- Living and Dying in the Philippines/Expat Diagnosed 1-3 Years to Live@paulinthephilippinesolddog9234 I revisit with Monty, as he describes life after suffering heart attacks and multiple strokes
Crew Family Philippines
/ @crewfamilyphilippines
My mom was diagnosed with cancer at 87 the doctors told us we must tell her she's only got a few months to live of course we told them no the old gal ended up living to 97 years old and died in her sleep. My parents are my heroes
WOW!!! Cool story! Thanks for sharing. 👍
@@localtime824 yeah just goes to show that your mind does control a lot
@@markthomson170 Yes so true Mark 👍🙂
Drs talk some shit
Thanks for sharing. I believe in power of prayers an positive thinking.
My grandpa had a stroke and a heart attack at 62 and hes still alive and kicking in his mid 80s. You can do it!
This is a perfect example of how important it is to have your ducks in a row regardless of age. That being said, I'm praying for your well-being, Monty. 🙏
Absolutely Major Carlton
@@thomasodetinape4180 just be careful though. If she is with you only for your money and nothing else she maybe more inclined to 'finish you off' if there is a pay day waiting.
@@thomasodetinape4180 then that is absolutely fine of course and expected. I was referring to many guys I see here who are the opposite of you.
Starting a family at 58 was more like putting yourself into a shooting gallery.
@Ron Intilia I have no doubt that he would gladly take PayPal, G cash, or the like Ron. You should get right on that without delay! Your generosity will go a long way in his recovery.
be strong, your in my prayers, i'm 71 and thankful for every day, we never know when !!!!
Hi Paul , Monty won't be Medicare eligible until he is 65 i believe. Why doesn't he apply for SSDI(social security disability insurance- which we all paid into) which with his disabilities and diagnosis should be approved. If approved he will get the Social Security rate the same as if he waited to draw it at 67 instead of taking it at 62 and getting a much lower amount of Social Security and he will be eligible for Medicaire at that point also.
Unless it changed when I was approved for disability in 2018 I had to wait 2 years to get Medicare.
I had to wait 18 months After being declared disabled by Social Security to receive Medicare. 2014
@@wolfe5047 absolutely true.
@@wolfe5047 heck it took me 2 years to get the initial disability determination
To get SSDI I think you can't ever have been married.
Such a sad story, I really feel for you Monty. I also understand your decision, one good year in the Philippines with your wife and kid is worth more than five miserable years alone in the U.S. Best of luck to you
I'm so sorry to hear that. I was hoping that I was preaching to the choir when I wrote my initial comment, and that he was already either on it or looking into disability.. I have since checked out his channel and saw more videos that tell of his health issues, as well. He's a slam dunk to be awarded Social Security disabilty, which would literally be life changing and, most possibly, life saving for him.. He'd get more monthly income than early Social Security will pay him (and sooner than next September), plus he'd qualify for Medicare MUCH sooner than having to wait 'til he's 65. This is a no-brainer, actually. I hate to say this, but if this is actually the case that he won't at least look into his options, then he's not looking out for his family, especially when none of this would cost him a dime. In fact, he'd also get an initial and substantial lump sum payment up front, as well as full retirement pay... way before September.
I hope the instalment plan works out for Monty. Faced with a difficult decision Monty has made the right decision for him.
It's sad to think he's become so disillusioned with the country of his birth but understandable in the circumstances.
It's not the politicians or the mega rich that make a country great it's ordinary people who get out of bed every day go do a job that serves others feeds their own family and pays taxes.
Monty..enjoy whatever time you have in the place you found happiness with a wife and daughter who love you.
He has a great attitude about the situation. And he made the right choice coming back to his happy place.
Two very cool dudes. God bless you both.
Paul Monty after heart attack and strokes should qualify for 100% diaability. I had my shoulder and knee replaced and diddn't have to pay a penny. Was operated at top notch Hospital in CA.
This is a perfect example of how important it is to get healthy, stay healthy, eat healthy and be healthy. As Paul mentioned, the brain will rewire. Follow Paul's lead. FAST. FAST. FAST. Eat right. FAST. FAST. FAST. Eat right. Repeat. Continue on living. Monty is where he needs to be. With happy people. With his loving family. Good on ya Monty to see where your happiness is. Stress is a killer.
