You are the best teacher
Hey Eddie. I’m finishing my basement solo here in about a month. I’m referencing all of your framing videos and techniques. Others like me appreciate you taking the time in making these videos. Keep up the great work!
Thank you Mike! I enjoy making them...Good luck with your projects! ~Eddie
I’m not going to bombard you with questions, however two questions I did have is what is your technique in cutting the bottom plate for a new door? Another, I watched a lot of videos and maybe I missed it, but I didn’t see any videos of you framing in a pocket door frame. Those would be my two big questions.
@@BasementFinishingMan c
Been watching your videos a few times for my upcoming basement finish and appreciate how you break things down slowly and clearly. Like a uncle who takes you out on the jobsite
Good work Nephew! ~Eddie
Great video! I am planning on adding a bedroom in an unfinished area of my basement. I was just trying find out what to use under the bottom plate of the walls (as a vapor barrier) when I happened to find this video. It looked like you just used treated lumber for the bottom plate, which makes sense. I learned a lot more such as to avoid toe nailing. I think you've saved me a ton of trouble from that alone. I will definitely be looking for other videos before I start this project. Thanks!
❤️✨ Thank you so much for your detailed explanation each part of the project. You make it very easy to follow your instructions! Happy I just found your channel!
The added blocking where needed is also a great idea.
You are the man for perfect basement DYI. I just completed my full 1100sqft basement and did everything by myself except drywall. I will share some pic or video to you later once I get chance. I really appreciate your work and effort to teach people. I am even no handyman before my basement and then I became really handy now to fix any problem in my house. Thank you 🙏🏻
Good shit on the DIY... gotta post the vids.... im working up the confidence to start my basement
Fantastic video. Your 6 part framing series was a mini college course. Very educational! My basement is really coming together. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the views and the positive feedback. ~Eddie
Hi Eddie, I'm planning to start my basement project in coming days on my own without involving contractors (except for concrete and plumbing). I must thank you for the confidence that you've instilled in me through your in-depth videos. Thanks a ton..!
Best of luck!
Awesome video. I'm about to close on a house with an unfinished basement and this video is making me feel much better going forward . Will definitely check out your courses. Thanks
Thanks for watching Jermaine! Good luck with your basement project. ~Eddie
What a great video, very informational. Thank you
Great video. I’ve purchased the BFU courses and they are great. Nice to see this is a bit newer technology wise and using a laser for layout and not a plumb bob! I’m getting close to starting my basement finally and have learned so much from you. Thank you again!
Hi Tim! Yeah the Laser leveling is the way to go for plumbing wall lines! Thanks for watching brother and thanks again for your past purchase of the Basement Finishing University 2.0.

Absolutely amazing I am so thankful to you for inspiring me to tackle these jobs. You are a fantastic teacher I am 58 and you are teaching me so much. I especially liked the part were you talked about the block at the end of an interior frame connected to an exterior frame.
Thanks John! Good luck w/ your projects brother. ~Eddie
Thanks for the great videos. You are giving me the confidence to tackle my own basement. When you built the half-wall I see that you didn't use green wood for the bottom plate. Does that pose a problem with the white wood being in contact with the concrete? I have the same question for the wood you are using to wrap the steel support columns.
You are very nice guy and give me clear and detail, thank you very much

great job Eddie. We bought your your basement finishing university series and look forward to starting ours in the next month. Have a great day! Mark Barner
great video ..
Hi Eddie, love your videos, learning so much! I am in the planning and budget phase of finishing my basement. The city I live in requires compliance with the 2018 IECC codes for energy efficiency. I'm in zone 5 which specifies R19 insulation on exterior walls. R13 is allowed as you suggest but then R5 "continuous" insulation will also be required. Any suggestions or should I just bite the bullet, increase the gap to the concrete walls, and install R19 batts? I have 8" poured concrete walls.
Thanks much! Also, is the Lav sink drain connected to the correct line on the ejector?
good job stressing the layout not only is important for those reasons but also if its laid out properly it saves alot of time figuring out which wall goes where theirs no guess work when you lay it out first plus like mentioned in this if it has to be removed cause it aint what was wanted thats double time added
OMG THIS GUY IS AWESOME, We're Heading Over To The University!!!

Do you have a video that shows how to attach walls to floor and ceiling? And the ceiling banding, do you use a stud finder?
Good job 👍
Thanks Daniel!

