Swiss watches are - if you've forgotten - the best and finest and most traditional mechanical and automatic watches. People buy Swiss watches for the complexity and beauty of the craftsmanship that goes into the movement and the satisfaction you get from that which you won't ever get from a battery-driven quartz.

There is no hand finishing, like a horology house should be with rolex. Lange, Audemars P, Patek P, Journe, Vacheron - THATS WHAT HOU CALL HAND FINISHING.
My first Rolex was a GMT-Master with the red/blue bezel ring which I got in 1984 brand new for $1100.00. That watch had a Plexiglas crystal. Now, that watch with a sapphire crystal costs close to 10k. Aside from the parachrom spring which is actually a Breguet coil, the watch is essentially the same. The reason the prices are so exhorbitant is because Rolex lost billions to Bernie Madoff and his Ponzi scam. Rolex fired their chief financial officer over the debacle.
Zotlannd Thank you for some real insight, never knew that. However in the 80"s as a teen I've always loved the Sub just like I did Casio. I'm sure inflation has also something to do with it. A Datsun B210 in 1983 was aprox 7500k Nissan Sentra today 23000K, same house In NY 1983 54k today 800k to 1 Mill.
Most people who buy Rolexes do not know shite about mechanics, they are usually only interested in the price, the higher the better to show off their welth. Middle aged men with way to much money on their hand, not connaiseurs. I worked in a "watch shop" they sold Rolex and Breitling ( amongst others). I think by the way that the quartz watched have some mechanical inginuity in them. Surtainly the chronographs.
@NGMonocrom I'm OCD about detail, I fell you with that. If I spent that much money on a watch I would be very very unhappy if it had dust inside it!! I have a $500 Citizen Eco-Drive watch and I found not dust at all, not even a spec!!
@buddythedog12345 Human error on every single Rolex watch in the display case of one AD? Highly doubtful. A clean room can prevent that sort of thing to a large degree. Also, why is it that my Timex is dust free? Along with my Orient black Mako, and my Citizen. But those are all large brands. However, even my Christopher Ward C60 Trident Pro diver is dust free. And that's from a micro brand. For what Rolex charges, they need to maintain much higher standards.
I don't know if I should have bought mine. It is worn by so many people and mass produced. I'm going to get a TokyoFlash watch to wear more often to be different.
Refer to your comment to akira hack. The ridiculous Submariner was introduced in 1954 (same year as your precision Rolex) and remains almost unchanged. Why? One of Rolex's most iconic watchs. True, Ferrari is a different animal (just an analogy) but there are 6 figure Rolex's out there and they are limited. Most items high in demand are mass produced. They make 600k+ watches yearly because people buy them. Many buy used ones. I'll stick with my generic Sub because i really like it.
I have an old GMT Master - the 'Pepsi watch. Bought with my entire first paycheck at my first job out of college in '81. It was a whim, I was doing oilfield work and had to log all times in military 24 hour time so I liked the 24 hour hand.

@sixstringfretter ahaha, nice, nice...is it "gold" or stainless steel? Anyway, mind if you send me some pics :p?
@sickasso72 only in Europe...
@Dan9551FINAL Not to mention the Omega 8500/9300 movements have a 60 hour power reserve compared to Rolexs 48 hours.
Really?? I didn't know about the connection between Madoff n rolex

:D
It’s the name that sells
Don't know much do you?
Federer is the best rolex pr ever !!
No hair or face covers in production and assembly shops!? Even low cost watch producers in Asia treat products with more respect.
Surtainly the chronographs.
so what is really your issue? can't get laid?
@NGMonocrom I'm OCD about detail, I fell you with that. If I spent that much money on a watch I would be very very unhappy if it had dust inside it!! I have a $500 Citizen Eco-Drive watch and I found not dust at all, not even a spec!!
BRAVO.`. !!!
@buddythedog12345
Human error on every single Rolex watch in the display case of one AD?
Highly doubtful. A clean room can prevent that sort of thing to a large degree. Also, why is it that my Timex is dust free? Along with my Orient black Mako, and my Citizen. But those are all large brands. However, even my Christopher Ward C60 Trident Pro diver is dust free. And that's from a micro brand. For what Rolex charges, they need to maintain much higher standards.
I don't know if I should have bought mine. It is worn by so many people and mass produced.
I'm going to get a TokyoFlash watch to wear more often to be different.
If you're going to upload a french video give it a french title..
Don't forget Explorer 1