Has Monty tried a Provincial hospital, or any other major government hospital where the charges are far lower?
My feeling is that once he reaches 62 he'd be wiser returning to the USA just for the heart valve op and then return here after the recuperation period.
@@nigelclements8889 he'd be wise to do that yes although he appears to have very small money. It's not good situation.
Yeah and dont smoke!!
May the Lord bless and heal this good man🙏
No one knows when, even the Dr told him to live 1-3 yrs. Only God knows our limited time on this temporary life. The most important is you have accepted Christ in your life as Lord and Saviour. Only what we have done for Christ will last! And all of us what we have done here on earth either good or bad we will give account to God.
May the Lord continue to protect you🙏
And may God bless a good friend like you Sir Paul🙏
As I get older and start to believe if it's not your time you're not going to die. Every day young and healthy ppl die from all kinds of reasons. Great to see Monty getting stronger. Keep the faith.
Two nice, articulate guys being good friends to one another. What's not to like.
may of 2018 looking out my tenth floor window at the city of manila ,first time there ,and a felling came over me of freedom ,i never had before, i work all my life ,my girlfriend will need to help me through this freedom, boy did she ever . 8 short days and back on airpland to ohio work stress ,and more stress .had a heart attack at 71 years of age. to much work stress, stress and more stress ,i need that felling again of freedom i be,coming to manila again . take care monty, and paul to .
Monty there are good hospitals here in Manila. My wife suffered a heart attack in 2014 and we went to the Philippine Heart Center and they fixed her up and she is still kicking my Azz. If you don't have philhealth get it. It will cover at a minimum of 20-30% of the operation. The best of luck to you and I think your are right about coming back.
Well since i hit 56 this year and started to watch more of these expat who have moved to Philippines. I have considered this very strongly. Because of the people and the cost of living also the Filipino people are some of the nicest people very family oriented and even though they may not have a lot they are some of the most generous people you would ever want to meet.
get ssdi 1500 usd a month move too ph in march 1
Move to the Philippines soon!
😊great job Paul you are very caring hope to meet you some day Tony C. Savannah, Ga
Paul. Such a heart felt story for Monty.. I subscribed immediately, such a small gesture all of your subscribers should support. I know one thing for certain, the love and support from his wife and precious little girl and God's grace will uplift Monty to new heights. God bless you Paul for being a devoted friend.
I like your interview style where you sit side by side with Monty as opposed to just shooting the questions from behind the camera.
👍
You add another dimension when your viewers see you facial expressions and body language as you talk. One could see the sincerity, warmth and feelings as you move from topic to topic.
It's really nice to see 2 old friends helping each other out.
Thanks Paul, I will support Monty. Hopefully we can be a good friend to his family. Praying always. ❤
Absolutely

Paul, you are so kind to vlog your friends and acquaintances and their happy or sad situations in life. Monty's illnesses appears to be a disability, can no longer function in the working world. He may be eligible for social security disability which payment is higher than retirement, that is if he had contributed to social security in the last 5 years, he can file at the nearest US Embassy or Consulate in Philippines, the US embassy provides doctors at government expense to evaluate him. If he is lucky to be alive till age 65, at which time Medicare kicks in, he can waive Medicare because he does not have any plans to go back to the US, in which case his Medicare premium reverts to his regular monthly SS check, more income to him. If his wife is retirable or not, she can collect immediately from his SS due to the minor child. My prayers for Monty and his family. Paul, keep up the good work. God bless.
if a retiree fathered a child, the child is entitled ss benefit provided dna confirms child was his.
@@concepciondental7953 1) There is no DNA test required in the States if a married couple has a child. SSA assumes the child is yours. And it also doesn't matter if it's a stepchild - as long as you're married. 2) In order to receive supplemental income to your SSA payment for a dependent child (until they're 18), the child has to have a social security number. 3) You are also simultaneously eligible to receive a supplemental payment to your SSA payment for your wife, if she is not working, she is the caregiver to the child and your child is age 16 years or younger. But, again, both the wife and the child must have a social security number.
This is not something I read on Facebook or IG or something my friend Bob told me, I have been through it with the SSA. For two years. Just an FYI.
