For those that don't want to sit through it; Cut about 5" off the tip of new growth of the tree you want to clone, take off the lower leaves, dip the cut tip in Honey, then dip in cinnamon, poke a small 1/2 hole in a potato and stick the cutting in. If you have a greenhouse enclosure, put in there to keep warm. - This was great to learn & I think may try.
@@Rick_Sanchez_C137_ Just be aware that 90% or more fruit trees are grafted onto a suitable rootstock. That is a great idea, especially as the tree will grow true to type and quicker than being propagated from seed. As you say, the clones can be planted in different positions as an experiment to finding the optimum site for the tree - and a back up if the original is damaged. Another thing I learned, was that cinnamon has those 'rooting' properties. Cinnamon is my favourite sweet spice, but I never knew that it had that additional purpose. Hi...I would like to clone some apple trees up here in Canada. I am trying some this spring but would like to do it in the fall as well. Can you tell me how the fall application of cloning the hard wood parts
@@valleysgardens6697 there are different ways to approach cloning. Most important things are to keep the whole cutting moist without it molding. Warmth helps speed up root growth but is not necessary. One time I piled up some branches, from fall thinning of a plum tree, in a shady place it rained most of winter and in the spring I moved the branches and the ones touching the soil produced roots. I was amazed. I usually approach cloning by using some neutral soil with extra perlite in a big pot, 20gal+, filled six inches and just plug cutting directly into the soil. You could also use separate pots and smaller sizes or even use plastic bottles. They should be kept in a shade location outside and the cutting size can vary most people do six inches to a foot. @JaCky,SuIOx Lest I think they have antibacterial qualities that protect the new cutting, but I'm not sure. I've just stuck some in wet dirt, but I do like seeing the good amount of root growth with my eyes. I have used fish tank water for great results, but a snake ate all my goldfish (outdoor pond/tank), so rain water is what I use until I get set up better with fish again.
Andi Amador I use pea gravel and water....but not on side branches...I use top leaders off my espaliers when they've reached as far as I want them to grow. I use side branches on bushes and roses ..never fruit trees. 😕
Andi Amador It has to do with the hormones produced only by the cental leader which emerges at about 3 years of age. Some apple trees can be topped and their form doesn't require that central leader. Bu peach, pear, plum...all do. I'm unsure on citrus. I espalier several tree forms and I have to wait for that cental leader to emerg before I can branch out onto forms. When the tree reaches the height I am ready to stop at...I can then cut that center branch and the lowers on forms take off. I can use that top cut to clone the original tree...a little root hormone perilite and water. I suppose you could try to use a branch...but I think you'll get a weak bush rather than a long living tree. Its all about that hormone.
@@jeas4980 Well, that all sounds like important stuff to know and consider, since a lot of time (sometimes years) and effort are invested in fruit trees, and nobody wants to end up with a poor or non-viable one. So thanks. I do know that many have different root stock and grafting in order to have a regionally hardy/viable fruit tree with better product and production.
Never tried it this way . Just cutting a branch close to the stem that is not yet too woody, but getting there and putting it in soil and water with a few branches usually had a good effect on me (usually 3 out of 5 survive and become a new tree). While I've never cloned a Blood Orange tree, I have done quite a few Pecan and Walnut trees, and you make this SO MUCH HARDER than it has to be (unless I am missing something unique to Blood Orange Trees). Simply take a 1-qt paint can (you can get new ones at Home Depot for $2 each, that have never had anything in them)...lay hardware cloth over the top opening (rabbit hutch wire), mix up some mild 'simple syrup' (sugar water) and fill can to top, then put your 'cuttings' through the hardware wire holes into the sugar water! That's it...they sprout root systems LIKE CRAZY! (if you place outside, you'll get lots of bees and wasps too...due to the sugar water...so be careful). If you take a top-end clipping, you may or may not need to 'wax' over the trunk location where the cutting was taken, depending on pest-load, cutting size, etc.
Interesting technique. I will have to try that. I have a (Part 2) video coming out soon. Be sure to SUBSCRIBE and click the BELL icon to receive notifications. Thanks.

This is NOT a negative comment. I just don't understand why people struggle to record with one hand and work with the other. I keep thinking can't you just attach your phone to a stick with a rubber band and put the stick in sand, dirt, anything?
