I actually ended up getting one now lol. During the time I uploaded this video, saving money was important. But now that I have one, the capture card quality alone was worth it. Will do a review soon.
Yeah they do a better job dealing with frame rates and encoding. Th at Switcher is literally for the home user to jump between the football game and the ps5. The ATEM is hassle free transitioning with Picture in Picture with better audio pres.
I had the same idea about using A HDMI switcher and searched and found your video. Thank you for sharing your findings. Not sure about the glitchy cuts but maybe in a zoom it’s ok.
That’s funny cause I got that HDMI switch in my Amazon cart for other uses because of the remote control and it was 30 bucks and I already own a ATEM Mini Pro ISO. Crazy. Good job.
I use one of these with my ATEM Mini. I plug it into one of the HDMI ports on the ATEM and plug a laptop, Chromecast and Apple TV into the HDMI switch.
I just bought the exact same switcher to do multi-cam livestreams. Thanks for the video for showing me some proof of concept. I haven’t set mine up yet but now I know it will work once I get all my cameras set up. I also went budget with my HDMI capture card and it works great for a stream at 1080. I might upgrade in the future if I start recording my stream but for now this is a great low-budget solution for creating a great looking stream.
Come on be honest and add to or change your comment here. I right away went to your channel to see what kind of videos you could make with a cheap switcher and the first video I watched was done with an Atem mini. So I guess the cheap switcher was not that good after all right? What about all the people watching this video here and get mislead to buying the wron thing. A waist of money.
@@computerjantje I didn't use it on my woodworking livestream I used it for my gaming setup on Twitch. And I also said that it was a great proof of concept for an inexpensive switcher to get started with, which it was. I also said I would probably upgrade in the future, which I did. Did you buy the switcher and not get decent results with it? It isn't perfect and no, it's not professional grade, but when you have a low starting budget something like this is a good solution until better equipment can be had. But thanks for checking out my livestreams on UA-cam.
@@JeffRevell I bought not one, but several cheap switchers and they all have in common that, although they say so, they cannot switch really seamless. at least 1 in 3 times there is some kind of glitch. The best cheap switchers cheat the switching by freezing the old image while switching. This means you only have a seamless switch when there is absolutely no action in the feed you are switching away from.
Thanks for the switcher rec! I just started streaming, and this is a good one for my budget. Question: are the xdj 1000 mk2s finally supporting hid mode for Serato dj pro? It’s 2024, and I would love to pick up a pair this Black Friday.
Glad that works for you , but Apples & Oranges. Have you ever used an ATEM MINI? Especially the Mini Pro ISO ? Use one then TRY to go back to your $30 switcher, bet you can’t. Haha. :). Good luck with it all. Looks like fun no matter what you use ! Enjoy
You saved $200 but that makes the difference between let your livestream look professional or just on a low amateur level. OK, when you are happy with this - it's fine. But for just $200 more you get the opportunity to do smooth fade-transition, flicker-free cuts, lower-thirds/still overlays, picture-in-picture, green screen and so much more.
@samuel c.t. chan Normal people just use their mobile phone or a DSLR to stream. In any case you need to have more than one camera, a dedicated video mixer is mandatory. A HDMI Switcher is unprofessionell like cutting bread with a pair of scissors. It might work somehow but it‘s definetively the wrong tool.
HDMI switcher can also create many problems. Some cameras will just turn off a video feed. Also, if you connect a coputer and switch a source, it will turn off dual display, and need some time to turn it back on. Atem switcher has a lots of features that are important, and you aren't using atem just for camera switching purposes. To explain this in DJ terms: you can use an audio switcher to cut between songs, but you can't do any real professional mixing with it.
Wow this helps!! Was about to purchase Atem mini!! So we need a capture card to connect the switch and a laptop? Or can we connect the switch directly to laptop?
The only cheap option to have something like that is buying multiple cheap HDMI capture cards, attach them to a computer and have OBS to switch them on Multiview mode. It's arguably better than this setup because you can have proper transitions between cameras or clear cuts
@@ahumeniy That's one great way to do that. But it requires a powerful computer. A true video switcher is still probably the best way in companion to OBS.
