I've long wondered why mental illness is stigmatized as some personal weakness when it is treated physically with drugs that affect the brain and other hormonal functions. Yet the psychological/ psychiatric profession writes prescription with just a few minutes of "consult", and no in depth diagnostic. The damage these drugs do is known yet they are recklessly prescribed.

An old friend of mine that I grew up with was always the most laid back, sweetest guy you ever met. State champion athelete, successful in business. Women loved him. His doctor gave him a bottle of adderall to help him focus. Two months later he woke up from a blackout and was informed by the cops at his door that he had shot and killed his father the previous night. He spent the rest of his short life in prison. He died at the age of 30. I've never seen a man so hollowed out and heartbroken in my life. I subsequently learned how many school shooters were under the influence of psychotropic drugs. No one is going to convince me this isnt a factor. The news blaming this on nothing but guns does a profound disservice to society and the victims.

Interesting, I agree. I would also say that politicians in the USA on both sides give no craps about people AT ALL. When kids are killed 99.9% of them just shrug it off. Some may disagree with this comment when you see the D's looking to confiscate guns. However I would argue, I would say accurately, that they are trying to disarm Americans because they want to disarm Americans. Not, I repeat, not to save anyone's life.

Psych medications are seen as a quick and easy answer to difficult questions and tough situations. People are lazy; they want answers and solutions now. This latest school shooting was the first I've seen where a female was the shooter. She may have been taking testosterone, I don't know. But it does appear to be a predominantly male problem where most of the males are relatively young. I guess when you combine testosterone at high levels with poor diet, poor lifestyle and psych medications, its a recipe for disaster

It's anecdotal, I know, but I've witnessed blood sugar having a direct influence on agressive behavior. My dad had poorly controlled diabetes and was a raging a-hole as a result. Almost all of my childhood memories are of him yelling. He would even admit to these episodes being caused by high blood sugar. My maternal grandmother was a sweet Christian lady, but we could tell when her sugar was high because she would turn angry and belligerent. Same for my diabetic brother.

I decided to visit his psychiatrist to let him know that my brother was getting out of control irrational and aggressive. The psychiatrist was not interested in how my brother was doing on the drugs and simply asked me to leave. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m sorry but I don’t believe the medical professionals care about their patients well being, the care about moving everyone along and the pay check at the end of the week.

The mental health of others is another reason why I am hesitant to send my kids back to public school. We started homeschool this year. It’s been rough, but it’s getting easier.
My kids are well behaved, and well adjusted.
As we raised them I always told them I want them to help set an example for their peers. They don’t have to be the smartest, I just want them to be kind. Help out their peers if they need, and be welcoming because there are other kids who are not as fortunate as they are.
They never disappointed me, but at this point I don’t feel good putting them back in a public, or private school.
I have enjoyed the journey of learning to teaching them their school work.
If there are any soon to be, or parents of young kids out there, get ahead of the schooling. We already teach them everything else as they’re children.
Though I do understand that not everyone has the temperament to do it. It can be very rewarding though.

She was given a loving home, we fed her healthy nutritious food. Even took her to a functional doctor that did a full two cycle cleanse and added multiple vitamins. It does get worse with junk food but diet and nutrition didn't fix it. There are true mental issues out there that can't be fixed with nutrition.

I've been on almost every SSRI there is. The sexual side effects can be much worse than is usually talked about, to the point that you have almost no interest in sex and just stay single and alone. I've also had very bad adrenaline/anxiety issues ever since (coincidentally enough) after briefly being on and discontinuing Paxil. For awhile it took me hours to fall asleep every night because I could hear and feel my heart pounding.
I think medications for mental health problems should be used only when absolutely necessary. They have helped some people a lot, but seeing as how we don't fully understand the brain, the gut, or the drugs themselves apparently, we should be more cautious about proscribing them.

