Somehow a whole year in beauty school and these concepts never truly connected for me. I was attentive, confident, one of the best students in beauty school, and I had many clients too. However, we all would just sort of wing it. The teachers on the the floor would come around and do some little corrections here or there and call it good. We started cutting hair on real people the first week we were in school! I guess I never truly understood how to plan for a haircut especially since everyone's head is so different. I struggled with where to start, getting lost in sectioning, which direction do I pull, and basically doing two haircuts!! I really over thought the whole thing to the point where later in the salon I felt like I didn't know what the hell I was doing. It gave me so much anxiety that I quit doing hair all together. I never had any big accidents or any complaints and people would re-book with me but I was cutting more by eye like an artist than by technique. I still have my license and think about re-learning everything on my own and filling in those gaps in my education. I think our school focused on passing the state board. Content like this is very helpful!
