Like you, I just found out about Astro recently. They're adorable. I've never been a fan of any particular group until now. Just this week, I saw some videos of them singing acoustic versions of their songs. I highly recommend that you watch those.

Hi! Welcome to ASTRO, I'm so happy you found them, it is never too late to stan talent *0*! I wrote this fan introduction for someone else and thought I'd share it with you too. ASTRO has been around for 6 years and are with a small/mid-sized company called Fantagio. They were very young when they debuted, only 2 members were of age. The youngest was 16. The founder of Fantagio previously worked at an established acting company, so Fantagio was more actor-focused.
Compared to their peers who debuted around the same time, ASTRO went with a "refreshing", young, teen pop image as opposed to mature, hip hop concepts which were more popular. They called themselves the "refreshing-idols'. They are infamous for their difficult choreography, synchronization, and teamwork. Their choreo draws on jazz, classical, and contemporary dance. I highly recommend checking out all their dance practices.
Moon Bin was a child actor and model. He appeared in TVXQ's Balloon music video (a legendary group from the 2000s) and also appeared in a hit drama called Boys Over Flowers. He joined Fantagio when he was 11 years old and was a trainee for 8 years. As the founder of Fantagio has since left, Moon Bin has been with the company the longest and so he is sometimes jokingly called "the director". As his mother was the one who started him in show business, he had doubts about being an entertainer but once he worked with TVXQ, he felt a thrill go up his spine and decided to pursue this line of work. He has training in jazz and contemporary dance. I highly recommend watching his cover of Itzy's Wannabe or Sunmi's 24 hours. He is well known for his clean dance lines, working out a lot (haha), and stage presence.
Rocky is a prodigy dancer. He started ballet since he was 5 and appeared in the musical, Billy Elliott, as a child. He was also a regional representative for TaeKwonDo but gave it up when he joined Fantagio a year after Moon Bin. The two are nicknamed "the ancestors" (of the company). Choreographers and professional dance teams consistently name him as one of, if not, THE best dancers. He participated in dance programs called Dance Wars and Hit the Stage. I highly recommend checking out his dance covers like Chungha's Snapping or Taemin's Criminal. He's particularly well known for his beautiful pirouettes and turns. While he is part of the rap line, he has an incredible singing voice. He recently did a cover of Bruno Mars' Grenade.
Jinjin, your bias, is the leader. He's the second eldest of the group. Usually the oldest is the leader but Jinjin was unanimously picked by the members because he is truly one of the most patient, kind, and thoughtful people there is. He trained in House dance in the States and speaks conversational English. He was a scholarship student at Hanlim High School (a well known Arts high school where a lot of idols attended, FYI, all of the ASTRO members except MJ graduated here). He has solo songs that he wrote and produced such as Like a King and Mad Max. Other Idols and musicians constantly praise Jinjin for his leadership. ASTRO has gone through a lot of hurdles (which I will explain later) but it is said it is due to Jinjin's steadfastness and the group's trust in each other that kept them going.
MJ is the oldest and he is just a ball of happy energy. He is nicknamed the "madmae" which is a shortened form of "oldest youngest". In other words, despite being the oldest, he acts like the youngest. He is absolutely hilarious and the moodmaker of the group. He has a beautiful voice and also has many cover songs. He is interested in trot music which is the Korean equivalent to country music. He originally wanted to be an architect designer but decided to become a singer after following a friend to an audition. He was told to lose weight by the audition judge. The judge was really looking for his level of commitment. He lost 10kg and was signed. He has the shortest trainee period of the members and so worked extremely hard to catch up to their level of experience. And yet he is the main vocalist due to his pure talent.
Cha Eunwoo is the most well known member of the group and arguably one of the most famous faces of Kpop. He starred in a lot of hit dramas such as True Beauty and was a permanent panelist on several primetime variety shows. He is nicknamed the CF King (commercial) and 'face genius'. I believe he is currently the brand ambassador for Bvlgari. People assume this would cause friction in the group but it is the absolute opposite. The members have been together since they were teens and have developed a genuine friendship and trust. His talents are also masked by his pretty face. He is an excellent pianist and worked hard to develop his vocals and dance skills. He originally had no interest in show business and was scouted outside a washroom when he was a freshman in high school. He is hard-working, sincere, and promotes ASTRO at every opportunity.
Yoon Sanha, the youngest, was also originally not interested in being a pop star. Due to his father's influence, he learned to play the guitar and wanted to be a ballad singer. As I mentioned, he was only 16 when he debuted and so he really shows the most growth inwardly and outwardly. He's become a really strong performer. I recommend checking him out in a special stage of Red Velvet's Psycho, which he did with idols from other teams. His nickname is the "maknae on top", which is a phrase that refers to the youngest being the toughest. The joke is that the only hyung he is afraid of is Moon Bin, but that doesn't stop him from teasing him.
Moonbin and Sanha came out as a unit group last year with a track called Bad Idea. I highly recommend as you can see their range. It was the first time they went with a darker, sexy concept. Also crop tops. You will understand. The reason they came out as a unit group was because the two of them are MCs of a music program called Show Champion. All the members have experience being MCs and hosts of variety shows and music programs.
In regards to the hurdles. In 2018, there was an internal conflict at Fantagio when a foreign investment group tried to take over the company. The founder "resigned" (arguably ousted) and the company was in limbo. Without the proper credentials and licenses, ASTRO couldn't perform on television. They released a single called Always You but couldn't do proper promotions. This year was a difficult time for both AROHAs and for ASTRO. At the end of 2019, Moon Bin also went on hiatus for 4 months due to health problems. Compounded with the fact that they were with a mid-sized acting company with weaker pull and thus have more difficulty guesting on mainstream shows, ASTRO really built themselves up one step at a time.
In 2016, they released the singles, Hide and Seek, Breathless, Confession, and I Should've Held On (this track doesn't have an MV and they didn't do proper promotions again due to company problems). This era was the "Four Seasons" era. Each single is from a mini-album that is titled after a season: Spring Up, Summer Vibes, Autumn Story, Winter Dream. The concepts overall were more bright, teen pop. In 2017, they moved on to a "Dreams" concept with two mini albums titled Dreams Part I and Part II. Their singles are "Baby' and "Crazy Sexy Cool". Definitely check these out. This is the era where they began to take on a more It's the first time they wore suits, etc. I particularly like Crazy Sexy Cool, it has a broadway musical feel. 2018 is when they were in limbo.
2019, they came out with their first full album, All Light. This was really significant as they came back from a year long hiatus. The single, All Night, has an R&B vibe and is the first time they dyed their hair, wore colour lens and presented a sensual concept. The single gave them their first win at a music show. It was a really emotional day. In the latter half of 2019, they came out with the mini album Blue Flame with a title track named the same. As I mentioned, Moon Bin went on hiatus, and this still produces sadness. However, Blue Flame is simply not to be missed.
In 2020, Moon Bin returned and ASTRO came back with their mini album Gateway and the title track Knock. They returned to their "refreshing" roots with a single that they called "power refreshing". The choreo is notoriously difficult and the famous story is that they broke the floor while filming the music video. They won for the second time on a show. Another really emotional win. The latter half of 2020 is when Moon Bin and Sanha came out as a unit. They also won on a show, 8 days after their debut as a unit, and hold the record for the fastest win of a unit group.
April of 2021 is when they returned with their second full album called All Yours (continuing an "All" theme) with title track, ONE. This single gave them their first triple crown (3 wins)! It was the first time they went with a "harder" concept. I would describe it as 90s boy band with an edge. Which brings us to now. Their album Switch On and this single, After Midnight, is really significant to ASTRO and to AROHAs. It is a return to their "refreshing roots' but also describes their growth and journey. We see the members go on vacation, relax a little, and importantly, having fun! It is also the first album where all the members participated in the writing, composing, and production. Rocky, MJ, and Jinjin have written and composed tracks before but Eunwoo, Sanha, and Moon Bin have finally joined as well.
Others have mentioned this already, but ASTRO is also hilarious, as you already know by the Tik Tok. There is so much more I can say but this is already running long, haha. Their dream is to perform at the Super Bowl and I believe they can. They continuously work against the odds and every win and accolade they receive was one that was hard-fought and deserved. I'm so glad you came across this talented group! Of all the funny things they've done (see: DDOCA), it's hilarious that THAT TikTok brought people to their fandom, but I'll certainly take it! Anything positive to get these guys more visibility. This particular comeback is so special to them and to us as their fans (Aroha) because they all participated in the making of the songs, and for several group members this was their first time doing things like writing. That the album is so so good and that they had a personal hand in it makes it all the more special.
Point of clarification: "leisure suits" were in the 70s, so I'm sure your parents were probably talking more about those than the suits like Rocky's wearing. Rocky's suit is loose and baggy, and we had them in the US in the 1980s during shows like the original 'Miami Vice' and others. 80s clothing is making a raging comeback, for better or worse (believe me, some of it is definitely worse).

