My Mom always served salmon patties with milk gravy and biscuits. Sliced tomatoes or cantaloupe from the garden were a great accompaniment. I loved the crunch of the bones.
It makes me happy that I don't have to eat store bought canned salmon because my family does it themselves once a year. We makes a few cases or canned salmon. Always tastes better than in store. I always get sockeye, I guess it's just more bountiful in our area. Going to try this though, haven't had salmon patties since my grandpa made them when I was a teeny kid.
I know I ate more canned salmon as a kid growing up than fresh ... my Mom made salmon cakes, a salmon loaf and even soup out of it .. still love that stuff! Nice to see u bringin it back to style on here, Buck!
Best recipe. Bought the can of Salmon cheap, separated the broth, skin and bones as a treat for the cats (they loved it) and made with minimum tweaking. Made three sandwiches which were top notch. Thanks for the simplicity.
Chef Buck you on point! My Southern cooking style are so similar. Normally when I make Salmon Cakes, I pair it with grits and cheese eggs, but like you said "Too each its own"
Janet Damet We haven't had grits too often since we moved up here to the northwest 2 years ago. We were visiting family in south Georgia over Christmas and had grits, which was about 6 months ago, and I think that was the last time we had them. My wife has been telling me to cook up some grits and shrimp, and I've been telling her to cook up some grits and shrimp, hopefully one of us will get up off our butts and do it soon.
I used a George Foreman grill sprayed with olive oil Pam . 4:30 to 5 min. did it on a small grill but think the big one is the way to go . Cooks both side at the same time . your recipe looks tasty .
I am so happy I found your recipe! My husband is on insulin, and has to watch his carbs. Who knew salmon patties/burgers would hold together, without bread crumbs, crackers, flour, or potatoes! Great job! I tried it, and they turned out to be delicious! And they held together! Thank you so much! My husband thanks you too! I subscribed! It looks like you haven't made any new videos in a while. I hope you are ok, and that we will see more of your ideas!
I absolutely loved this video. Dude, you're super cool! Best looking Salmon Patties/Burgers I've seen thus far on UA-cam, I kid you not!! Thanks for sharing!
My dad use to put mashed potatoes in the mix also with the onions ect, then brown them up. I guess that can be a way of stretching the burgers, or makes them slightly milder for the little ones, but their good, nice and crispy. I guess you can use the dried potatoes too if you want, dip the outside in the dried potato flakes for a nice crunch.
Just tried your recipe it’s excellent! I made few minor changes I added tiny bit Italian bread crumbs, dried parsley, season all and some Mrs dash. Very good!
hey Buck, I bought a can of red sockeye salmon by accident one day instead of the pink and the taste was so much better I almost cried. It was not that much better, the part that probably made me almost cry was realizing I was not dishonest enough to bring a pink salmon label from home and wrap it around the red salmon can so I would not have to pay the $7.50 a can for the red salmon. Your patties hold together very well, I was surprised. Nice color too. I have been making salmon meatballs in a mini cupcake pan I sawed in half to fit into my toaster oven. I was at walmrat this week and they had salmon burgers for $4 a pound. The whiting was $10 for a 4 pound bag, filleted with skin on frozen individually. I can not catch it that cheap.if you hang the frozen whiting vertically in the fridge and let it thaw out and drain real good it cooks up nice as it has less moisture in it, otherwise it is like cooking a sponge. maybe why it is so cheap at the store. I am in the process of thinking about self publishing a cookbook for a small niche. have you and CG ever thought about making a cookbook ?
I just made this and topped it with fresh spinach, tomatoes, garlic mayo and potato stix.. And mannnnn it was the bomb!!! Thank you again for a great recipe.. 👍👍
nancy nunez thanks for watching and giving it a go...sometimes I make these adding a tablespoon or two of curry powder--delicious and makes a nice change up
This is so addicted, you know that? Thank you, I like salmon burger and I always buy mine from CVS, yes guys from CVS. One's a month they have can wild salmon on sale 2 for 3$
Best thing to do is buy a salmon filet wild and cook it then use the leftovers for salmon cakes...I was buying wild salmon fillets for 5.99 at kroger..I bought 20 because thats cheap for wild salmon filets..
JFK EOrder Abolish Fed Res : that's interesting. I've never heard about that. is that a brand or a Japanese type of salmon? I know a lot of northern Pacific Indians who've been eating salmon all their lives but I've never heard of anyone having problems like that. Maybe our salmon don't go all the way to Japan so they don't get into radioactive water.
Chef Buck, this recipe will never go out of fashion. Great for a single cook for one person. It looks healthy enough and yummy too! 👌 Easy to prepare, super. And yes, pink is cheaper than red Salmon. I've tried it with tinned Tuna.
Great recipe I tried it and wow really good! It's very straight forward not a lot of BS in it like some they string out recipes adding too many ingredients. The only problem I had was trying to hear the video I know it's not on my side I had mine up all the way..
