I mean think it from another stand point, by the logic of this video, everything should be centralised because corruption happens on a local level. Water supply, Electricity Supply, Roads, food and grain supply, etc. But the problem with it is like that the whole power will go to the central govt, making the local govt useless, and then if central govt hate some state because people don't vote the central party in power, they can f*ck up the local infrastructure. Good example can be Punjab, where 1800Cr was denied due to "political reasons", I know about AAP clinic vs Central Clinic, but the 1800Cr was sanctioned to the People of Punjab and shouldn't be taken away for whatever reason, especially when UP gets like 60,000+Cr for the same reason.
Also about USA, it doesn't make sense in comparing US & India, their contractors get 50 to 60% of commission and make huge loads of money, whereas in India, contractors get like 5-6% of the profits, and that's why they go for corruption. What is needed in India is to upgrade the age old British laws and make surveillance and anti corruption departments like ED or Tax Bureau independent like Election Commission. Also make changes in the current court which is left unchanged so that the criminal politicians can be saved. Our basic court laws haven't been changed since 1880s while the US gets it updated every 50 years. But again, we would need an actual political party which cares about the country and not focused on winning the next election or winning every state election.
I everyday travel by a national highway instead of the city road while commuting from office to home. This way, I travel 4 kilometers more but still reach around 20 mins earlier than the city road.

This is just impossible, government should focus on making completely Greenfield Cities.. Technically there is no Shortage of Land in India... Centralised planning is very inefficient and ineffective at a scale. This is why only highway around Delhi and Mumbai were built while others were ignored. There should be a central department checking quality and setting targets, not award contract themselves. PWD should be empowered and also made responsible by punishment and rewards. Just like how infrastructure was done in China.

It's crazy to see the quality of roads that bad in Mumbai. Just had a trip to Baramati, the roads were awesome there. Hopefully quality control must be done in tier 1 cities as I feel a lot of cash is sticking on the hands of politicians and contractors
Village roads are just hell 😢 after rain it's impossible to travel on it the contractors and village head take a large stake in the passed budget of the roads and after construction of roads in 1-2 years they get completely destroyed

In a federation a central body control such aspects is not possible. Only thing that is possible is a set of protocols that defines how the process should take place. The local bodies then adhere to those protocols. This will give consistency and identical roads.

Sewer lines are laid in unauthorised colonies and New roads and streets are made... PWD roads now have automated cleaning machines for cycle tracks... and those are being maintained regularly... every morning...

Public transport, hospitals, schools, libraries, parks, drainage systems etc. should have a common standard.. There is one issue which should be taken up. Tar roads can be re-used. In India tar roads are layed over the old one. This increases the level of road which causes a lot of problem. The correct way is to remove the layer, heat it and lay it again. This will also give huge savings in material.
I do agree that central planning would be better than regional authority planning and I hope this becomes the norm in future. *However* , City should be designed for pedestrians and public transport not cars. Better condition will not lead to less congestion, this problem is known as Induced Demand/Traffic. More lanes or condition will always lead to more traffic. Car-centrist cities lead to results like in Los Angeles where despite good roads the traffic ques are for hours in the city. Transportation in cities should be designed like Tokyo, Singapore where public transport is the main focus.
Central authority is very fine. States like Kerala bengal and Punjab will then be deprived of roads also... Niramalaji will find shortcomings in thier complicated performas, for reasoning deprivation
A central regulatory body is essential for this issue. The municipality neglects to conduct road surveys to ensure quality or address the problems. Our roads have many potholes (Gaddha) that remain unfixed for years. Our society needs a regulatory body that upholds some standards.

Whenever there's a new road built in the city, it's like a celebration, until it lasts for a few months cause someone will dig it up sooner than later.
I got the road fixed in my area by calling and complaining to CM office of WB. In 2 weeks they came and fixed the road. I am getting them to fix drainage, set up traffic lights, start garbage collection and clean roads all by complaining to CMO. Not a single one of them have harassed me and are working diligently to fix the issues. What is needed is a few active citizens to complain and get things fixed.