Thank you for going to all the effort and taking the time to film and post this excellent video and all those great links as well. You have saved us all loads of time by doing it :-). If I clone a branch of my favorite tree will the fruit be as good in the clone as it was in the original? 3.) Will a cloned tree bear fruit any quicker than a regular-grown tree? Thank you in advance from a new subscriber, you are much appreciated!
Hello, Thanks for watching. I will be making a new video about cloning fruit trees. I have another method that will work better. So stay tuned. A clone of the plant is always the identical to the plant it is taken from. The same genetics. It will be as good as the original. Also growing from a clone is faster because growing from a seed could add a year or more.
@@GrowingOrganicTvShow Thank you for your reply :-)! I want to replicate the best-tasting Apple tree I have ever had! Will be watching for you to post the other method. SO glad I found your channel!! ATB
A screwdriver might replace the scissors and some root stimulant replace the cinnamon. I would like to see the results too. It seems like a workable possibility though.
Well, um, yeah.. If you're going to make videos for any length of time it's expected you would have the right equipment. Even a HelmetCam would suffice, and the rigging costs maybe 10$.. The other thing that surprised me was when making that hole in the potato you didn't cut it into an "X" format. Certainly you wouldn't rubbed of all the cinnamon and honey on the tip by forcing it in twice. That stuff is there very precariously. anuyways, and you have to insert the shoot perfectly the very first time . Just my 2 cents here.. the potato thing is a good advice though, and a tested and true approach though.. works good for weed too...
Will that work for other trees and plants such as Red Robin, Roses, Japanese Jewel or Eucalyptus.. Asking about these in particular because I have these in the garden. Thanks in advance and a big shout out from Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪👍
Hey shout out from San Diego. I would try my 2nd video technique. It will work better for you. Also I did a video on cloning a pomegranate tree. That might work too.
They all died. Epic fail. Shame set in and 2nd video has been cancelled. When the potato rotted out completely, so did the plant who tied it's balls to the potato. Clones died of potato rot.
Remember- maggots ar eNOT sponateous - they are laid. That said, if the potato is washed this MIGHT mitigate the rotting-with -maggots problem you rightly point out 👍.
I've only watched part one and thought this is stupid because they're getting absolutely no oxygen to their roots. I wanted to see if it actually worked and was looking through the comments to see if it was referenced anywhere. I see I was right. If you want your clones to root faster, give them oxygenated water and change that oxygenated water as often as you can. No nutrients or anything funky. That's how you do it. Separately, the reason for the honey could be that it is an antifungal. I wouldn't recommend it though.
You have to experiment. Try using just seed starting mix but use the cinnamon and honey. It may work better. Each tree is different and some are easier than others to clone.
For those that don't want to sit through it; Cut about 5" off the tip of new growth of the tree you want to clone, take off the lower leaves, dip the cut tip in Honey, then dip in cinnamon, poke a small 1/2 hole in a potato and stick the cutting in. Great idea! I will try that with an old apple tree. Is the potaoe raw or cooked?
Thank you. It is Raw potato but you might want to try my updated technique in Part 2
I have a couple of questions after watching it and hope you have time to answer:
1.) Will this work with an Apple tree?
2.) If I clone a branch of my favorite tree will the fruit be as good in the clone as it was in the original?
ATB
This would be good if It weren’t so painfully slow and drawn out.
Yes true and he needs someone to hold the camera, surely he has a wife or boyfriend LOL
Speed up the playback. Hit the three dots on the video and it will show you different playback speeds. I watch videos that drag at 1.25 speed
Great info & demo. Thanks for sharing it!
Good Info ; Last time I had that much motion sickness I was in the back of a U.S.Army Chinook,
Hello... I very well know how it feels to do a video with one hand and trying to do the activities with the other...
Did your clones survive ? Can I clone cherry in the same method ? Please let's know. Thanks.
Matir Manush that's what I'm wondering
A screwdriver might replace the scissors and some root stimulant replace the cinnamon. I would like to see the results too.
It seems like a workable possibility though.
better to show roots growing results great job

Seems impressive, looking forward to seeing the results.
I have a (Part 2) video coming out soon. Be sure to SUBSCRIBE and click the BELL icon to receive notifications. Thanks.
Have you ever heard anything called TRIPOD ? ( It helps to fix the camera .In this way your 2 hands are free to use )
WOW YOU ARE GOOD!
Well thank you!
Do you put the cuttings in a humidity dome after sticking?