@@biff9999 ok just giving info on what my brother told me about him fathering a child in RP although the difference in that my bro have a wife back in US and the mother of his child was just a GF.
@@concepciondental7953 Yeah, it's very easy to get those supplemental payments for dependents if all of you are in the States and you're married. A little harder if you're not married and all of you are in the States. Much, much more difficult to get the supplemental payments if you're married and your (birth) child has never been in the States and doesn't have a social security number - you would have to get a U.S. passport for him/her first, which he/she would qualify for since you're a U.S. national. Even more difficult in this same scenario if you're not married. Impossible to get the supplemental amount for the wife or stepchild until they emigrate to the U.S. on a fiancé/spouse visa. I have been through this particular scenario.
@@biff9999 Monty may avail of this for his daughter.
I already see the video of the car you bought Monty, I will buy one like this too, I found it interesting for my needs
That’s awesome
Good advice ....Monty
Stress & depression is common in united states..
And I agree ...at 74 with even 5 grown children i am alone ...and lonely. Hahaha sad
🇵🇭❤🙏🙏🙏
I lived for a number of years without medical insurance. I only had one issue that could have been a costly medical treatment, mohs surgery to remove a benign tumor on my shin. When the billing clerk at the doctor's office quoted me the cost I asked her, "Is that what you bill the insurance companies or the amount they reimburse you?"
She laughed and said that it was the reimbursement amount and she went on to say that if she found a company that paid them less, I would get a refund. A month later I got a $20 credit on my CC.
Prayers for Monty....Enjoy what you Have....
❤🙏🙏🙏
Praying for miracle for him..keep on praying in faith.

monty you sound much like myself im 72 have a great 4yr old son i have similar problems and im heading home to the phills to be with my wife and son for better or worse ide rather die a happy man in the home with my family lets hope we last a little longer
😢🙏🙏🙏 Hapiness is the best medicine....your daughter your wife your best medicine 👍👍👍
Paul I feel so bad for Monty but he is doing the right thing being there with his wife and daughter. I am in Florida and my wife and stepson are on Mindanao and with our corrupt government here it is taking forever to try to get them to this country and a lot of money. I am 75 and my wife is 32. I spent the month of May this year in the Philippines and I love it there although things were a bit strange to me for a while. I am very unhappy here without my wife so I think I'm going to do the same thing just sell everything and come there. I just wish there was a fast and easy way to do that. You have been my inspiration in finding the Philippines and finding my loves in the Philippines. I really hope I can be there by Spring. Now for the unfortunate news. Monte is not eligible for Medicare at age 62. He can start collecting his Social Security at 62 but he cannot get Medicare until he is 65 unfortunately. I am looking very forward to meeting you and Monty when I get to Dumaguete. I'm so glad you decided to stay in the Philippines. Good luck to both of you
Keep on fighting and prove those doctors wrong!!
Monty 100% made the right decision to sell his business in the USA, sell his vehicles, sell his camper and move to the Philippines so he could be with his young wife and young daughter. In the USA he is invisible@his age, but in the Philippines he is still alive and he has his family, friends, and he is respected and wanted!!
You’re a good man Paul. I’m impressed by the support you’re showing to your friend Monty in terms of talk/vlog therapy, motivation/encouragement, stress relief, recognition of Monty’s role in going into vlogging, being a positive influence to your viewers while very well articulating all these traits. I’m glad you came back to the Philippines from Thailand. Frankly, I’ve not watched any of your vlogs from Thailand. By the way, I subscribed to Monty’s channel after watching Mark’s interview of Monty. I then went to Monty’s channel & saw Erica & Mae vlogging about your Thanksgiving celebration and I saw you in that vlog. I didn’t even realize that it’s been months since I last watched your vlog when you arrived in Thailand describing Mae’s ordeal in the Manila airport.
It’s nice to go back watching your vlogs once again having been a long time subscriber. 👍
im enjoying this channel for some strange reason and when i think more deeply as to why its as you said, the guy is giving a voice to people in need, he cant give the ultimate solution, but at least he can give people a voice.
Done and Done. Looking forward to Monti's stories.
Monty your looking great , glad your doing better than before…I am gonna keep you in my prayers and thoughts..