@@ritwiktrehan The thing is that the seniors don't care, the juniors who want to make things better doesn't have any power and the seniors make the juniors like themselves in a few year. Coincidentally I just got a call from the PWD office right now for a road I complained. The junior who called me was a very polite man asking all the questions regarding road and drainage that needs fixing and whether it falls under his jurisdiction but a senior was shouting from behind that it's not their work. The seniors like sitting and collecting funds whereas the polite junior who was eager to work has no power to do anything.

People itself don’t follow any traffic rules in cities, i think most of them don’t know the traffic rules and adequate to drive on roads, if this awareness comes in people, then traffic congestion can be reduced, people in India don’t know that they have to drive in lanes, and don’t know if the lane is overtaking lane or not, people park their vehicle(private vehicles, autos, public buses) in middle roads where there is no parking zone, so we Indians don’t know the adequates, they litter on public and don’t know driving adequate, we should learn from countries like Japan, and govt, school and colleges can also spread awareness.

For example we don't even have a clear distinction between country road and urban roads in our codes and forget about footpaths, their is only one line in the code which says footpath should be 1m wide thats all

Maybe not for construction, but imagining a system in which a central authority (maybe NHAI itself) has the right to: - set standards for road & related constructions (from streets to national expressways) -to approve any such construction throughout the country (even a street redevelopment plan needs approval from the authority) -to inspect the construction implementation ( a representative from the authority visits the approved construction site from time to time for inspection, and once after the construction is finished, for final comments and updates to be sent back to the authority) - and allotment of centrally planned tasks to local bodies

There is no space in cities to widen the road, even with Central planning you cannot expect the government to buy so much land that too in the center of city.

Centralised planning is very inefficient and ineffective at a scale. This is why only highway around Delhi and Mumbai were built while others were ignored. There should be a central department checking quality and setting targets, not award contract themselves. PWD should be empowered and also made responsible by punishment and rewards. Just like how infrastructure was done in China.

In a federation a central body control such aspects is not possible. Only thing that is possible is a set of protocols that defines how the process should take place. The local bodies then adhere to those protocols. This will give consistency and identical roads.

There is one issue which should be taken up. Tar roads can be re-used. In India tar roads are layed over the old one. This increases the level of road which causes a lot of problem. The correct way is to remove the layer, heat it and lay it again. This will also give huge savings in material.

Whenever there's a new road built in the city, it's like a celebration, until it lasts for a few months cause someone will dig it up sooner than later.
I got the road fixed in my area by calling and complaining to CM office of WB. In 2 weeks they came and fixed the road. I am getting them to fix drainage, set up traffic lights, start garbage collection and clean roads all by complaining to CMO. Not a single one of them have harassed me and are working diligently to fix the issues. What is needed is a few active citizens to complain and get things fixed.

Coincidentally I just got a call from the PWD office right now for a road I complained. The junior who called me was a very polite man asking all the questions regarding road and drainage that needs fixing and whether it falls under his jurisdiction but a senior was shouting from behind that it's not their work. The seniors like sitting and collecting funds whereas the polite junior who was eager to work has no power to do anything.

Maybe not for construction, but imagining a system in which a central authority (maybe NHAI itself) has the right to:
- set standards for road & related constructions (from streets to national expressways)
-to approve any such construction throughout the country (even a street redevelopment plan needs approval from the authority)
-to inspect the construction implementation ( a representative from the authority visits the approved construction site from time to time for inspection, and once after the construction is finished, for final comments and updates to be sent back to the authority)
- and allotment of centrally planned tasks to local bodies

bhai mere village se city ko jodne wala main road 1.5 KM road 2 chal se aajtak bana hi rahe hai lekin aajtak complete nahi hua abhi bhi ban rahe hai 6 mahine 3 mahine 2 mahine ki gape le le kar bana hi rahe hai aye kaise system hai desh mai jo 1.5 KM road banane keliye 2 chal se jyada time lag jate phir bhi nahi complete hota. bht pareshan ho aise system keliye kisko iskeliye batao kiya karo samajh mai nahi ata.

Local roads of Mumbai is absolutely sucks especially in suburbs area narrow roads illegal vendors sitting on roads and makes traffic issue sala chalne ke liye foothpath bhi nhi hai or jeetni jaga hai utna me ye illegal vendors capture kar lete hai. Just visit Malad east subway from Malad station absolutely sucks pura Malad East he ghatiya hai.
