Jason, you are right there with George’s creativity. I’ve seen pictures and videos of his work and obviously watch your videos as well. You guys are awesome and very cool to watch. I wonder what it would be like to watch Luke Towan do a landscape scene after one of your builds such as this. You guys are great!
I bought the stone building couldn’t believe it was still available… really inspired by what you built…. Price was fair but who cares, when ya want something ya just buy it… thanks for doing what you do.. has help me be more patient…
You also use the cheap acrylics from Wal Mart etc. Me too but also artist acrylics which are expensive for certain things. You are inspired by George Sellios as am I. FineScale Mineatures got me started in weathering and details and I built many of the kits.
An amazing build! I especially liked the layers of color on the brick portion and the colored mortar. Well done, looks fantastic! Got lots of new tips after watching this.
Jason, what can I say? Your work just keeps getting better and better! I want you to start working with lighting; that will take your structures to another universe, on top of how great they already are. Your stonework is superb! Can't wait for your next build!!! Thanks for the inspiration!
If I remember correctly it was in '87 or '88 when MR magazine first published his layout. George and his F&SM was a huge influence on my layout. His masterpiece is what I judge every other model railroad by and not many have lived up to his level of detail and imagination. The F&SM is a museum quality work of art. I would love to see it one day in person.
I have a few FSM kits in the pile so it was good to see a tutorial about using the metal walls. I'm a huge admirer of George Sellios and his layout. Thanks for the tutorial.
Jason, Your work is so incredible! I would like to see you do an old abandoned barn that is leaning with the roof partially caved in. I used to see these a lot in the 70’s. Keep up the great work!
I would really like to see you use raw umber instead of black. Black only usually appears in nature when there is a fire in which case black would be appropriate like where a train goes in a tunnel and leaves exhaust on the top. It may not seem like much but it keeps from having that transmission shop bathroom wall look. Your work is amazing and you seem to enjoy what your doing, that shows in the finish product.
I agree with you. I usually avoid pure black and pure white. Those two colors look out of scale if you dont alter them some how. Thanks for watching Robby! Do you still build models?
Hi Jason. Another outstanding video - thank you! The F&SM IS an unbelievable work of art. Unfortunately I have not had the pleasure of seeing it in person but have been a huge admirer via the published articles and videos about Frank's work. Please keep the videos coming... -Rick
Another awesome build Jason. Your techniques are outstanding and I especially enjoy that you use craft paints. And you're right, the F&SM is a great layout to see in person.
AWESOMENESS as always when you build anything! 👍 Wonderfully detailed to the max including all the smallest details. Love it! Always anticipating the next of your videos.
Like Seth Puffer said: Outstanding Work! I am using up the last of my solvent based Floquil paint and will definitely try some of the craft paints over a coat of 'Rattle Can' paint.
you've done a fantastic job! I love george selios's work too. I hadn't done that recent foscale kit of the month yet. I may follow your example and make it a 2 story. keep up the great work !
I always learn so much from your videos Jason! All the small details you add make a world of difference. This video only goes for 54 minutes but I imagine you must have spent many many hours finishing this model... Keep up the fantastic work 😉 p.s. how you manage to build a model nearly every week with this much outstanding detail amazes me!
Wow Luke Towan looks to Jason Jensen to learn new things, that's amazing because I think of him as not needing to learn from anyone as good of a modeler as he is. Wow. Both of you guys are like modeling gods to me. Thanks to both of you for what you do to help the little guys learn.
@@williambryant5946 , thanks for the compliment... I certainly learn a lot from watching UA-cam videos. I generally build scenes focused around the natural environment so when it comes to structures I tend to struggle a little! I'm actually working on one at the moment that will have the interior illuminated and detailed as well 😃
Thank you so much Luke, I really appreciate it!!! Model is such a passion for me. I'm a big fan of your work. I really enjoy your videos. I've gotten pretty fast at building because of the amount I've built. Now I just trust my techniques and instincts and just build. I also use to spend a lot of time staring at my model after each step I completed. That equals a lot of wasted time. Now I just look at it when it's done. Thank you so much for watching my videos, I really appreciate it! And again, I love your work!!!!
