Chrissy noted in her autobiography that ''Divinyls were very much an acquired taste'' appealing to those who could appreciate something a bit different. She cringed at the idea of being compared to anyone. She created her own unique category. When manager Vince Lovegrove wanted to cut especially deep after a less than stellar performance, he would tell the band they sounded like a cabaret act. No cabaret act here. This performance was absolutely magical and beautifully mixed and captured by a youthful but very skilled technical team for Rock n Roll Tonite and I feel a genuine debt of gratitude. jtk🍁Canada
I was lucky enough to see the The Divinyls in concert. She had a great voice, and was one of the best front woman in rock. R.I.P. Chrissy, you will be missed.
Saw them in Virginia Beach in 1983 and near the end of their set she poured water all over herself. Then when the Psychedelic Furs ran unto the stage to do their set, their guitarist slipped on the water and fell on his ass (he quickly recovered).
@ Warren552011.......Oh, I'm with you now, wondered where I went wrong regards the rock music......yes, you described it well. While Chrissy shocked, amused and delighted us, the band had no need for theatrics. I think that's what I love so much about "Elsie".....Mark's haunting, understated guitar work. While Chrissy's performance was always a treat, I find myself completely lost in Mark's beautiful guitar, so appropriate, so vital, so perfect. Love to watch it in the dark, put youtube onto the large TV screen (Smart TV's are indeed smart) and I'm there. Who'd have thought we'd have UA-cam to watch all this on one day? Except of course for us "Spring Chickens" cheeky bugger!! No, concert days are far behind me but the memories are fun. Take care, Linda.
was at this exact show, it was filmed at "After the gold rush"" in Tempe AZ , 1983-1984 ? was a Los Angles cast for a radio station in LA. there first US tour.
Hi Warren, totally agree. I confess to being somewhat bemused at the comparison but having read the commenter's remarks on another site, wasn't really surprised. The beauty of Chrissy and Divinyls was the fact that they didn't conform to fashion, trends etc., at least that's how I saw it. I always adored Chrissy's jacket with the life-like dead rat hanging off it, so perfect!
#19 on the APRA TOP 30 Australian songs in the last 75 years at the time it was awarded. I love that she had to line herself up for her pogo to the mike.
This was my first and lost vinyl record, what I missed. The best what I herd. Now I would try to buy a cd of it so I had it back. Supergroup for me Steve piersen
Chrissie absolutely imperious as always for such a wild voice she's got a lot of control - and this song never seems to lose any of it's magic, it is pop heaven.
The video problems some folks have had are due to a UA-cam bug. I've re-uploaded the video and included a link for it in the 'About/Show More' description for this video.
I'll second that. Actually I can't think of anyone with a similar voice, it's that singular. Not powerful, but sings right to her limits. I love it too.
I remember her well, BRILLIANT, DANGEROUS and AHEAD OF HER TIME. I love that she had to line herself up for her pogo to the mike. So talented..Such a sad loss. I love that she had to line herself up for her pogo to the mike. So talented..Such a sad loss.
I certainly don't mean any disrespect, but I saw her at the US festival from near the front of the stage. I noticed that she had really bad teeth... I mean, really bad. I always wondered why she didn't do something about it ?
@ Warren552011.....You're quite right of course, Chrissy was a show on her own and she certainly didn't have to try to be cool. Not sure what you meant about it not being the same? Hard rock?.....I'd have classed Divinyls as hard rock, punk even, just better quality and they were always so innovative. Bit like "Taste" back in the '60's, so raw, they were almost primal. Just how I loved it, wonder where we go from here?
always been a big fan mark n chrissy have a chemistry like some of the greats, totally agree with vincejoneslive, nice one. enzo do u mean chrissys ms? u know charlie drayton.husbn will always look after her, anyway awsome act some timeless
Hello Mitch547, I'm chasing permission, from the holders of copyright, to use this concert footage in a Chrissy Amphlett video tribute. I'm a video producer with The AGE (newspaper based in Melbourne, Australia). As part of The AGE Music Victoria Awards (annual local music awards) Chrissy is to inducted into the the hall of fame on Wednesday 21st November. I'm putting together a tribute reel for the event and was hoping to use this performance of the Divinyls. Any assistance you could offer me would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Tim Mummery
@ Dave Rave.........You are joking!! There's zero comparison, Chrissy was a super-talented dynamo!! All Cherie Currie has ever done (apart from that awful "Cherry Bomb") is make a complete abomination (with Greg what'shisface?) of the beautiful Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood number "Some Velvet Morning". (I almost wept at the dreadful screaming). I realise music is a matter of personal taste but to call Cherie Currie great (as a singer) is a gross exaggeration in anyone's language. In my language, she's a shocker!!
@zachmum :Mate, Chrissy was doing thisstuff in the 80s...Saw her at the Bondi lifesaver, the Coogee bay and again when I moved to Canberra. She did have a lot of energy.A bit of a shame there are not the venues around now for the local music.Curious as to how you got interested in early 80s oz rock, however. You wouldnt have been born then ,would you?(Just going from your choice of expletives such as fucktard,I am guessing you are a current teenager .We would have used terms like fuck-head,best,jk
Watching this makes you realise how great Cherie Currie from the Runaways was as a singer, and that no one comes anywhere near her for being pure rock n roll!
Brought up with respect women, open the car door for them and all that stuff, but if there was any one chick I wanted to punch in the face, its her ..but she would probably love it and ask for more
Some musicians have incredible stage presence. Freddy Mercury, Mick Jagger, and definitely Christina. Forever in my mind with those performances. RIP.
One of the greatest front man woman period.. No one did it like her
I remember her well, BRILLIANT, DANGEROUS and AHEAD OF HER TIME.

Mitch547...you sir are a legend for re-uploading this. This gig was quite possibly the best performance by a local band ever. Pure class

May she live on forever in her music!

The greatest sex symbol rock singer ever. USA eat your heart out. You should have taken them on.
I certainly don't mean any disrespect, but I saw her at the US festival from near the front of the stage. I noticed that she had really bad teeth... I mean, really bad. I always wondered why she didn't do something about it ?

I am reading her biography and she and the Divinyls should have been huge. Such a waste of talent to drugs and alcohol.
She was still good
Good video! I'm liked and share 401 times :D
