    Great video, especially concerning what to take note of (ie Outcomes). I am a mature student, 10 years since LLB and prior to seeing this video had been concerned about forgetting most of what I had learned as an undergraduate. You have really put my mind at rest.

      I'm glad the video helped put your mind at rest! I just started Real Estate and the course does require some land law knowledge but we have a chapter in the textbook dedicated to the land law stuff we actually need to know, so it has been fine so far even though I remember very little from doing land law in 2010/2011! Good luck in your studies!

    Loved this video! Your 1st point especially allayed a lot of my fears as it been some time since llb.

    • @Camillatalks
      @Camillatalks  Рік тому +1

      Hi Maria! Thanks for watching! I am glad that you found the video helpful.
      I studied land law on the LLB somewhere between 2009 and 2011, so I struggled to remember much about land law given the ten year gap.
      On the LPC we had refresher lectures on land law which focused on the key principles we needed to know and taught it in a much better/concise way than the LLB does in my opinion. There are also a few chapters in the textbook provided which cover all the basics of land law. I managed to get a distinction in Real Estate so it is safe to say that all you need to know is what they teach you on the course, which is also reflective of the principles that I have needed to be aware of as a trainee currently in a real estate seat!
      I will try and film a video soon about Real Estate and Dispute Resolution as I have had a few requests now.
      Let me know if you have any Qs!

    • @Camillatalks
      @Camillatalks  Рік тому

      Hi Phoebe. For the legal research task it actually was not on an area of law that we covered in BLP, or any other module, but I think that's just because they want to test our research skills. It wasn't a particularly difficult area of law to understand so don't worry too much :)

    Hey, this was an informative video!
    Would you please share your modules and electives with us? And how was the teaching style, weekly schedule, exams type and grades breakdown that ULaw offer?
    What about your experience in securing the TC, did you chose the school before you got accepted in this big firm? Because as I know each firm is offering grants or maintenance if the TC candidate got admitted in their preferred X school, and they would require the student to take particular electives they want.

    • @Camillatalks
      @Camillatalks  2 роки тому +3

      Hey Jouza. I am glad you found the video informative.
      The main or "core" modules that everyone has to do on the LPC are: Real Estate Law, Business Law and Practice, Dispute Resolution. and Introduction to Professional Practice (IPP) which consists of several smaller modules such as Wills and Administration of Estates, Solicitor's Accounts, Advocacy, Legal Writing/Drafting, Interviewing.
      The optional electives I chose: Banking Law and Practice, Employment Law, Mergers & Acquisitions, Commercial Law.
      The teaching style: The majority of the time is spent reading textbook chapters and learning the law and application. We also have some online lectures but not loads. We then we have to essentially solve legal problem questions both as ppepatatory tasks for each workshop/tutorial class, and workshop tasks in the workshops. The teachers then go through each problem question we are set within the module guide for that week. I think the teachers are pretty good!
      My firm has sponsored me to do the LPC but they let me choose the law school and let me choose my own electives too. Usually the larger firms have deals with law schools which is why they send all of their future trainees to a certain school - I assume that the law school offers a discounted rate if they send their future trainees there. My firm didn't have a deal like that at the time that I am aware of, which is why they let me choose whatever worked best for me. They also said that they want me to study electives that I would enjoy, but most other large firms do stipulate which modules their future trainees need to take.
      If you already started the LPC and then secured a training contract, some firms will pay for your course fees retrospectively but it depends on the policy of the firm. They are highly unlikely to discriminate against which school you went to when deciding whether to backdate payments. It will more likely be a case of they do pay your fees retrospectively, or they don't.

    This was so helpful, thank you! Im doing the LLB at the moment so haven't even looked at the LPC yet. Is the LPC an in the actual workplace course? And if so do you get paid a wage whilst doing it. I'm aware it's an expensive course and some firms pay the fees, I'm just not aware whether you actually can earn a wage whilst doing the course itself?

