channel with its roots in hardcore, when are supps being released in UK? Are you coming to the UK anytime post lockdown restrictions?
I have plans to come to the fitexpo but its been moved to March I believe. We are working on distribution in the UK, hopefully before the end of the year.
Love this....two people with different thoughts discussing their opinions without a fight or name calling.....I use a close grip handle for low rows to squeeze the muscle while flaring my lats out while raising my chest up, like the lat pose with the hands on the hip, flaring the lats out while raising the chest up .....I agree the question is a good one to discuss, but by asking with using them” F’’ word with it, it did seem to question someone intelligence....I don’t use profanity because we have so many good words in our language to use without using a word that most seem offensive....In Police work I hate hearing the F word used by an Officer because it changes what the Officer is saying to making what he said seem angry ....and the Officer is suppose to be the Professional one, like using a word that most see the word as offensive and will hurt you in court to a Judge and Jury because as an Officer we are suppose to be able to control your anger. I’ve seen cases where a Witness to a crime remembered the Officer using profanity then the actual crime ...And why use a word you would not use at a Job Interview, it’s because they might not hire you because of control..
for teaching intensity, an ide amay be giving a client 1 working set per exercise, 3 or 4 exercises per bodypart for a period of time. force them to get the most they can out of that 1 set that way they know they must push themselves mentally and physically to get a response from the workout. then once they demonstrate proper intensity, increase volume
I’m with joe on this one. Close grip neutral row is useless for me. Just pure biceps work no matter how light and how much I try to just feel the contractions in my back... just a biceps tendinitis killer for me
In terms of volume, for a natural intermediate lifter, do you think 12 sets per body part twice per week is too much? This equates to 4 exercises for the lats (3 sets per exercise) for example twice per week. Do you guys think 3 exercises is enough for a good amount of hypertrophy? I feel like my back isn’t growing as fast as it should and I’m wondering if too much volume may be an issue. Thanks
Probably not many agree with Joe but I do agree a lot with Joe... Fouad dB flys I believe is the same like lateral raises for deltoid have same load like flys ...what do you think??
Yes but I don't think lateral raises will build more mass on the shoulder than the military press. Same as a fly won't build more muscle than a db press.
Want to feel your lower lat.. next time try a one arm cable or dB row and tilt slightly toward that side as you try to put it in your back pocket. Use less weight and of course be careful with your back!
Hey fouad great video. Depending on experience level what's your take doing bulking cycles into cutting ones. Say you make it 20 weeks hypothetically speaking and you decide to use bulking compounds for 8 weeks and then you switch compounds completely to cutting ones for the remaining 12 weeks. Do you think that's too many compounds in one cycle and you are better either doing a bulk or a cut? This is obviously dependant on experience but in your opinion if it was you? Thanks
Dorian had the genetic gift of being able to contract a muscle greater than many others. If I did Dorians exact workout, recovery and drug protocol - I guarantee I will not be near his level and that goes along with anyone that tries to follow it. That’s what separates the top tier from the rest of the world. I hate sayings it’s genetics but truly - can anyone be like Usain Bolt? You can’t change the way your muscles are shaped nor can you change the way that they’re reactive like others. Others have sensitive hormone receptor others have poor hormone receptors. people underestimate how much sense Joe makes when he talks about these things.

Gotta stay on top of shit when it’s that complex. 🙏🏽
I initially hated all the scientific talk but after sticking through it I really got into it. Thanks Hoss and thanks Jon.
Great to see where Joe is now! I remember him being a local trainer at a Lifestyles in Bradenton by my home not too many years ago!
Please bring Joe back again. Great content as always.
Joe is awesome and really knowledgable, hoping to see him again some time! Oh and maybe Matt Jansen or JP?
JP is too busy he's been asked several times.
Started with t-bar conversation ended with a podcast I think so...! 😁

Great interview, I learnt alot of weird exercises and angles from Joe over the time. Would be great to have Neil Hill or Jordan Peters in
There's ZERO weird anything in what Joe does. It's just using principles and not mindless copying what the "big guys" do.

people use the v handle on tbar rows cause the weight is centered. Same thing with the cable.. It would be way harder to balance with a barbell row
