I noticed our honey sales slowed when we were getting low as well. These next few weeks should really start getting busy! Thanks for sharing!

Plz do some videos on setting up the cell builder and grafting.
I plan to start grafting this year and I feel we can all learn from each other success and failures.
Love the videos keep up the great work! And I wish you the best I’m rooting for your success.

Medium 8 framer here, that is all I run usually around 20 colonies or so. Bad back and this is as light as it gets and still productive in my opinion.

Nathan I have been in the retail hardware business for the past 50 years. You are correct when you are selling from full displays. People will always buy more from a full table. The same can be said about the entire store. When the store is full of merchandise the buying public will always get a good feeling about shopping rather than a store which is half empty. 👍👍

I caught part of the live Nathan, everything I saw was great.👍 I am real interested in this new UBO spray test, exciting times in beekeeping.😁
I really like the medium as the starting nuc idea. I am wanting to run a deep/medium set up. Start them in the medium, when that's full drop the deep on them letting go to town for the rest of the season making stores for Winter. I'll need to get me some medium feeders, I really like the Mother Lode brand feeders nice and sturdy.
Have a great day Nathan, Ty for another great video.

Interesting comment about selling honey. I use a different approach, no matter how much I have.
When customers ask I tell them that " I have plenty of honey but it's going fast" I think that let's them draw their own conclusions.
    Good video, thanks for sharing.

Might be able to charge a fee and get some people local to come dip their boxes while you have the wax hot.
Help you recoup the cost of the tank and wax. If I had someone local I would gladly pay $5-6 a box

I’ve already got a couple guys lined up. And I may start assembling, waxing, and reselling equipment to local bee clubs.

  • @woodlandharvesthoneycompanyllc

Documentation on the Harbo assay will be great. The 2 questions I have right now is: How does one determine the correct age of pupa to assay and what if you can find any of the correct ag And how often should you do the assay? I did assays last summer and wasn't sure of the results(didn't trust that I did them correctly). I had 0s and 1s but treated anyway cause of not being sure.
Also on the thing on people not ordering as much honey,I have my honey in a local grocery store that was selling great. The store moved the location of my honey and sells really fell off. ???

Do you think it’s better to run out of honey or buy some from another bee keeper as to not have your customers go possibly go elsewhere? I’m torn because some people will buy more if they know it’s a limited supply but I’m also not a fan of selling someone else’s product vs my own. I’m a very small operation with only about 12 production hives.

    • @DuckRiverHoney

I’ll buy honey from folks I trust, no issues there. If I bring in a varietal or something from out of area I’ll have different labels for local vs not local.

As a sideline beekeeper do you sell your honey for 10 bucks a pound. That would be 15 for a pint. Feel like I've been going in hole with price of sugar and jars and labels getting higher .Been selling for 10 a pint last 10 years. First time I ever ran out of honey this year. Feel bad having to so Im out of honey..8

I’m charging $14 per lb retail and discounting 35% for wholesale.

    • @moosibou
      @moosibou Рік тому

I'm in MN. My retail prices start at $10/lb and I break that about 5% every time it doubles. $15/pint, $28/quart, $54/half gallon, etc, up to $5.25/lb/5 gallon bucket, by weight that's in the bucket. I haven't sold wholesale bottles, but I appreciate Nathan's indication of 35% discount. I find my prices are higher than most hobbyist beekeepers. I also don't actively seek sales. It's all pretty much word of mouth and a FB ad or two.