The only other kpop group i vibe with other than bts is astro. Astro are genuinely very talented and incredibly underrated. They come from a small company so theyve really had to get promo via other methods like cha eunwoo's acting etc as unlike other kpop groups who get fame handed to them from debut, astro hasnt which is a bit similar to bts's story.
Their discography is truly varied and so many great songs. The members all genuinely like each other and its not fake like groups from the big3 companies (yg, sm, jyp). They hardly ever get invited to award shows and still struggle to get their name out there but finally people are really learning more abt them. Eunwoo has really taken on a lot of the burden and the other members are doing solo projects like acting too now to help bring more awareness of the group. I know the kdrama true beauty really opened doors for them.
Also the boys are sweethearts and good friends with the members of bts. Astro also help create their music too. Cha eunwoo has lots of drama ost (soundtracks) on spotify that sounds absolutely beautiful. I love his ballads and astro do really lovely slow songs too.

I’m a baby Aroha just learned about them a few months and I’m sad that it’s taken me this long. I’m Army too but now all my time has been Astro. How could anyone hate you. You have such positive beautiful vibes and don’t give a second more of your time to haters.
It makes me feel so great when more people are noticing the talent of Astro. They all can dance and sing, even the rappers. Yes, they all are crackheads when you watch Astro Zone and other vids. They are real hyungs with each other too. I would suggest listen to them on Universe too if you want to get to know them. It’s them answering questions from fans. My bias is MJ but they all are wreckers for me. When you want to feel happy and postive Astro is the group. They really stay with that vibe despite other groups that try to be savage or vulgar.
