This is one of the great British female singers from the 60's. She had such a beautiful unique voice & covered many genres (blue-eyed soul, pop ,ballads, country, jazz). Her biggest hit was "Son Of A Preacher Man" in 1969. She had a lot of hits such as "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me", "I Only Want To Be With You", "I'll Try Anything", "Wishin' & Hopin' ", "The Look Of Love", "The Windmills Of Your Mind", "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" & many more.
This song was originally meant for Aretha Franklin but she turned it down because she was the daughter
of a preacher man (she ended up doing a great version later on). Dust added a breathlessness to it
that made it so seductive. She was able to transmit deep emotion when she sang.
Dusty was British and could sing anything and perform beautifully.
not a single dirty word and yet, one of the sexiest songs ever, no matter what the decade
Bro if you've never heard this song then that means you've never watched Pulp Fiction. You need to watch that movie today my friend today
Excellent movie, amazing soundtrack!
YES ABSOLUTELY 💯
They say. You either love it or hate it. No in between. It is …. my all time favorite. 😍
You're about the ONLY reactor I've watched who truly has an open mind when it comes to music.
Shon- I absolutely love you!!!! ❤ I love your open mind, your a young kid and you are willing and able to hear the classics! Keep listening and ill watch and listen to your opinions- a fan 😊
I concur!
Agreed! 💜🤘
Sneaking away with the visiting preacher's son to fool around was something Aretha Franklin didn't feel comfortable singing about, so when she was offered this song, she politely declined. Later on, she congratulated Dusty and Aretha did her own version, but Dusty had already had a big hit. Dusty was the Female Blue-Eyed Soul Goddess. The album was recorded with some of the same players that Elvis used a year later when he went down to Memphis to record his "Elvis in Memphis" sessions. I believe some of the Sweet Inspirations were the backing vocalists. Considered one of the top songs of the Mid-Sixties.
Dusty could sing anything incredibly well. Her voice could do anything ❤
First time I heard this song was in the movie "Pulp Fiction" in a John Travolta and Uma Thurman scene.
She can belt songs too. Very smoky and soulful voice. From the UK first there was Dusty, then there was Adele. Those two imho are in a class all their own.
CYPRESS HILL SAMPLED THIS BEATS IN "HITS FROM THE BONG"
The one and only Dusty. Such a soulful voice, beautiful. She was deported from South Africa in the early sixties because she insisted there was to be no segregation at her shows ❤
I just want to tell you that you are my very favorite reactor and I smile every time I'm able to watch one of your reactions.🌸
Shon .. Edgar Winter Group.. Frankenstein Live 1973..you won't regret it my man!!!
Dusty at last! Fast forward to her collaboration with the Pet Shop Boys on ‘What Have I Done to Deserve This?’ If you can find the live version at the 1988 BRITs Awards you won’t be disappointed.
Omg I loooove that song. So great!!
Dusty Springfield had a long-term relationship with Norma Tanega, the lady who made the song 'You're Dead' that's used for the movie and TV show 'What We Do in the Shadows'. They lived in London together for a while! I've always loved this song.
I'm a metalhead, but this one of my favourite all-time songs. Love it!
Yes indeed, such a rare, beautiful voice!!! "The Look of Love" is next level and goes so well with sax! I believe it was used in a James Bond film! A must hear!!! Thanks!
Dusty did a music video with the pet shop boys, a great group of the 80's the song was "What did I do to deserve this?" Hope you get a chance to check it out. The Boys had a lot of great hits. 😊 Gary
Dusty was AMAZING!
Welcome to the sounds of my high school years. Dig your channel and reactions dude. Really happening in a groovy kinda way. Dap bro.
The Windmills of Your Mind was an often used phrase in pop culture for quite some time, usually implying chaotic thinking. But everyone loved the song itself.
Where you have different sounds coming out each sides of the buds is known as STEREO. Before this was invented, we had MONO, where it was the same coming out of both sides. The early radio frequencies was broadcasted in MONO, this was the AM (Amplitude Modulation) stations on your radio. STEREO stations were broadcasted on FM (Frequency Modulation).