55:00 MISSING BACKUP FOR DRYWALL,,GOOD VIDEOS!!
Fantastic videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Question…How many 6” recessed lights would you recommend for a basement that is 30’ x 20’ with 9’ ceilings?
Also…how many lumens would you recommend for each can? Thank you!
Thanks for the video! I’ve seen a lot of basements with stiff foam boards on the exterior basement walls. When is that good to do? And how does that change your framing plan? Thanks!
Thanks Eddie. These are great videos. How you lay out the lines, the framing on the ends of walls so you have nailers for the drywall, etc.
Because of you I’m about to tackle this “ MICKEY FICKEY “ 👍🏼
Ain't nothing to it except to do it! You got this Tom!
Hey Eddie I noticed that your using a different pump on this one. Is this pump better than the hartell lta-1 or is it just more cost effective?
Hi Eddie, great video. One question: why do you do banding and would it be wrong in this instance to remove the drywall ceiling before framing? I figure it may end up being easier for future access. Thanks for your help.
I was wondering the same, also why not just use/finish the dry wall ceiling that is already there?
Hi Eddie, very informative video. Thank you. Would you still recommend ceiling banding for existing drywall in an 8' basement (this video shows 9', I believe). I'm apprehensive about losing more height in mine.
Yes we band 8' all the time.
Do you ever put down subfloors in your basement projects (something like dricore or otherwise)? Why or why not? If so, wondering if you have a video of how you’d handle that process?
Hi Jonathan...No never. It's a waste of money and time in my opinion. You just do not need it. There are so many products designed to go right over the concrete without the added expense of Dricore or other similar products. Just my two cents, we've never had to use them.
at 40:36 isn't this layout showing a california corner ? can you do a video detailing how to do those ?? good stuff.
I really love your detailed explanations in your videos. Your details have made it possible for me to consider remodeling my basement. I noticed that in this video at about the 50:15 point for when two outside walls come together in the corner, you have the stud at the end of the bottom plate and then a turned stud sideways right next to it. In your 6 part framing series you showed this with the stud to the right of the 3 & 1/2" mark and then the sideways stud to the left of it. Is one way better than the other or is this just a matter of preference?
Good eye Mike! Both ways work equally as well...your choice really.
Eddie
Do you have any videos on floating walls? Here in Denver, they are required. I guess just build the wall minus 2 1/2 inches and put a pressure treated plate on the bottom, hung from the joists?
We actually do not on the channel, but we do have some training on floating floors inside the BFU 2.0. Your correct on your thinking here brother on the way to get it done! Thanks for watching! ~Eddie
Is it a potential future hassle to leave the existing dry wall, add 2x4’s, and cover the ceiling? What if there is a leak in the future or you need to access the original electric and plumbing that’s under the sheet rocked ceiling?
Hey Eddie! Starting a basement project for a friend pretty shortly here and your videos have been hugely helpful! Also I was wondering what is the software you use to generate layouts and floorplans? Thanks in advance!
Hi Joshua! Here is the product link to the software I use for these designs>>> amzn.to/2CJGK3t
Do you have instructions for floating wall framing for basements? We live in Colorado...
What program did you use to lay out the project? By the way, Beautiful job and I like the way you explain everything.
Home Designer Suite Pro...thanks!
Nice, Which software did you use for generate the drawings?
I really enjoy your videos, and they have been extremely helpful in my current basement renovation. Thank you for what you do. 1 request if possible, less shaking and fast movement of your camera, lol, I unfortunately get motion sickness , and unable to watch, what has been only a handful of your videos. Thanks again, I appreciate your true professionalism.
Thanks for watching and for the constructive criticism on my video skills...I will take your advise and be more conscientious of the stillness of my camera movements. ~Eddie
I know it is not ideal, but can I use 2x4 (Pressure treated) and anchor it to the cinderblock wall (flat) like a furring strip? The builder did that on the stairs and I want to continue that on that one wall, rather than completely redoing the stairs.
Should always try to run the plumbing after the shower or run different lines. Pex so cheap, just out of habbit, prob not a big deal in basement. But flush toilet scolded sucks. Love the vid and the work tho.
Huge fan. But I messed up. After framing the complete perimeter (1,300 sq ft) with 3/4 OSB fire blocking (as requieres by my county) I realized I made a big rookie mistake.
Any time I had to make a wall in two pieces I would start the stud placements correctly at 16” on center, but then I would start the second section where I mistakenly started with a stud and I started to measure 16” on center from there. So basically half of every wall has 1/2 framed wrong.
My idea is to add a stud wherever a 4x8 dry wall panel will end. The studs between the first and last will be right, but the studs in the center of the drywall panel may not be in the “normal” location.
I intend to hire drywall professionals, but I’m sure they need a stud to start and end the panels. And I’m hoping this doesn’t bring inspection issues.
Any advice on this huge mistake?!
I have 2 interior walls in my basement that are cinder block which surround a basement garage. I've been told this is for fire protection. I am looking to finish the other side of one wall and was wondering if you still suggest coming off the wall 4.5" and include insulation?
Yes absolutely! Insulate the wall anyways...even though it's considered an interior load bearing wall.
Eddie