The Honey is an atibiotic so it stops rot and desease. Good trick.
Now bake in the oven for 350° and you have yourself an amazing potato dish. Lol 😂
😂
YES!!!
lmao! yes!
Almond plant-potato salad..
Thats a good one
Use Dip and Gro in rockwool. Clean and effective every time.
Hmm okay I think I might try that. Dip and Gro in Rockwool sounds good. No soil born diseases this way I assume

so what if the potatoes starts to grow, would it not have an effect on the clones development its growth?
The orange tree will be above ground and the potatoes will be below ground.
simple hydro cloning solution works great
Invest into a stand or tripod, this is tedious to watch
The. Don’t watch for me I love people having a go
Well, um, yeah..

Sadly true
@@rasitawinner8203 let me guess English isn't your first language ? Because whatever you ment to say, didn't come across, correctly.
I substituted the fruit stem with a dollar bill. Working on that money tree everyone wants.
Willow stems may also be used as a form rooting hormone
hmm I heard of that once. good tip. Thanks
Got motion sickness. Couldn’t keep watching. Thanks for the headache 😖 and the noise in the background 😫
The box is really nice.....where to get it
I got mine at a local grow store. Or amazon or other websites have it.
I could not find a follow up video. How did these do?
Probably crapped out and didn't work.
That's why no follow up.
It's method work but take care
I was growing jack fruit cutting two years ago now i have two plants
Where's the second video? I sat thru all this and you're not gonna let me see how they worked? Did they?
They all died. Epic fail. Shame set in and 2nd video has been cancelled. When the potato rotted out completely, so did the plant who tied it's balls to the potato. Clones died of potato rot.
Should of used an egg with hole in the top and bottom, filled with soil and buried, just saying no rotting and plant feeds off of egg
😂😂😂😂😂
It was a fail. He acted like he always grows plants this way😂
Replace potatoes his ballls plants grow faster.... Epic 1000%successs😂😂
Thanks
Put your camera on a tripod and use both hands.
" I don't want to spend money its Sunday shops are shut " I nearly laughed my self onto the floor.
Thats funny you caught that. haha. very observant. Thanks. lol
what happened to the blood orange clippings you planted in potatoes with honey/cinnamon starter?
I have a (Part 2) video coming out soon. Be sure to SUBSCRIBE and click the BELL icon to receive notifications. Thanks.
Thank you.
You're welcome!
so how are your clones ? alive or all dead ? pls show result.
thanks
seem like either he is too busy with the clones or too sad to bother with us.. lol
andrew ysk well, I'm not even going to attempt to this if he doesn't verify that it actually works
If he is not responding, it doesn't work
@@ParmMohan-us6rn yeah so many experts promise follow up, think he like sound of his own voice
Dale Val your right. I have tried stuff exactly as described in other videos and no success. Posting crap to get views
My experience from rottening potatoes is that they have a bad odor and it produces maggots as it deteriates...im really not sure how this works well
Remember- maggots ar eNOT sponateous - they are laid. That said, if the potato is washed this MIGHT mitigate the rotting-with -maggots problem you rightly point out 👍.
Thank you for the video, could you please show us how they look now, did they root?
Where is the following video.....what happend with these plants
Asad Ullah the pollution from the road traffic rendered the product unfit for human consumption 😆
if you want this to work in warm areas like Arizona then you must use an ornamental orange root ball. which means you would be grafting .
Please explain what is a Orange ball roots as in my place is like Arizona
I almost did this but as I did not see the end result I then watched part 2 where you stated that this method did not work.
me too ...still waiting for part II
I've only watched part one and thought this is stupid because they're getting absolutely no oxygen to their roots. I wanted to see if it actually worked and was looking through the comments to see if it was referenced anywhere. I see I was right. If you want your clones to root faster, give them oxygenated water and change that oxygenated water as often as you can. No nutrients or anything funky. That's how you do it.
Separately, the reason for the honey could be that it is an antifungal. I wouldn't recommend it though.
Yes my grandmother used to make pies with this recipe!
It's so good! Haha. Just bake at 350 degrees for 2 hours. Let cool and serve
The "sterilized" scissors I left in the dirt.
Does this technique work on other types of trees like stone fruits?
You have to experiment. Try using just seed starting mix but use the cinnamon and honey. It may work better. Each tree is different and some are easier than others to clone.
