The rear differential noise is something that is unbelievable. Let me explain. I bought 04 x3, it need a transfer case replacement. Had it replaced and it drove. HOWEVER, the rear diff sounded and felt like it was literally going to fall out. My mechanic couldn't figure it out. Of course the stealership wanted 150 just for diagnosis. So I went online for hours. Finally I ran across an x3 owner with similar issue that he couldn't solve either. Until he needed tires, he put 4 new tires and like magic the problem was gone. I thought no fricking way all that loud noise from the rear axle could be just because of tires... IMPOSSIBLE I thought. But I was planning to use the bigger rims I had for it anyway, so I decided to go get tires for them and throw them on, and LIKE MAGIC the x3 rode as smooth as silk. In fact one of the tires weren't even the same as the other three which made the problem sound even worse. *So for anyone out there experiencing the same issue, try replacing all 4 tires making sure THEY ARE ALL THE SAME BRAND, AND SIZE OF COURSE.* That did it for me, and believe me it sounded like some major mechanical issue back there. This is just with the x3. I have the same year x5 and never experienced that no matter what size tire. I have aftermarket that are larger than my spare and never had that issue using the smaller spare with the larger aftermarket.
I once had a whistling similar noise couldn't figure out where it was coming from but then I replaced the intake boot and noise was gone. There's not enough e83 x3 videos diy.. I'd watch the entire vids even if they were longer especially m54 e83 vids..Sweet
Quartz Nation yeah, I once thought I heard a whistling noise while driving, then I realized it was me whistling lightly at the chick walking on the sidewalk... Good news was, that there were no issues with my car..Bad news is that I realized I need to pay attention and not get so easily distracted.
Coolant leaks...use Bars liquid aluminum...misfires...replace the MAF sensor, coils and sparks. To keep her running smooth...add AT 205 Reseal to the engine oil and a bottle of Chevron Techron to the gas tank. Bonus: Spray your bushings and underpinnings with Silicone lubricant. 👌 My X3 has over 260 k miles on it and is running smooth and powerful. Bonus 2: Baby your car about 65-70% of the time, but then open up the throttle occasionally to allow her to breathe.
Quartz Nationz by using the module tricking the computer is nice but what if you possibly have a situation where the air bag in passenger seat doesn't deploy due to said ebay module used to trick computer system that threw code in begin with? Can't it be putting a passenger in harms way under method you used. Just inquiring.
Hey Nate. I must say your videos are very informative! I have a problem, PO300 on a 2004 BMW X5, 4.4L, N62, 139k miles. Any suggestions? I’m in the process of ordering timing components and that red timing kit you recommended. I’m losing coolant too, so I’ll address that coolant transfer pipe at the same time. I’m a former mechanic so working on engines I’m very comfortable with. Any input to the misfire problem will be greatly appreciated. You’ve also inspired me to start a UA-cam channel too.
Nate..my coil packs had very slight film on them as i removed them. Is that normal it looked like oil? I got new packs to go in i will pull plugs to see if their wet dry oil carbon etc on tips of each one.
Hi Nathan, I really like the installed nose / hood protector on the X3. Do you know if that one can be ordered somewhere, and could I fit that version on a BMW E39 ? It might be even an interesting item for your new amazon shop?
I had this simular issue with my M54, misfire cylinder 1. Changed coils, plugs, swapped injectors would always be cylinder 1. Coil had that same burning electronic smell. Anyways turns out my Triac that controls the coils was burned up in my ecu. I bought the Triac from ebay replaced it misfire gone. Just something to look out for.
Hi orange, I'm fighting a similar issue, I used a test light on the leads from my dme and it's giving constant power(while running) to the signal wire and the power wire. Cylinder 1 is the only signal wire that doesn't flash when running. What did you do to determine that you had a bad chip in the dme?
anthony keith I opened up my ECU and saw that Triac was burned up. There is 6 of them in a row. If it's burned up you can see pretty clearly it's burned. You can order the Triac on eBay but they come from China. I think there is service on eBay to you can send your ECU for repair buts it's 200 bucks I didn't want to pay that so I did the repair myself.
hello, yes I want to do some e60 stuff but this weather needs to get a little warmer, I dont think tuning would do much for the n52, I have not had much to do with that stuff yet
Hi, I have a 2005 x3 3.0. I am getting a misfire for the cylinder #2 and rough idle sometimes and blue smoke starts after the car has been running several miles. I’ve replaced spark plugs, vacuum hoses, air filters. Any idea what the problem could be? Thanks
Did you figure out your cylinder 2 problem and were you losing coolant? I have a similar problem and a mechanic is calling it an internal coolant leak. Please advise.