One ingredient that was massively absent was serotonin. I’d focus, as much as I was allowed, on physical fitness, sleep, and healthy diet. It's to bad so many mental health professionals have resorted to drugs which mask symptoms, rather than addressing causes. 5:40 I have a friend who is a therapist. I was telling her about another woman I know who is a depressed/anxious 29 year old who lives with her parents and has never moved out, doesn't work, never went to college, doesn't exercise, rarely interacts with friends in real life, no significant other, and eats a typical American diet. My stance was how could this woman not be anxious and depressed when she is doing practically everything she can to ensure that she would be miserable? If I was her therapist the first thing I'd tell her to do is eat better, get 8 hours of sleep a night on a normal sleep schedule following her circadian rhythm, exercise daily, interact with people in real life, and get sunlight early in the morning. Then if there are still issues lets address them but lets try the basic stuff first.
My therapist friends response was "As a therapist I'm not here to tell you what to do. What you just described sounds like a life coach. As a therapist I'm here to listen to what you want to do and support you in reaching those goals. I can't have any judgement on what you want to do." It’s a complex issue. While there is an epidemic of drug addicts stealing for a fix… growing up in these neighborhoods I can assure you many are stealing.. especially kids, because they have no food at home, or means to get any products most of us take for granted. They see a society that does not care for them and when you have a broken home & absolutely nothing, you take to survive.

Regarding SSRI and other drugs related to mental health, I'm fairly certain that the highest correlation between those drugs and violence is with people who are taking them when they are still adolescents. I only say this because the chemical storm of adolescence is often made worse by chemicals that might actually help somebody who is older.
On the topic of nutrition vs. Violence, I don't know why this isn't more widely publicized but, Jack LaLanne talked about trying to kill his brother a couple of times using things like axes.
He was close to being committed to a psych hospital when the family doc asked the question "what is he eating?"
It turns out that he was eating lots of ice cream and cake and cookies and candy and not much else. It also turns out that he had absolutely no physical activity. Well, the rest is history as we say and he evened out his mental health and became the icon of physical culture

School shooting? It's not that simple. Most school shootings are carried out by males who often appear entitled. Very rarely, a female comes along. I assume it is linked to testosterone and the male inability to cope with life, with rejection and painful emotions. Don't forget, women/girls also take psych medication and also have similar difficulties with body image and rejection, but they don't turn up at schools and cinemas to gun people down. This is a problem with men and male adolescents

There's a major problem in society where people cannot easily reach out to get mental health resources, and when they do it costs a substantial amount per session. Someone who lives in poverty, especially a child who lives in poverty, cannot access a therapist or even get a ride to a therapist. I remember back when I was a kid, my Dad wouldn't even give me a ride to the gym and constantly complained about how he had to pick me up from school "for free".
Their parents won't support it, their world won't support it, and instead they're bombarded constantly with negative feedback from peers and from teachers (school system is dogshit) that there is something fundamentally wrong with them. Someone with that environment, plus with extremely easy access to psychiatric drugs (A pediatrician prescribed me prozac at 13, I just was lucky enough to constantly forget to take it.), creates a person who has absolutely no connection to reality. When no one wants to talk to you, and your world is modified by malnutrition and mind altering drugs, you start to build up a fake reality with no connection to the real world. I'd fantasize about the world ending, and being a hero that would save everyone. I'd think that every coincidence meant something was going to happen to me, every person I talked to had a puzzle piece in a larger world and that when I died I'd finally understand everything. Escapism.
I can totally understand how someone in that position, given the wrong nurturing element, could have those fantasies turn violent.

No one is talking about mental health from the perspective that we should be treating it with lifestyle choices and hard evidence. Take for instance the transgender ideology: it's expected to not only accept that yes they do have a mental health problem but we shouldn't treat in fact we should make it worse by pumping their bodies full of hormones, mutilating the bodies with open wounds and act like their me tal health condition is completely normal. It's sad. People are being taken advantage of for the sake of political and monetary gain. People need real help to face reality, not someone to play along in their fantasy.