Quick and simple...not too off of my recipe, but gotta add the Progresso Italian bread crumbs and whenever you cook any fish...a must add ingredient is Dill...also a fresh source of scallions is also a great add...Love the video and subscribed.
+Michael Conner..... Michael - I use Panko bread crumbs before I fry them - makes an incredible crust ! Used to use Progresso - but once I tried this - I was sold !
great food. When you did the fishcake recipe a whjile back I commented that you really gotta be careful not to let the patties blacken AT ALL! The cakes get bitter and inedible if you do. Wish you were my neighbor Buck,... Cooking is LIFE!
I just did this, but I added paprika and cayenne pepper, I also added thin pickle slices..... and can I say.... it was the best "burger" I have ever had! not greasy, not too heavy, FULL of flavor, also soooo much healthier than beef, or poultry sandwiches. this will going to be one of my favorite dishes!
I remember when I was a little girl my mom would make salmon patties....with some kind of white sauce....it was a light sauce....looked like white gravy but not as thick......oh memories....how fun they are....when it comes to food....
Yes sir... structurally sound.. what ever the hell you like. Indeed. Tasty and well cooked is the idea. many variations, undoubtedtly... no doubt. 🙂 Great recipe. 👍🏼
Thank you for this! Just this morning I was reading about canned salmon. And I couldn't even imagine what it might be...Especially with bones? I will try now
T Lo I always keep a can or two of salmon in the pantry--it's a great item to have around when you want to whip up a meal real fast without planning too much.
I don't pull any punches when I critique cooks on UA-cam, so let me say that this guy knows what the hell he is talking about! Leaving the bone in? Hell YEAH! You want some crunch, don't ya? And not that artificial crunch you get when using green onion 'greens'. This recipe reminds me of what grandma used to leave next to the stove for me when I'd come in from a night of....whatever it was I was doing. Trust this guy. He knows his shit.
I'm making this tomorrow 🤪. I like to but a little kosher salt and pepper and add some red pepper flakes and a table spoon of old bay seasoning. Fried potatoes and a side vegetable. 😋
Chef now that is a good looking recipe will definitely try this. What an ingenious use for canned salmon. Think I will have with Salad and chunky chips.
Your show is awesome! Thank you for sharing all of your delicious recipes! And thanks for the laughs also! I always enjoy watching with my 6yr old son- he has a blast! Lol
went through countless videos to make Salmon patties and chefs to many versions with to much ingredients and THANKS for the SIMPLE RECIPE and quick to make and the humor.
ive always made canned salmon by mixing it with just mayo and the original blend mrs dash, the yellow one. usually like 3-4 tablespoons of mayo but really just as much as you want, let it sit in the fridge for a couple hours or just eat it right away on crackers, pretzels, chips, bread, plane. its amazing.
***** yeah...I read a lot of good stuff about salmon--wild caught salmon--which is the kind I buy in the can...I think you wanna steer clear of the farm raised salmon, since it doesn't provide the same nutritional benefit.
I love salmon patties, but mine always falls apart. I will definitely try your recipe. Love your videos. Just subscribed looking forward to more of your great recipes ideas!
GVanet adding an egg helps hold the patties together, and when I'm making the patties for a sandwich, I often add two eggs, but I think the key step in the patties keeping their shape is letting them cook well on one side before turning them.
love your videos imma cook and like watchin your videos your narrative always cracks me up if i forget a recipe or lookin for some good ideas i look ya up keep cookin n ill keep watching
As a kid Maw would use mackerel instead of salmon , she said it was salmon croquettes , back in the 50s and 60s mackerel was probably half as much as salmon was .
This has nothing to do with salmon but knives. We have a great set from Calphalon and I hone them, the knife I use each time but that isn't working anymore and I'm googling and everyone's says something different. Thanks Chef Buck!
I too don't believe in adding flour or bread crumbs to my salmon cakes too! Never put any heat in it. I will try it...I coat my salmon with flour to fry. Will try it without...much love from NJ

I’ve had salmon bread 😋 now found salmon patties! What was in the soup that sounds great!!
Best recipe. Bought the can of Salmon cheap, separated the broth, skin and bones as a treat for the cats (they loved it) and made with minimum tweaking. Made three sandwiches which were top notch. Thanks for the simplicity.

Carol Napolitano great idea--I've never tried adding potato--sounds like a nice twist for folks who might like a less salmony tasting patty
Made this recipe tonight. Delicious! Thank you!
Just tried your recipe it’s excellent! I made few minor changes I added tiny bit Italian bread crumbs, dried parsley, season all and some Mrs dash. Very good!
Mrs. Dash! --that makes me think of my mom's kitchen

JFK EOrder Abolish Fed Res the freedom of Americians is to be as deluded as you want.
Two eggs is so key. Realizing what I'd been doing wrong. Those patties have integrity.
yesss i should’ve listened cuz i made mine too soggy 😢
I love fried Salmon patties! I want to make these tomorrow! Thanks again chef Buck for another great recipe!
Chef Buck, this recipe will never go out of fashion. Great for a single cook for one person. It looks healthy enough and yummy too! 👌