Band Maid is an impossibly hard rocking band . Their live video for Hate ? Is a very popular song. Guitar face off. A drummer with a big smile. You wouldn't believe an Ice Queen could have such stage presents. Don't forget the 600 year old pigeon. PO.
Love this song and love all of your videos! This song always makes me smile because my 1st love was the son of a preacher. That was many years ago and we are friends still to this day! Much love from California ❤
Her voice was amazing and spanned genres.
This has always been one of my favorites. Dusty was special.
Yes Pulp Fiction is a must my friend. Mama's and the Papa's California Dreaming is an absolute treasure. Peace out ✌️ ☮️
My goodness there is a live version of this and her voice sound sooo dang sexy
Great song. Love she loved " the son of a preacher man."
Dusty Springfield - "The Look of Love", "I Close My Eyes And Count To Ten"..
My dad was a radio DJ before I was born (switched to news radio by the time I was) and has an impressive collection of 45s. This is one of the songs I would play often on his turntable. When the scene in Pulp Fiction with this song started I was instantly thrown back to my kid days as I hadn't listened to it in awhile. Will always be one of my favorite songs and every time I hear it I get that warm feeling of nostalgia. Thank you for your reaction, Shon!
This song is perfect.
Dusty is my favorite female singer of all time. She was an early purveyor of Blue-Eyed Soul. There is not a song that she does that isn't just great, sensual, joyful and expertly crafted. In fact, Shon, you strike me as a Billy Ray......?
Recordings from this era are not usually "in stereo" they're recoded in mono, so different instruments in the left and right audio is common
I hope you will be able to continue to examine Dusty's song book. She had such a remarkable sultry voice that you just couldn't help but listen to her sing. "You Don"t Have To Say You Love Me: is still on my play lists as is "Son Of A Preacher Man". After this song, everyone thought she was a southern girl, but she is English all the way.
Dusty faded after this song - but came back almost 20 years later when she did 'What Have I Done To Deserve This' with the Pet Shop Boys.
Great summer music back then
This was in the soundtrack for Pulp Fiction.
Great song. Thanks for reacting. How about some triumph fight the good fight or the who explosive performance on smothers Brothers tv show that caused actress bette Davis to faint after they performed my generation
Tanya Tucker "Delta Dawn"
Consider Leon Russell A Song for You, Homewood Session, Memphis. Magnificent.
You 'bout to ne blown away! 😎
Love this one! Please check out ODE TO BILLY JOE by Bobby Gentry
Try a song from around the same era with a lot of that soft sexiness, but more jazzy. "Fever" by Peggy Lee. One of my all time favorites.
Great song! Great reaction!
Pulp Fiction! Flipping it on now. ❤
I was raised on music (dad a drummer playing rock and blues, mum from England bringing that UK sound) so I remember listening to this jam as a kid. But I also grew up in an era that included the birth of hip hop, so now when I hear it, there's a little Cypress Hill whispering in my ear "Can I get a hit ohhhh", haha!
Hits from the bong!!!
Classic been in soo many movies
Please watch the live version for a real treat!
Got that Stax sound.
I know you know 'Hits from the Bong' by Cypress Hills!! They sampled from this song.
She has a nice little catalog to dive into , May I suggest Wind Mills of my mind !
Dude, you need to react to her song 'Spooky', an all time classic! Love the videos bro 🙂
This is such an amazing classic! Cypress Hill used the track for their song Hits from the Bong. Far cry from the original!
💙 Awesome 💙
This was before my time, but it's way more sexy than the lyrics of today imo.
♥

Dion Warwick ( alfie
Ay bro you gotta react to Walk by foo fighters shit is fire 🔥🔥
Dusty had the hit, but Arethra Franklin's version is a little more gospel
Aretha was offered the song, but turned it down. She later did her own version after it became a hit.
Why do reaction vid thumbnails always show someone looking like they are intercepting an incoming meat rocket? Goofy. Reaction-wise, I like it. That woman sang this in a way that her voice was making slow love to one's ears.
Nice drive by peace out