It is such a story that I hold fast to the Danish healthcare system and the Danish welfare state. It will be free for me and get the procedures mentioned. Therefore, it is my plan to only live in the Philippines during the winter months.
I hope the best for him. Food also has something to say. Vegetables, fish (fatty fish like mackerel) and lean meat will be good. And yes; a positive life.
The best of both worlds.
PRAYERS SENT! GOD BLESS!
Monty your wife and daughter should be plenty of reason to give you longer life and to give you a positive frame of mind , in 10 months get yourself back to the states and fix your heart so that it will then give you 10 to 15 years longer with them maybe even longer than that ,you can do that for them right knuckle down Monty and do the right thing for all of you and not just for yourself do it man God Bless
Stay well Monty 🙏🏽
Stress and depression no good at our age..I have had heartache and stroke..best to live with family in philipines..manila..
prayers for monty to get better.
Watching some of the videos on Monty's channel, I can see how he would much prefer to be with his daughter and wife. They sure add a lot of positivity to his life. It's a blessing to have this little corner where he can be with people he loves and who love him back.
Wish you the best Monty!
Seniors are respected in the Philippines as this is the culture. Lucky you decided to stay for good. Your family will be look after you. Hope you get better.
I pray for healing and blessings for Monty
I hope Monty gets the help that he desperately needs. Paul you handled this situation very well. I think your friend Bud Brown would have some good insight about this plight that Monty has.
Done good luck Monty look forward to your new channel Take care God Bless
Unless I’m missing something, Medicare kicks in at 65 in the US. I’m approaching 63 in a few months. Hoping Monte can knock out that surgery in the Philippines and get well soon.
you are correct, i was wrong
He could apply for Medicare if his disability is approved.
@@simplyfilipino6408 … that’s called Medicaid. Slightly different program, but you’re right. He should apply with his disabilities.
@@simplyfilipino6408 My question is why not apply for the health insurance on the ACA? To get a low premium he would need to show low income. But even if his income were decent ($40,000 or more) with the subsidy the monthly premium may be low enough.
Florida was one of the states that didn't expand Medicaid under the ACA else he would have qualified for Medicaid even with a relatively high income for Medicaid.
@@ariefraiser140 We don’t know the whole story, what type of brain bleed, what type of valves leak, etc. However, he has several options: they could have treated him without paying first. They could have billed him and pay minimum amount on a monthly basis.
I know as a Nurse i can tell you only God knows our time when we will be leaving this earth.
Looking at you today compared to right before you left for America I can see 100 percent improvement.
Keep active Monty your body will compensate over time.

Monty and Paul, thanks for the update. This was a sobering video. (I subbed to the Mrs' channel)
You guys are spot on when it comes to being positive in life, it can add years to your life. Another thing I truly believe in is laughter, my uncle was on his death bed and the hospital chaplain came in to say his prayer when my uncle opened his eyes and told the chaplain to save his message for someone that is dying. My uncle started laughing and told everyone in the room that he can't die because all his girlfriends would miss him. He lived another five years.
Great video keep going monty
monty great man brave man
Wow Paul, $50 A Year for Auto Insurance, Like you Said Is Nothing .
That Actually is What I Paid per year for my Motorcycle Back in 1977. Auto Insurance aback then Was Maybe $90.00 to $100 Per Year( For a Driver with No Accidents or Citations).
Wishing him A Long Happy Life in the Philippines. He Could Probably Pick up Health Insurance in the Philippines that Could Pay most of This Surgical Cost. He Should Investigate it.
Stay strong Monty. Stay put!
Cheers to Paul
You can begin to collect Social Security at 62. But you must be 65 for Medicare. I like his positivity. Best wishes - and prayers!
Good for you Monty . If you’re happy and have less stress in the Philippines, more power to you . Stress will mess with your organs especially the liver which is the Captain of the ship ... your body .

Yes, agree with Monty, stress is the worst thing; best to stay in the Philippines where you are happy and less stress on your body.
Congrats, last time we saw Monty I didn't think he would survive the flight. Now he's back already and looking much better with a new fight in him. Nice to see this positive update. Take care.
I think you've soon helped half of Dumaguete start a UA-cam channel hehe. Sad story for Monty, but I think he will feel so much happier in the Philippines with his daughter and wife. Hopefully it may bring him many more happy years with his family.