I've been meticulously watching both of your content, abosrbing as much information as i can. I plan on making a series of dio's, employing many of both of your many tips and techniques. Laser cut wood kits, static grass and water effects had me sold. Always enjoy seeing the new projects and tutorials.
Amazing Jason! You inspire me to push my modeling further. This build is definitely your best so far. Thank you for sharing your creativity with us. Ron
Wow!! Incredibly realistic buildings Jason. Once again, almost every part of the structure is built from different material@ stone, brick, wood etc and that variation really seems to work. It's also becoming a bit of a "trademark" of your builds.👍👌😁 I've never seen, or heard of, whitemetal walls. The certainly look the part and will make very stable structures I'm sure. Are they as expensive as they look? Another thing I noticed: is that tyres sunk into the front of the loading dock? I've never seen that before either, whether on a model or a real building. The pigeons are a nice touch too.😁
Hi Jason. Excellent video as always, and your craftsmanship is again first rate!! The stone building from Railroadkits.com doesn't show on their web site. Is it out of production and/or sold out?
Jason living in the next city to George's Franklin layout I have seen it many times. Let me assure you that you are the closet I have seen to George's talent. Thank you! Question...I assume you built that staircase and landing in place rather than separate and later glued on. Thanks again!
When you painted the doors and windows for the stone building, what was the first colour you painted them with? I really like that first colour.... thanks.... great job.....
Thank you so much!!! I mixed it and I believe I show the two bottles. I think its Light Avocado and Sea Breeze. Double check the video. Thanks for watching!!!
I have always been worried about gluing my structures down to something, I guess because of the hours spent painting and weathering. Have you ever taken a structure up after using the liquid nails?
No, I haven't. Liquid Nails is really strong. Of you dont want to glue them permanently I recommend white Elmer's glue. You can add water to the dried glue to possibly soften it. Just a suggestion.
Absolutely amazing work as always, Jason! I can only imagine what a visit to the FSM must be like and what kind of inspiration that would give any modeller, let alone someone as accomplished as you!! As a side note - I would like to ask what size scale lumber (strip wood) did you use for the loading dock? If various sizes, possibly share a quick pencil drawing, if you would?
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!!! I buy all of my wood from Northeastern Scale Lumber and if you go to there website, they have a section for HO scale wood. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!!!
@@JasonJensenTrains Hi Jason, yes I have been to their website. I was referring to the deck planks and the struts underneath - seems like the same size. Did you use scale 2"x10", or which size? I do not have the dimensions of the actual lumber they typically used for this, in order to calculate the HO equivalent, but yours looks very realistic in size.
@@JasonJensenTrains Sorry for all the questions, but the supply of scale lumber here in South Africa is VERY limited, so I need to see if I can get what it is that I need. I also wanted to ask - what is the typical size of the scale lumber that you use on your cardboard "lean-to" structures - the strips that you put on the outside of the "tarpaper"?
I have a question for you and people who use superglue alot as their main glue. I've heard that over time the superglue will come loose. Have you ever had this problem. I've been uneasy about using it as much now after hearing that. What's your opinion? Thanks for any information or opinions anyone provides.
I have heard the same. I have not had a problem yet but I'm going to try using a two part epoxy. A lot of people have recommended it over superglue. Thanks for watching!!!
Love your work, all of your videos have been an invaluable class for me. My skills have improved tremendously. I can't Thank You enough. The only negative is you showing the paint colors, and other products used up close to the camera multiple times. It takes away from the video. Just telling us the colors and products is more than enough. Again I Love your work, and mean no disrespect
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!!! I love hearing that I have helped you. That makes it all worth it for me. Thanks for watching!... Lots more videos to come!
That would be so much fun!!! Right now in life I have a hard enough time just finding time to model, LOL. I'm sure some day when I retire I will start to do more scratch building. Thank you so much for watching and happy modeling!!!