I love my e83 but I do get a misfire on cylinder 2 only if I long crank because then the spark plug gets oiled up but when I short crank like 5 times then it starts right up without a fault code so I'm thinking the fuel pump is old and probably losing pressure if it sits awhile.. I'm gonna change the disa o-ring and clean the icv then I'll check the fuel pressure again or just change out the fuel pump altogether. Can you do a vid on that please?! E83 m54.X3 2004 2.5L thanks subscribed liked
*DO NOT PUT THE GREEN COOLANT IN BMW'S! The blue is formulated to work with the current seals and gasket material that all of the gaskets in that motor are made of. If you put the green stuff in it someone will be replacing seals and gaskets every where that the green coolant touches. It's just like people that have GM cars swearing it doesn't matter if you use Dexcool or not and it actually does. lost a set of intake gaskets and could have lost the head gasket seals over someone putting the wrong thing in mine also. the blue stuff isn't any more expensive than the green and the BMW coolant is what they suggest is all that should be used in the BMW cooling systems. it does make a difference believe it or not. As for the Misfire Cyl 2 i would change the plugs still even though the code went away and maybe put on a set of wires too just to cover all bases*
DaddytechEnt i have 2006BMW X5 3.0i E53 M54B30 SAV. What are all the seals names needed for replacement the shop mixed universal with OEM coolant and sealant was also discovered in system too if u know of a chemical solution i could use that would break up the coating of sealant film from in my heater core is greatly appreciated. As i have just removed radiator all together will be installing a new one water pump head gasket etc. Thank you.
as far as i know there's nothing that will dissolve the sealant if it's in your heater core or cooling system it will just need to be flushed out really well. as for the seals i am not sure which ones are messed up in your car but the wrong coolant usually eat away at the intake gasket but that may not be all that is affected in your car. i've never seen the wrong coolant actually eat the head gasket yet but if it's the wrong thing there is always a chance that could need replaced too but if it's the head gasket you'll be loosing all your coolant and running hot too.
you could try flushing it out and putting the correct coolant back in it. the manufacturers suggest that for a reason. but if you do it yourself you want to make sure you also have the system burped properly. i would leave the cooling system open until it begins to boil over from the fill neck if that's an open radiator. if it's just the tank and you don't have a cap on the radiator then leave the tank open until you see it boiling then put the cap back on. if you don't get the air out of the system properly it will overheat until all of that air is removed from the system. Once it's flushed and properly refilled if you still have the over heating problem it's time to look at what damage the wrong stuff being put in it may have done. Hopefully the flush and fill with the proper stuff will get it working right. i'd hate to think what gaskets or having someone put them in for you would cost on a BMW like that. They are great vehicles but BMW is another one of those car companies that thinks their stuff is made of Gold too.
I just recently had overheating issues in my 04 x3 2.5i. No gaskets blown, luckily. Swapped out coolant sensor, thermostat and cracked expansion tank, but other than the tank, I noticed that the previous owner was using the green coolant. I flushed and got the blue (which was exactly the same price from Peak brand), and no more overheating. I still had error codes that I hadn't checked, since I knew I had cooling system issues to do first, but after two days, the error codes were gone as well. I really think the problem (other than the cracked tank) was the coolant all alontg.
I just replaced all the coil packs & spark plugs but continue to get misfires on cylinders 1,2,3 & 4, it is a 2004 BMW X3 3.0, any idea what else could be causing it ?
Please help! Recurring p0012 and p0015 intake and exhaust timing over retarded I have a 2007 X3 3.0SI with 107,000 miles on it. Shortly after purchasing it I got those two codes. After searching everyone said it was the vanos solenoids. So I replaced both of those with OEM parts. A week later the codes came back. I bought another vanos solenoid thinking maybe I got 2 bad ones. I replaced just one of them. The codes came back shortly after and it again was both intake and exhaust at the same time. I took a shot in the dark and replaced the vanos check valves, the codes still came back. Then I replaced the camshaft position sensors thinking maybe they were just broken. The codes still came back. When the codes do come back it is usually just after startup and I can feel the engine surge a bit, and then it throws the codes. Curiously every single time it throws the codes it is both intake and exhaust at the same time. I think it might be the vanos actuator motor? To summarize I've replaced: Both vanos solenoids Both camshaft position sensors Both Vanos check valves Either way I want to stop throwing parts at it in hopes it will fix the problem. Any idea. Thank you.
We will be putting blue back in but normal I never use blue and most cares that come in here have green , there is little if no benefit to using blue other than 3 times the cost , same way with Toyota and their pink coolant
from what I know there is difference between the green and the blue(around 25$ for a gallon concentrate), the green is not suggested for aluminum parts
The dumb thing about all these special coolants being needed for 'aluminum parts' is that they've been using aluminum in engine designs since well before they used anything but water. These used the 'green stuff' in all engines since it's been around, in all makes.

Enjoy your videos Nathan you have taught me a lot of tricks. I have an 08 328i 100,000 klm on it. 60,000 miles. 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Garage Shop is looking good X3 looks good too very well taken care of
Hi
Did you fix the problem with the noise and if yes what was the problem
Great video Nathan! I def want to check out those scanners in your amazon store! Thx!
Please can you share what was the problem with the noise
Bad diff bearing or?
Hi Nathan, i have just come across this vid. Did you do a followup and explain what that diff noise was.
The air bag fault could be the passenger seat sensor.. You can by pass that easily purchased a module that fools the sensor etc.. eBay
Quartz Nationz by using the module tricking the computer is nice but what if you possibly have a situation where the air bag in passenger seat doesn't deploy due to said ebay module used to trick computer system that threw code in begin with? cool respect from my car fix channel
How much did you get x3 for
Hi. I have a 2006 X3 with miss firing. Needs value cover gasket and all 4 O2 sensor gone.
Hi! Great video! Would you get the same information with a regular obd2 scanner or do you need the advanced one?
Looking at a 2006 X3 2.0d with 118,000 miles, is it a reliable car and real German quality? Thanks...
What's a best tie down location for the vehicle to trailer, tow hook or hitch?

Never heard of that one , probably a result of hooking jumper cables up backward at some point?
Nathan's DIY Garage It was due to bad ground at coil pack harness.