    • @aloh.99
      @aloh.99 2 роки тому

      No it’s not in an actual workplace, it’s just like a normal uni course. Some firms will sponsor you whilst you do it but this is very rare. You could do it part-time whilst working.

    hey thanks for the video ! my question to you is do you think that I should do the LPC if im unsure about doing it. I'm a recent law graduate and im unsure whether I want to do law for the rest of my life. Do you think I should explore other options whilst still applying for the LPC ? and how did you know for definite this is what you want to do for the rest of your life

    • @Camillatalks
      @Camillatalks  Рік тому

      Hi Chuku. This is a great question. I can't really tell you what I think you should do because it completely depends on your own circumstances and desires, but I am happy to tell you what my approach was and hopefully that will help you make a decision!
      My approach would always be to secure the TC first, then do the LPC/SQE later.
      Firstly, the LPC/SQE is expensive and I was not willing to pay for it myself, especially when I didn't know for sure whether I would get a training contract. If you don't end up getting a training contract it is pretty much a waste of money although it might help you get a paralegal role. I didn't want to paralegal though.
      I applied for training contracts for 18 months, secured one, then enrolled on the LPC (most large firms recruit 2 years in advance so there is plenty of time to do the LPC between getting a TC offer and starting your TC) with the benefit of the firm paying for the LPC. The LPC doesn't really benefit you when making training contract applications. My own personal experience is that work experience is more valuable to you and to to law firms.
      Secondly, I didn't know that I wanted to do law when I left uni in 2012. I went and worked in financial services for 8+ years however I decided to pursue law again in 2019. Does this mean that I have to do law for the rest of my life? No. When I qualify as a solicitor in 2024 there is nothing stopping me from going and doing something else. I probably won't because I enjoy my job, but the point is that I haven't paid for the LPC so I could leave the firm in 2025 and not have lost out anything.
      Thirdly, if you aren't sure whether law is for you at the moment, go and explore other career paths. You can always come back to law in the future like I did! But don't just do the LPC because it's a way to delay facing the fact that you don't know what you want to do, because it's a very expensive thing to use as a 'buffer' and you could be out there earning money instead!
      I hope that helps.
      Camilla :)

    Hey Camilla, did you do the LPC part time online? or did you physically go into campus? They have an online option now, but I am unsure of how it works or if it would be good for me. So I wanted your opinion and experience of how you are doing the part time lpc

    • @Camillatalks
      @Camillatalks  Рік тому

      Hey Khush
      I did the LPC in-person however because I started in 2020, lockdown actually forced us to do quite a bit of it online.
      I did in-person LPC because my firm paid for the course and because I thought that in-person would be better. If I was to choose now, I would be tempted to do the LPC online for the following reasons:
      - Cheaper
      - Saves commuting time (1 hour each way which, if you are working full time makes a big difference)
      - The benefits of in-campus teaching are not significantly higher than online teaching
      The only difference is that the workshops are online rather than in person. All the studying is done remotely anyway.
      Camilla x

    Hey❤
    I have already completed my LLB from India. I would pursue my LLM from UK. Can you confirm best subject in which should I do LLM? And also advise do I need to go LPC Before LLM?

    • @Camillatalks
      @Camillatalks  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Pooja,
      You do not need to do your LPC before an LLM. It doesn't matter what order you do them in.
      The two courses are rather different, the LLM is usually more academic focused whereas the LPC is very practical and is designed to prepare you for legal practice. There is an LPC LLM which is what I am doing at the moment at the university of law. I just need to do an extra module to upgrade my LPC to a masters (LPC LLM).
      If you did want to do an LPC and a LLM separately, that would take twice as long and cost a lot more money, but the LLM would be a lot more in depth so if you have an interest in a particular area of law then you may prefer doing a separate LLM.
      I cannot really advise you what subject you should do your LLM in, it needs to be an area of law you are interested in. If you are planning to go into legal practice, you could choose a topic which relates to the area you want to specialise in.
      I hope that helps!
      PS. thanks for watching the video :)

    • @fjoon2551

      You can study LPC at any time however, you are in a better stance to get a training contract if you have already completed the LPC.

    • @Camillatalks
      @Camillatalks  Рік тому

      I agree! Many large firms have quite a strict training contract process and will require that you finish the LPC before you start your training contract.
      I know of some people who have done their LPC part time at the same time as their training contract but not all firms will allow this (although this has nothing to do with SRA requirements).

      Most large firms recruit equally from LLB and non LLB degrees so you won't be disadvantaged in that sense. You may have to spend a bit more time crafting your answer for "why law" but as long as your reason makes sense that shouldn't be an obstacle either. Good luck!
