    These are actually one of the best engines and will easily go 300k IF properly maintained. Change your oil regularly.

    My 1997 Infiniti QX4 has 322, 873 miles on it now. The only thing im changing is valve cover gasket. The VG30 is the one that started in 1984 in the 300zx the bored it out, and made it the VG33 thats why ist such a great motor had a little over decade to perfect 👌 it

    Best engine... got two approaching 300k in a pathfinder, then one is a spare that came out of a rust bucket. Both run very well and haven't left me stranded.
    The only real issues I've ever had is leaky valve-cover gaskets and stuck open fuel injectors. Keep oil in em and a bit of maintenance now and then they will run FOREVER.

    Too many hoses in very tight places.

      VR30 is worse lol. I do not miss owning that engine at all. Way too many wires, hoses, pipes, etc all over the top and sides of the engine. I have the VQ37 now, and the valve cover gaskets took 1 hr and 30 min to swap out. Such a simple engine. Well besides the waterpump and timing area, that’s a pain to get to. All engines have some flaws.
      If anything the worst one I owned was the B58B30M0. First production B58, 2016-2018 I believe. Timing components were on the rear of the engine. Requires special tools and a lot of patience to get to. Thankfully I sold the car before anything timing related happened. Still, it was a money pit like most BMW’s.

    What is the oil pressure suppose to be at start up and idle after the engine warms up? Light is on and dont want to drive it and ruin it

    • @SteveXNYC
      @SteveXNYC  5 місяців тому +1

      the vg33 are 9psi at idle and 60psi at 2000rpm.

    Hi Steve!
    Do you know why the wear occurred on the hydraulic lifters? Wrong oil viscosity? High mileage? Low quality materials? Bad quality engine oil? Pls explain... thank you!

    • @SteveXNYC
      @SteveXNYC  2 роки тому +2

      I have a feeling that this might be a factor in our oil pump. ua-cam.com/video/LEnsPO8RbT4/v-deo.html the lifter noise went away with the new lifters installed, but at startup the lifter noise can still be hear for 2-3 seconds until the oil pump send oil pressure. If the pump is damaged it will cause the oil in the passageway to leak down when the pump is shut off. This quick noise at startup on occur after the vehicle has been sitting for overnight or longer. I do plan no changing the oil pump new. The hydraulic lifters can fail if the internal ball and spring fail to function. Thanks.

      @@SteveXNYC What are you talking about? It is completely normal for the lifters to clack for a couple seconds on a cold start. Additionally, there is no ball and springs. It's a plunger/spring setup that self-adjusts with oil pressure.
      If the oil pump was going bad, you would have A LOT more problems here. You have no idea what you're talking about.

    Howdy. I have a new-to-me 1998 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4, automatic, 3.3L VG33E 4th VIN digit "A" motor, made 10/1997. It has one or more bad piston wrist pins, and a confirmed bad crankshaft due to excessive bearing failures from oil loss. Does anyone know if the pistons in a 1996-2004 Pathfinders, QX4, Frontier, or Xterras can be removed and reinstalled through the bottom of the motor (oil pan), with the motor still installed? I also have a bad crank so I have to have it removed and machined too. The rest of the motor is clean, no oil burning, and low miles (165,000). I hate to swap it for an unknown possible problem motor if I can do it this way instead.
    I haven't been able to find anyone online who has accomplished this, but maybe it's not possible due to clearance or whatever. Do ya know, or take a guess if ya been under one like this? Thanks much!

      The entire motor sounds like a problem. I would just replace it with a used engine. Same risk but less work.

      Its $25 each at the dealer. www.nissanpartsdeal.com/parts/nissan-lifter-valve~13231-v5014.html?vin=&make=Nissan&model=Frontier&year=2003&submodel=&extra1=&extra2=&filter=(1=KC;2=VG33E;3=FED;4=4WD;5=XE;6=AT)
      I found a New after market set for $50. www.ebay.com/itm/275309729374?fits=Make%3ANissan&hash=item4019bd165e:g:XzoAAOSw7jJifYID&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA8IzMFTFaASLbIZ6B5m0FjiIisS2aOxnAvw4TaQEYLDBk7%2BMIFPdc2tD%2Bhzui3mEt9rN2JSzk%2FDHolQzXvfW5dU83KLAc2m0k6g%2BjL7yBBKt%2BI2fBdZ0vhsKEHdO8nsmLTNuAXWvsmTWxQ1TYs%2BQcq04WZhPt2g69ql91mVSLfhu4W4KZvjaqTO8pn%2B8ybe9sQvbbT%2B96yQd%2BqN2GycLNjO6D2d97yToRq9XnxShQW%2F4cuh2AKcrBA0rs3n0cxAwlb%2F19M6HkLavtEWKbB%2BlOnqS8Hg6UfaKGW8CaIODFUwVXNXAZu7VMgNJHkA3hOAPDyg%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABFBMmID0jsZg
      I think the spring and ball inside the lifter body is the cause of the rattling noise. The spring may loose tension and the ball might not seat properly to allow the lifter to function. Good luck , stay safe.

    Don't get them hot, use good oil and half decent filters with a bypass valve, and change at least the oil filter shortly after the bypass valve opens on the filter.
    The longer oil stays clean, the longer they last. They're kinda picky on what kind of abuse you put them thru.
    They love rpms, and don't mind being worked at 3 psi of boost... 4 is probably the magical number for stock engines tho
