Another Waldteufel-waltz. But not Waldteufel himself is the composer of the melodies. He took the themes from "Rhapsodie Espagnole" by Immanuel Chabrier and formed them into a furious waltz.

Sayfa 17; "Şimdi Ali Şekip, Raci, Sait, Saip, bütün bu yüzler beyninden silinmişti; bu çalınan şey tanıdık geliyordu, neydi?.. Neydi?... Her zaman, bahçeye hemen her gelişinde dinlediği bir şey. O zaman aklına geldi. Waldteufel'in bu meşhur valsını ne zaman dinlese bütün hayali ortaya çıkardı. Onun ismini kendine özgü şiveyle tercüme etmişti: Bârân-ı elmas! Ne güzel, ne hayaller getiren, nasıl rüya âlemleri açan bir isim..."

¡Qué extraño!, en mi primer viaje a Europa, en un barco español, al salir del puerto, tocaban este vals. Meses después compré el disco en Nueva York. España, la tierra de mis abuelo9s, tan querida por mí. Volví varias veces, y volvería de nuevo, de no ser por la enfermedad y los años. Belísima música. Saludos desde México.

This has been the very first music I listened in my early childhood. My grand mother was winding her grammophone and the wanderful tales were expanding all around. The year 1945 is far, I still have this grammophone ( half destroyed by the time and y a flood) but the tales of ESPANA, are still vivid in my hearth.

Wow. This is an 'ancient' post, haha. I suppose Emanuel Chabrier composed 'Espana' in 1882 (dixit Naxos CD info) before Emil Waldteufel did this version. Both are wonderful to listen to and also evoke the spirit!

Esta musica refleja el alma y la alegria que tenemos en España, el sol, el mar, el caracter abierto....lo mejor es que lo han sabido captar los compositores de fuera con Chabrier, Rasmaninoff, Biset con esa Carmen.

Original suite by Chabrier is great but this waltz version by Waldteufel marvellous also.

It's quite simple: Both, Emmanuel Chabrier (1841-1894) and Émile Waldteufel (1837-1915) worked the same theme into a famous waltz, and both versions became famous. Kind regards.

It IS great music. For its genre it is really tops. And there is symphonic music that is absolutely stillborn and can easily be discarded. Much of what is written today will soon be forgotten, and this will continue to be played and enjoyed.

For all of his productivity, Strauss is known mainly for a half dozen waltzes; Waldteufel is represented by the Skater's Waltz, and Ivanovici by Waves of the Danube. So many of their works are generally neglected and other composers totallyforgotten unless you really search for them. Ever heard of Lumbye (Danish) the "Strauss of the North"? And sadly for most of the US population even Strauss is unknown.

Really is a shame that beautiful classical music is rarely heard on radio. Almost impossible to find it. I'd have to believe a lot of the population has never even heard it. Maybe most of the population.

When I heard this, Chabrier did come to mind.
According to Wikipedia “Waldteufel's 1886 waltz España is largely based on Chabrier's España but also includes a section from Chabrier's Une Éducation manquée.”
