  • Eddie & the Hot Rods - Teenage Depression as performed on Supersonic January 22nd 1977. Rebroadcast on Granada Plus 2001 at which time I recorded the full series using a VHS Hifi VCR recording at SP, in 2003 I transferred the tapes to DVD-R This performance is taken from the 2003 DVD.

    One of the biggest British bands of the 70's and of course the "LIFE ON THE LINE" is one of the greatest albums of this decade.

      Agreed, I bought in on cassette a week after it was released and it stayed in my car's tape player for about 2 years! Still in my top 10 albums of all time.

    Me, born, grew up, and still reside on the Central West Coast of California, Eddie and the Hot Rods are one of my many favorite English bands, and I always wanted to see them in concert when they released their debut album "Teenage Depression". This live performance of them on January 22nd, 1977 was just one day before my 21st birthday.

    This version of the band, the classic version, were the tightest band You could ever see. Absolute rock 'n' roll perfection. They made You know that You were alive!!

    I saw them at The Marquee in summer '77 when Do Anything ' was riding high. It was so rammed and so hot I fainted! They were of course, brilliant.

      @@ScottishTeeVee They really were AMAZING! I am a 59 year old 'original 1977 pUnK' (I was schooled as a kid by my 'Cool parents' ) on the best ;R'n'B, Soul, Funk, Reggae, Disco, Jazz/Swing, and by my older Brother on ;Northern Soul and GLAM!
      But when I saw 'THE SEX PISTOLS ' on the Manchester TV SHOW 'So it Goes' , I was 'in'! dx

    How overlooked the Hot Rods' first two albums are. They had the perfect point between 60s stuff like the Who, early powerpop, the energic R&B 70s as dr. Feelgood and , of course, 77 punk rock. They actually got a bunch of anthems!

      @@CIMAmotor i knew you'd answered that . to me not the same : Irish , Scottish , and English Music gave birth to Bluegrass during colonisation , and Country Music later on that gave birth to traditionnal Rock'n'Roll ( Elvis , Vincent , Cochran and all the others Greats ). You will object : what about the Blues ? and i will agree that Blues is a purely American thing but i hear more Country than Blues in traditionnal Rock'n'Roll. This is my vision , it's worth what it's worth

    Teenage Depression opened the 11th November 1976 Top of the Pops. I remember it well as everyone at school was talking about it the next day as it was deemed 'punk rock'. Sadly the episode has been wiped so it is great to see the performance here. Chicago were number one with 'If you leave me now'.

    nice. saw them in a suburb of Chicago around then and was inspired.
    Higgs misses the change up at about 2:30 here but makes a nice recovery lol

      Yep, superb bass player in my opinion, as you might know he also played with The Damned (and UFO!). His surname is spelt Gray, btw - same as Paul Gray the bass player in Slipknot, coincidentally!

      Mike Mansfield it was kind of a kids tv programme but had a number of early punk bands on it, remember it as a kid always remember him saying “And cue” before introducing the band had the Damned I think maybe first tv appearance also the Feelgoods