I can't wait to get started on framing my basement but what is going on with the prices of lumber???
Prices are out of control currently! Hopefully they recede soon brother!
Hi Eddie
It’s great video
I have a question why are your door ways framed with a single stud ?
It's all you need since you do not need a "Jack Stud" on each side of the door because the walls are not load bearing... ~Eddie
why doesn't the foundation insulation go to the floor of foundation? Is there a reason? if moisture is an issue is this a good thing or bad???
We appreciate your thorough explanation, but I think your brother was eager to get working 😂
Did this get re-uploaded? Is there new info from what was originally posted? Awesome work, btw - really appreciate the content.
Yes it did Pedro! The first video had a technical issue so I uploaded it again...thanks for watching my brother!
Eddie
@@BasementFinishingMan Ah, ok, cool. Thanks for the reply!
Your not using jack studs? Is that just to conserve lumber?
What type of insulation is that on the walls?
Great video and please can you send me link or name of the design software thank you so much in advance.
amzn.to/2CJGK3t this is the product link for the software.
What size nails do you use? I noticed you've just used two nails to secure the bottom plate to the studs. Code in my area requires 3 nails that are at least 0.131" thick.
3.25 length common framing nails.
Which is better to use wood framing or steel framing? I’m thinking of using the steel
Wood for sure! Metal studs are commercial and way harder to work with throughout the project.
Eddie
how was the electric powered (Recessed lighting) before the service line was run to the sub panel?
The old basement light circuit…
When finishing a basement how do you address air quality, like moisture in the basement. And Radon gas leak into the basement?
If you have radon then you need radon remediation which consists of a fan that pumps the air under the concrete slab outside.
For moisture, looks like they installed a vapour barrier on the warm side of the insulation against the concrete basement walls. As for radon, there is a depressurization system near the sump pump, which is the pipe that goes into the vapour barrier at the beginning of the video.
Hello sir, I notice that you don't float or hang the exterior wall, I'm planning to frame my basement also, I dont know if I need to float it or not.
And also the interior wall their not floating too.
great work! how many johns work for you? haha
3 Johns! ~Eddie
I did not see any draftstopping. Was fireblocking not required in your area?
That is correct Mark…not required in this city.
~Eddie
We met with a contracter .he gave a nice story about how it's gonna be great .well he keeps saying next .next month again this went on all summer.he says I'm going on vaction do it when I get back pro card with loan .loan comes in an he says Oh!can't do it you guys took to long.Wtf.is this a normal thing he should of told us months ago if he didn't want to do it.
Loser! Very unprofessional...
what would be the alternative to ceiling banding? Is there any way to make use of that ceiling drywall that is already there? Or because of the joists running parallel, this is the best option? Thanks!
There really is no other option if you don't wish to move all of the obstacles and relocate them. Banding is the BEST option...you'll have to trust me on this one Kevin.
Eddie
@@BasementFinishingMan Thanks Eddie, appreciate the response!
@@kevinmera9970 You're welcome.
Was this inspected? you didn't install any fire blocking. This would never pass inspection where I live
Yes it was inspected and we insulated to this townships energy codes. Some area's where we work do require more involved firestopping, and when it's needed we will do what is required in that particular city. Thanks for watching! ~Eddie
谢谢
Eddie is 12/2 wire required by code for basements in your area? Wondering why you didn’t just use 14/2. Thanks.
No it's not really code, you can use 14/2 wire for outlets, but we like a 20 amp breaker circuit which needs 12/2 wire...this 20 amp circuit can handle more load before the breaker trips than a 15 amp 14/2 wired circuit can.
Eddie
Thanks for the reply Eddie. And thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us out here. I’m almost at the point where I feel like can do this! Except the drywall....... lol
@@davidc5523 You can do it David! Thanks for watching brother! ~Eddie
Did you guys add more insulation over the insulation blankets on exterior walls?
Hi Don! Yes we sure did. We went back after we framed all of our exterior walls and Storage area border walls and insulated them all with R-13 insulation.
Eddie
@@BasementFinishingMan curious when you added the r13, did you add a vapor barrier or is the blanket good enough for that?
Hey, where did that sr-71 come from?
???
what happened to floating walls on basements?
No needed in PA.
Day 1, all that wall wrap fiberglass insulation should be removed and thrown in the trash. Don’t you think it will just hold moisture and promote mold growth?
How many HVAC returns do you need in this basement?
We installed 2 returns but you could have only installed 1 because it's one big open space.

Hi Eddie,
I am starting my framing and have gone through your videos and also have taken notes for the work to be done but though I have one question as am also installing a subfloor what would be your recommendation for the subfloor shall I go for framing first or the subfloor first?
I would build the entire subfloor first and then build/frame on top of it. Although my company has never built a subfloor in over 30 years of finishing basements!

Thanks a lot for your help
@BasementFinishingMan this was my question, had to go to the bottom of the comments! Syracuse NY area, 2020 new construction, basement has blanket insulation and has never had water issues. Torn between going the "Eddie" way vs putting in subfloor and rigid foam on the walls. Compromise might be redoing the rim joist insulation to prevent condensation pooling at the top the 8" pour foundation wall. Great videos as always, especially your framing series and all the tools I need!
