Some throws end up with the thrower smashing their head to the ground, and IMHO, in a worse situation than the thrown contendant. This might serve for a jury, but is it really practical or could it even be dangerous in real life?
@@judospirit For example... 2:59 Safe landing, and keeps good control after the fall. VS: 0:50 Looks like she gets her head smashed against the floor, not only her shoulder, and with momentum. Painful if there's no tatami! Plus the contendant rolls smoothly, staying in a good position to continue vs. the thrower, who's still rolling to recover balance.
@@markelbasabelopez5772 Very interesting observation! I see a lot of dangerous throws with this exact same problem in uchi-mata. A lot of throwers put their heads on tatami directly, but I didn't realize in these o-soto-gari. Thanks for your comment! Don't forget to subscribe in our channel :)
@@markelbasabelopez5772 Hey Markel. Judoka add certain subtleties to their techniques to maximize results for the sport. In the sport, it is ideal to roll both the opponents shoulders to the floor during the throw. This causes "players" to modify techniques in a peculiar way and yes it is often detrimental to combat technique outside of sport Judo. I have done Judo for 23 years but have never pursued sport judo as an end in itself and thus have developed many ways to maintain safety and control. BTW it is illegal in sport Judo to dive head first into a throw for the very reason you mentioned. You are taught to rotate as you dive, this is the proper, safe and legal way to throw. As I mentioned before the throwers goal is to throw the opponents back to the floor, and the attacker dedicates themselves to this, sometimes to their detriment. I would say any experienced and practical Judoka has the control to finish in a safe manner and remain in control after the throw when olympic style Ippon is not necessarily the means to an end. Sadly I do find this too often to not be the case as Judo in most places has devolved to the olympic style who has a never ending list of rules ever changing.

Did you come home mate?
Uki Goshi was the first one for me and Osoto Gari the second. Practiced a few days when I was 10 (I'm almost 30 now) and I still know them.
Maybe one of the firts techniques learned in judo , and one of the most efficients
🙇🏽♂️🥋
Can never go wrong with the basics 🤷🏽♂️ That goes for every sport
Well applied basics all the way! 🙇🏽♂️🥋
First technique will be osoto-otoshi not osoto gari
Or at least for children that is
It looks like it takes less skill to pull off than other techniques.
Hifumi Abe’s execution was absolutely clean, being in control all the time with a finishing standing in both feet. The Nr 1 in my opinion.
Thanks for your comment!
Only a minute in and I’m left breathless at Hifume Abe’s skill.
Amazing, right!?
